1-What was/were the learning objectives/outcomes of the lesson? (Add state objectives if
known, for example, TEKS 111.4. Grade 2.b.)

Properties of exponents. There were no TEKS and learning objective posted.

2-How did the teacher begin and end the lesson?

She started with a warm up which has 2 questions and works, she asked for her students to find
mistakes on that in 2 min.

3-What did the teacher use for teaching materials or instructional aids/equipment?

She used only projector to show some questions and some students answeres questions on the
board.

4-Which instructional methods and strategies did the teacher use? ( lecture, inquiry,
discovery learning, discussions, games or simulations, demonstrations, cooperative learning,
integration of technology, socrative questioning, etc)

She used discovery learning because she discusses with students one by one. Also some students
answered questions in front of others and taught them it is a kind of peer teaching. Socrative
questioning and cooperative learning are also partially used.

5-How did the teacher assess learning? (informal, formal, formative, summative, oral, open-
ended, quiz, feedback etc) See Chapter 8 for more information on assessment methods
First she gave them a warm up and discusses on it. For formative assessment she gave them
some questions and students worked on that. She informally checked some students works.

6- What can you say about the teachers philosophy/beliefs and style?
(Traditional/progressive, behaviorist, student-centered vs. teacher centered, authoritative etc)

Even though the teacher is very active it is type of student-centered learning because she
managed students and involved them in teaching process. For instance some students explained
the questions on board and she opened a discussion among students on their answers.

7-How does the teacher manage classroom? Can you identify classroom management
techniques used?

She did not use any specific technique for classroom management. She managed them well and
students looked very motivated and focused.

8-Observe in the classroom setting and determine types of behavior students play when off-
task. What do they do when they are not paying attention? How does the teacher re-direct
them or get them back on task?

Students were motivated, they were not off task.

9-How does the teacher communicate with students (verbal, vocal, meta-verbal or non-verbal
communication such as facial, body language, use of space, motion and time?)

She communicated verbally and she visited their spot as well in order to see their progress and to
communicate face to face

10-Who were the students in the class? What did you notice about them? (Background,
diversity, attitude, motivation, interaction, participation, etc)

They were eager to learn. Motivated and focused in class.

11-What did you see that is effective in engaging students? What do you see that is
ineffective in keeping students engaged?

Having students to explain questions on the board and opening a discussion among students are
very effective.
She did not use any hands on activity or did not address to visual learners.
12-What are the two instructional strategies you observed and would like to apply in your
classroom?

Warm up strategy was very unique to me. Instead of asking a questions she asked for students to
find mistakes and misconceptions on given 2 works

Instead of explaining all questions and answers on the board, students answers and explained
some questions on the board

13-What are two important classroom management strategies that you observed and would
like to apply in your classroom?

She always kept them busy with works.

Discussion session went well so that student used this period for their talking needs.
