Blightisdefinedbyincidentsofunsightlinessandpublichazardthatmaybedetrimentalto
thehealthandwellbeingofnear-westCleveland,Ohioresidents.TheSurveyoffersa
samplingofuniqueandcommonincidentsofpole-wire-treeinvolvement.Theepicenterof
ablightincidentmayradiatefromastreetaddress,anareaoftrafficandpedestrian
intersection,orapublicright-of-wayroadwaycorridor.Incidentreportsareathumbnail
sketchofsituationalblightfactorsdegradinghumanease,comfort,andsafety.

Howisblightmeasured?

Blightincidentsareassessedfromahumansensinglevelasameasurableperspective.For
example,seeingachaotictangleofdanglingloosewiresmaybereceivedbypedestriansas
asignalofthreat.Adeformed,prunedtreemaysendasignalofthreattopedestrianswho
grewupknowingfullyformedtrees,orcreateanindelibleanderroneousimpressionof
whatatreeistoyouth.

Whattechnologyisusedandhowisthemapupdated?

TheBlightSurveyprojectisbuiltusingafreelevelofGooglesGSuite(formerlyGoogle
Apps)anall-in-onesolutionwithpowerfultoolslikeGmail,Docs,Drive,andCalendar.All
dataisadministered,searchable,andshareablefromtheDrivedashboard.PhaseTwoand
ThreeoftheBlightSurveyProjectsupportresidentreportsandmediaupdatestothemap.

Whatcapacitydoesthemapprovidetoresidentsandvisitors?

Thistoolenablesanyresidentorvisitortolocateandreportwood,metal,wireand
extraneousattachmentsassociatedwithpublicelectricutilitythatcauseblightintheform
ofvisualobfuscation,publicsafetyhazard,orurbanforestdesecration.
