SYNOPSIS OF THE COURSE:

On completion of this module, you should be able to do the following

a. Understand the use of information systems in the emerging networked organizations and
knowledge-based economy.

b. Enhancing managerial decision making with different types of information systems

c. Building information systems and management of change.

d. Developing strategic value and organizational transformation of new Information and

Communication Technologies (ICT).

OBJECTIVES

Build a basic understanding of the value and uses of information systems for business operation,
management decision-making, and strategic advantage. It will provide students with the understanding
of the ways in which they can utilize ICT as managers. It concentrates on providing the tools needed for
understanding of the information systems concepts and terms, which is important to managers. This
course is designed for business students who are first introduced to information systems and their

management, who are expected to be managerial and users of information systems, as well as
development of the emerging knowledge-based and innovation economy of Malaysia. All the basic
topics are listed below, which can be done with both the traditional lecturer and the problem-based
learning approach.
