UNIT 4, OUTCOME 1 & 2 Checklist

HAVE I READ THROUGH THE ASSESSMENT CRITERIA?

You need to read through the VCAA assessment criteria well


before you submit your folio, to ensure that you have
completed all required work.

PowerPoint) and use it as a checklist before your submission.
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 1:

Criteria:
Use of selected and evaluated potential directions in the
development and refinement of ar tworks

To receive a Ver y High (9-10):


Comprehensive evidence of the use of potential directions as the
basis for the development of finished artworks. There is ver y
strong evidence of the creative and comprehensive development
and resolution of ideas and subject matter from the potential
directions in the finished artworks. Comprehensive refinement and
application of art elements and principles, materials and
techniques from the potential directions evident in the finished
artworks. Comprehensive evidence of the development and
refinement of potential directions that ver y clearly realise and
communicate the students ideas expressed in the exploration
proposal and the finished artworks.
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 1 EXPLAINED:

Have you selected at least two potential directions to base


your final artworks on?
Have you included visual and written documentation to show
which potential directions they are (in your folio)?
Do your final artworks show a clear relationship to your
potential directions (i.e. are they refinements of potential
directions or are they entirely new ideas)?
Do your potential directions and final artworks clearly relate
to your exploration proposal in terms of subject matter,
elements and principles and materials and techniques?
Have you refined your potential directions to improve them
(i.e. have you made them better, or have you simply
reproduced them)?
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 2:

Criteria:
Application of materials and techniques appropriate to the
selected ar t forms and utilise their inherent characteristics

To receive a Very High (9-10):


Consistent and highly skillful application of materials and
techniques in the development, refinement and presentation of
finished artworks that supports the strong resolution of ideas
and aesthetic qualities. Demonstration of a thorough
understanding of and sensitivity to the inherent characteristics
and application of materials and techniques in selected art
forms throughout the studio process. Highly skillful and
appropriate use of relevant materials, techniques and methods
of presentation demonstrates an insightful understanding of the
selected art forms.
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 2 EXPLAINED:

Have you created your final artworks using a high level of skill
in the execution of materials and techniques?
Have you demonstrated that you understand the
characteristics of your selected materials and techniques by
including material and technique trials/refinements in your
folio?
Have you chosen appropriate materials and techniques to
represent your concept?
Do your finals have a strong aesthetic (are they of a high
quality)?
Have you used materials and techniques that you stated you
would in your exploration proposal and potential direction
write ups?
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 3:

Criteria:
Demonstration and resolution of aesthetic qualities in relation
to the communication and realisation of ideas in finished
ar tworks.

To receive a Very High (9-10):


Highly effective use of aesthetic qualities provides strong
support for the successful communication of ideas in the
finished artworks. Highly skillful and thoughtful application of
art elements and art principles contributes towards the
resolution of aesthetic qualities in the finished artworks. The
aesthetic qualities evident in the finished artworks contribute
towards a highly creative and innovative interpretation of
subject matter.
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 3 EXPLAINED:

Do your final artworks emphasise the elements, principles and


aesthetic qualities that you mentioned in your exploration
proposal?

Have you presented those elements, principles and aesthetic


qualities to a high standard?

Do your chosen elements, principles and aesthetic qualities


effectively represent your concept and subject matter?
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 4:

Criteria:
Demonstration of the cohesive relationship between at least
two finished ar tworks and their methods of presentation.

To receive a Very High (9-10):


Strong cohesive relationships between the finished artworks
illustrating consistency in related concepts. Each artwork
contributes to the development and presentation of highly
cohesive artworks. Finished artworks are very clearly connected
through the highly effective depiction of subject matter, the use
of strong and consistent aesthetic qualities, and the application
of materials and techniques. The finished artworks are highly
sophisticated in their presentation to insightfully communicate
cohesive ideas.
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 4 EXPLAINED:

Do your two artworks clearly relate to your overall concept


visually (i.e. is there a relationship between subject matter,
aesthetic qualities, and materials and techniques?

Can you explain how they do so?

If your artworks were presented in an exhibition space, would


it be clear that they relate to one overall theme?
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 5:

Criteria:
Written documentation that evaluates and reflects on the studio
process.

To receive a Ver y High (9-10):


Presentation of visual and written documentation includes a
comprehensive description and discussion of the subject matter
and focus of the finished artworks. Comprehensive discussion and
evaluation of how the potential directions contributed to the
development and refinement of artworks. Highly ef fective use of
evidence of potential directions in the discussion. Clear and
comprehensive evaluation using appropriate terminology of how
finished artworks were refined and presented and how
relationships between them were established and how materials,
techniques and aesthetic qualities have been applied to
communicate and resolve ideas. Highly reflective discussion and
analysis using appropriate terminology on how ideas have been
communicated and realised in all of the finished artworks.
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 5 EXPLAINED:

Have you written an evaluation statement to go with your two


final artworks and folio?
In your evaluation, have you addressed the focus and subject
matter of artworks, how potential directions contributed to
your final artworks and visuals of the potential directions
used, further refinement that you undertook, effectiveness of
your communication of ideas and how your artworks show this,
materials and techniques that were used and how, the
aesthetic qualities that were incorporated and how the
artworks would be presented in an exhibition space.
Have you read over the evaluation task sheet to ensure that
you have addressed everything?
Does your evaluation include visuals and written information?
GENERAL ADVICE / CHECKLIST

Your final submission needs to include these three things:

1. Your two finished final artworks.


2. Your folio documenting the process of how you created your
two final artworks.
3. Your evaluation as a typed A4 printed document.

Make sure you read your evaluation task sheet to ensure that
you address all areas of Outcome 2.

If you are confused about anything to do with Unit 4, Outcome


1 & 2, speak to Ms. Clark ASAP!
