Based on the YouTube video The future of HR by Dr. Dave Ulrich, the field of HR has
evolution in thinking and it is begun in 1930s and 40s. At the beginning, HR focuses in
Administrative system of the work: -managing processes, terms and conditions and labor
contract. HR begin the shift to HR Practices focus on staffing, training and compensation by
doing session planning and organizational design in effective way. In last 15 years, the HR
experts who are in design and HR strategy field create the HR Strategy. The next step in HR is
to go Outside of the company by not only consider strategy as a mirror but as a window to do
our job better. Outside refers to customers, investors, communities and government agencies,
where HR becomes a lever for those external factors. This is the direction and focus we see in
HR from outside and in that connected all those 4 factors.

There are 10 criteria to building the HR. The first criteria are Value that the HR add to shape and
create value for other people. The second criteria are Context that includes social, technology,
demography, environmental, political and economic. The third criteria are Stakeholder which
compromise inside (employee) and outside (investor, community and customer). The next is
Individual which is right talent is the key factors. And the right organization where how the
right talent work together as a team in terms of culture, capability, manage innovation, service,
collaboration and efficiency. The right leadership creating the right organization that has great
capabilities and culture that helps in moving forward. According to Dave, right HR department
consist centralized, decentralized and combination where if the business is centralized then HR
has to be centralized and vice versa, in which if it brings inside, knowledge and action to the
talent acquisition by bringing great HR value. Next is Hr practices is align, integrated and
innovated for the people and organization. Company needs to invest in HR people by providing
training and train them to be competent and well skilled staff. Finally, the company needs to do
the measurement and matrix to analysis the performance of the HR outside in.
