His fan call him Cuga. In 1997, when he was just 20 years old, Gustavo
Kuerten took the tennis world by surprise and won the french Open. He
went from being number 66 in the rankings to number 2. Because the
organizers of the event didnt expect him to win, at firts they didnt pay
attention to his unusual tennis clothes, including his shoes and socks, wich
were the blue and yellow colors of the Brazilian flag. When they realized
that he wasnt losing, they asked him to do something about his clothes.
His response? He put on a White scarf!
Kuerten was born on September 10,1976 in Florianopolis Brazil, Where he
grew up. He is the second of three sons. His younger brother is
handicapped, and his father died of a heart attack when Kuerten wasnt
even nine years old . His mother is a social worker. His older brother, a
tennis instructor, graduated from school with a degree in computer
science, and he takes care of Kuertens business affairs and his webite

ate lunch in the company cafetera. After lunch, he spoke to the people in
his department. At 3:00, he put on his coat and went out for a short walk.
Then he was back on his computer. He did research and wrote reports. At
6:15, he shutted down his computer. He catches the 6:30 train home. What
