Mr. Amoruso
Religion 9-9

But be very careful to keep the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of the LORD
gave you: to love the LORD your God, to walk in obedience to him, to keep his commands, to
hold fast to him and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul. -Joshua 22:5
Service is not just something to take for granted. Service should be viewed as a privilege
considering it is what God wants you to do for Him and for others. The act of service is not only
obeying God and living out His will; it is allowing yourself to be put second and put others
before you. Over the past months, I have learned the true meaning of service by completing my
service project. It has taught me so much about my faith and about how I want to live a life of
service.
During those past few months, I have completed my twenty hours of service by working
at the Saint Kilian Parish Fish Fry, being an altar server at Mass on Sundays, working the
CWNC open house in the Fall, volunteering at the CWNC gala, and by helping out at The
Woodlands. At the Saint Kilian Parish Fish Fry, I sold 50/50 raffle tickets and bussed tables.
When I volunteered at the CWNC open house in the Fall, I was a greeter to the visitors. I also
volunteered at the CWNC gala recently where I was a runner, helping with many miscellaneous
jobs that needed to be done. Next, I helped out at The Woodlands where I was able to be a part
of empowering and supporting young women with disabilities and special needs. I was part of
their personal Glam Squad and helped them with outfit ideas, makeup, and decorating tips for
their wheelchairs. Lastly, when I was serving as an altar server, I would help the younger servers
by dedicating their jobs to them and also carrying out the responsibilities of being an altar server
myself.
I wanted to serve in these specific ways because I wanted to work with people and my
community. When working with and helping people, I am able to directly see the impact I have
on their lives. I also wanted to serve in these ways because I knew it would strengthen my faith
and my relationship with God. I am becoming a better Catholic and a better disciple of Jesus
whenever I serve others as Jesus did. It was very rewarding and fulfilling to be able to serve
others in my community because I knew I was doing Gods work. It instilled in me a sense of
pride by knowing I was pleasing the Lord. I think the people I served benefited too because it
only takes one person to make a difference and it only takes one person to lead by example. I
hope by completing my service, I was an example to others around me and inspired them to
serve more. Lastly, I think it is so important for Christians to perform acts of service because it
truly makes a difference in the world and shows how much effort we are willing to put into our
relationships with God. By serving, we all are living out Gods will and following His
commandments.
