ABSTRACT

STUDY OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SOCIO-CULTURAL


BURDEN WITH TIMORESE COMMUNITY FOOD SECURITY IN THE
VILLAGE OF LAKAT REGION AT KUATNANA SUBDISTRICT, THE
SOUTH CENTRAL OF TIMOR REGENCY. Ari Patola, Marselinus Laga

The Household food security is the ability of households to meet the food
requirement of its member from time to time in order to be able to live healthy
and able to perform daily activities. This type of research are analytical survey
research methods with a crosssectional study. The sample in this research is the
household of Timorese tribe with the main livelihood as dry land farmers as well
as having a toddler in as much as 70 heads of families. The research results
showed that the heads of the Timorese tribal families in the village of Lakat got
educated until senior high school. The monthly income still qualifies as low and
the number of family members who are categorized as large (> 4 people). The
main food of the community is in the form of corn which is given as a form of
family. Foodstuffs have valued religion as an offering of thanksgiving to God
Almighty. The traditions of Timorese tribal communities are in the form of
wedding traditions, tradition of sorrow and tradition of betel nut. Generally, the
direct costs of the households is for educational purposes. In addition there is also
direct expenditure of Timorese tribal community that is for custom requirements.
The availability of staple foodstuffs tribal Timor families is below nutritional
adequacy numbers i.e. under 2,200 kcal/hood/day. The burden of social cultural
community tribes of Timor in the village of Lakat is not associated significantly
with food security, especially with food availability of Timorese tribe in the
village of Lakat, Kuatnana Subdistrict. The data were analyzed using simple linear
Regression which shows that the burden of social cultural community is not
associated significantly with food security especially with food availability of
Timorese tribe in the village of Lakat, Kuatnana Subdistrict. Socio-cultural Rules
in the community should be made with the aim of regulating every socio-cultural
activities in order not to become a burden to the society. For the people of the
Timorese tribe are recommended to add variations and the amount of food to
maintain the availability of of food for the households.
