This document proposes the complete Event Process, and the
proposed topics of the seminar & workshop that is to be
conducted in your college.

“LinuxFest-2010”
“Understand the freedom of Open Source Software world,
and become a day to day Linux user/programmer.”

There are two levels of the event:

1. Beginner Level (1 day seminar + live demonstrations)

 Summary: Introduction, Installation, Configuration, Day to Day


usage, Programming tools, Understanding of the system & its
maintenance, Learning commands, File System and much more fun.

2. Advanced Level (1 day seminar + workshop)

 Summary: Apache Web server, LAMP Framework, Becoming


superuser, Linux security, mounting/unmounting filesystems, tips and
tricks for working with vi/vim, file permissions, system administration
basics, Installing/Uninstalling applications, Printing, Internet Access,
mp3 issues, and much more geeky fun.

We have designed the content of both – beginner and advanced level events very
simple, so that students can grab them easily and start working with Linux.

 More basic commands - grep, whoami, whereis, which, echo, wc
 Basics of Programming in C and C++ using gcc.
 How to do programming easily in Java using Eclipse & Netbeans on Linux
 Basics of „How to develop web apps using LAMP framework‟

Doubt Clearing Session: Complete session from start till end will be an interactive
one, where students can raise doubts and ask multiple questions from the speaker.
At the end of the event, students can also discuss their problems, interest and
doubts in Linux with the speaker.

o How to do programming easily in PHP, Bash, C, C++ & Java
 Learn VI and VIM editor tricks & tips
 Using Linux to access the Internet
 Getting Linux to play sound, mp3
 Learn the differences in the available Linux distributions
 Learn Operating System concepts, like processes, multithreading, paging,
etc
 Explore the career options in Linux & Open Source world
