Midterm Exam/Farewell Multimedia Presentation

A Final Farewell
According to Websters dictionary, a swan song is the last act, final creative work, etc. of a
person. Since you will all be leaving Tourtellotte Memorial High School at the end of the school
year, it seems only fitting that we say our goodbyes by way of a final farewell speech, or swan
song. Each of you will be doing a 6-8 minute speech about your high school career. Your
speech will be accompanied by a PowerPoint presentation. What you include in your presentation
is up to you, but you should consider the following ideas:

Who has influenced you most during your time at TMHS?

Favorites: What have been your favorite books, plays, movies, quotations, poems,
teachers, or coaches that youve encountered during these past four years?
What achievements have you made? What opportunities have you missed?
What would you want to say to your friends?
What do you want your friends to be able to say about you? What type of legacy do you
want to leave behind?
What advice do you have for underclassmen and incoming freshmen?
Who and what has helped you grow up and get you to this point?
What high school moments will you never forget?
What do you think you are going to be doing five or ten years from now?

Things to avoid:

Excessive negativity
Insincerity
Over emotional words or phrases
Flowery language
Redundancy

Specifics:

You will turn in a preparation outline at the start of your speech, however, you will only be
allowed to use notecards when you speak. (5 notecards, 20-word maximum for each card,
no fully written intro./conclusion) Your cards are to be turned in after presenting your
speech. 10-point deduction for each if not turned in.
Be ready to present when your name is called. This means setting up all PPT presentations
before the bell rings. We are on a very strict time schedule and there is no room for
technological issues.
There are no make-ups unless you have an emergency situation. Your final exams will be
delivered in class on Friday, June 9th.
Your final exam grade will be comprised of three parts: your speech, commentary on the
speeches of your classmates, and a written reflection. Even if you are exempt from the
final, you are to turn in the reflection as your exemption pass. This reflection will not
count towards your final grade if you are exempt.
You are responsible for emailing me your PPT presentation no later than midnight on
Thursday, June 8th.
The reflection will be due on Wednesday, June 7th.
