FINDING THE RIGHT BALANCE FOR

CONSUMER HEALTH PRODUCTS

10-11 OCTOBER 2017

ASSOCIATION OF THE EUROPEAN
SELF-MEDICATION INDUSTRY
Brussels, Belgium
OBJECTIVES OF THE CONFERENCE

Self-care is nowadays recognised as a key element of healthcare. This is re-

flected in numerous policy documents and backed by studies demonstrating
the economic and social value of self-care. However, there are still uncertain-
ties when it comes to the most appropriate balance between the three legal
categories of self-care products: non-prescription medicines, food supple-
ments and self-care medical devices.

The AESGP conference near the premises of the European Parliament will pro-
vide an update on the regulatory challenges for consumer health products
with a focus on relevant developments around substance-based medical de-
vices, food products and (traditional) herbal medicines. Particular attention
will be paid to the implementation of the new medical device legislation and
the ongoing discussion on botanical claims.

The event will start on Tuesday, 10 October 2017 at 18.30 with a reception in
the European Parliament hosted by Adina-Ioana Vlean, Chair of the Com-
mittee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety of the European
Parliament. Guest speaker will be Vytenis Andriukaitis, European Commissio-
ner for Health and Food Safety.

The meeting will continue on Wednesday, 11 October 2017 in the Renaissance

Brussels Hotel (Rue du Parnasse 19, 1050 Brussels) until 17.45.
