The Supreme Court has appointed former Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG)
Vinod Rai as head of four-member Committee of Administrators to run Board of Control
for Cricket in India (BCCI).

As per the updated FIFA world football rankings, the Indian national football has
managed to secure a 100th spot and entered into the top 100 of FIFA rankings. This is the
first time in 21 years that India has been ranked into top 100.

Manpreet Kaur wins shot put gold at Asian Grand Prix, sets new national record.
Shot putter Manpreet Kaur broke her own 2015 national record at the Asian Grand Prix
in Jinhua, China.
Her performance in the event has helped her to earn a gold medal and qualify for the
World Championships to be held in London in August 2017.
Her outstanding performance in the first leg of the Asian Grand Prix has helped her to
reach No 1 spot in the world rankings.
 Badminton 2017:

o B Sai Praneeth wins Singapore Open Super Series Title 2017.

o Indias ace shuttler and Olympic silver medalist PV Sindhu has won 2016
China Open Super Series title in womens category. It was her maiden Super
Series Premier title and first post 2016 Rio Olympics title.

o PV Sindhu won 2017 Indian Super Series 2017 in women's category by

defeating Carolina Marin.

o Saina Nehwal won 2017 Malaysia Masters Grand Prix Gold in women's
category.

Football 2017:

o West Bengal wins 2017 Santosh Trophy

West Bengal won the 2017 Santosh Trophy of football by defeating Goa by 1-
0 goals.

o Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo was named the worlds best player
for the year 2016 at the inaugural Best FIFA Football Awards held in Zurich,
Switzerland. To win this title he received 34.54% of total votes.

o Cristiano Ronaldo wins 2016 FIFA Ballon dOr Award

2016 IAAF World Athlete of the Year award :

o Sprint king Usain Bolt from Jamaica has been awarded the 2016 IAAF World
Athlete of the Year award in male category for sixth time.
o Almaz Ayana of Ethiopia won the award in womens award category. She was
presented with the award for her world-record run to win Olympic gold medal in
the 10,000 meters.

the Laureus World Sports Award 2017:

The US gymnast who has been awarded the Laureus World Sports Award for the
Sportswoman of the Year 2017: Simone Biles

The Jamaican athlete who has been awarded the Laureus World Sports Award for
Sportsman of the Year 2017: Usain Bolt
 Tamil Nadu won the 2017 Vijay Hazare Trophy of cricket for record fifth time defeating
Bengal. Earlier Tamil Nadu has won the trophy in 200203, 2004-05, 200809 and
200910 seasons.

India has won the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup by defeating Iran by 38-29 score in the final
match played at the Arena By TransStadia in Ahmedabad (Gujarat. It was Indias third
consecutive Kabaddi World Cup in the Standard Style version of Kabaddi. Earlier India
had won in 2004 and 2007.
