Assignment 4 Part 1
Using the CSN Education Website
1. Three resources that can be found on the CSN Education Resources webpage are:
1. There is a link Common Core State Standards Initiative which explains to why
Common Core is important, lists the guidelines and benchmarks of Common Core, and
has a nice feature for both educators and parents that shows the myths and facts of
Common Core for people who might be weary of the style of teaching.
2. There is a link to the CCSD Elementary Curriculum Overviews. The overview itself is
three years old, and some information may very well be out dated but it is a nice resource
for future teachers to take a look at to get a general idea of what standards they would be
teaching for each grade. For those who arent sure of what grade they want to teach, this
a great source to see what grade they might like best, by looking at the principals that
they would be teaching. For example, a kindergarten standard is to be able to identify
their letters, both upper and lowercase as opposed to the third grade standard of writing
opinion paragraphs and short essays.
3. The webpage also links to the Nevada Department of Education site which has
everything an educator would need to know about teaching in the state of Nevada. For
educators, this site has links to Licensure, Educator Development and Support,
Technology in Education, and Assessments for teachers. For parents, there are links to
Academic Standards, information about Charter Schools, Scholarship information, and
District Information. The website also includes a page dedicated to the state-wide bully
policy, information about End of Course Exams for high school students, and all of the
programs that are available through the Nevada Department of Education. This is a very
resourceful website for anyone looking to teach in or bring their students into the Nevada
education system.
2. Locate the Field Observation Student Information link. Identify three items listed under
the guidelines.
1. Within the Field Observation Student Information link there is a section on Dress Code
for observations that gives examples for how to dress professionally.
2. There is also a section on Professional Conduct that details what behavior is not
acceptable.
3. 3. Finally, there is a section on Attendance and Punctuality that states mandatory
attendance while working on Field Observations.
3. Resources from the CSN Library and Resources Link that can be used to conduct
research on your topic:
1. At the top of the page under the Research tab, there is a section called Start Your
Research and under that heading is a subsection called Choose Your Topic this site
gives students links to Issues and Controversies and Hot Topics to help students get
an idea of what they might want to research, if their teacher gives them a choice.
2. There is also a section under the Research tab called Course and Assignment Guides
which helps students to find the best resources for their research. This page was created
by librarians in connection with CSN faculty and lists assignments and courses for
students to choose from which then takes students to an entire page on their topic full of
factual information and possible research questions.
3. At the top of the page under the Research tab, there is a section titled How to Cite
which shows students the proper way to cite the research theyve found in their research
papers. This site gives students the option of citing in MLA, APA, and additional
resources for citing work, which makes this a great source for research in any class.
4. Nevada Computer and Technology Standards Definition: are the benchmarks that students
need to know for each grade level. Those benchmarks will then be used as stepping stones
throughout the rest of the students technological career. One standard of the Nevada Computer
and Technology site is Research and Information Fluency which asks students to be able to use
computer tools to find, understand, and then implement the information that theyve found.
5. For EDU 201/202 Intro into Elementary & Secondary Education Field Observations are a
required artifact for the students Portfolio.
Using CCSD Web Resources
1. Locate three resources on the ccsd.net website and provide a description for each.
1. At the top of the page is a link to Infinite Campus, underneath it is the link to Campus
Portal which is where parents can go to check their students grades and progress in
school.
2. Under the Students tab there is a link to the Homework Hotline which is a service
provided for students to help with homework over the phone. The website lists the
times of operation and a little bit about what they do, as well as other resources for
students.
3. At the top of the CCSD home page, there is a tab called Schools, which takes you to a
page that lists zoning information, school websites, and information about Magnet
Schools.
2. Select the employees link at the top of the menu bar
d. The annual salary for a first-year teacher in CCSD is $40,900.

3. Return to the employee link at the top of the menu. Locate the section Employee
Resources - Teachers and list three resources that can be found under this heading.
Provide a description for each resource.
1. New Teachers link: this page has information about Onboarding and commonly asked
questions.
2. Curriculum Engine link: which has information about the curriculum, common
knowledge, and is used for planning instruction.
3. Vegas PBS link: this takes you to the PBS site which gives teachers the option to
stream PBS content to their classroom in order to incorporate their videos and lessons
into the teachers classroom.
4. List three resources that you can provide your students, provide a description for
each.
1. Under Student Opportunities there is a link to Scholarships that has information on
how to apply for scholarships.
2. Under the Report a Bully tab there is a link to Say No to Bullying which lists the
districts bulling policy, gives students access to report a bully online, and then
provides a few resources for students dealing with bulling.
3. Under School Information there is a link to a list of school websites, students can
then search their school by name and if the school has a website, contact information
and a link will pop up.
5. Identify a resource that can be useful for the parents of the students in your
classroom.
Under the Parents tab there is a section called Enrollment that provides another link
Registering for School. This site provides parents with the Minimum Age and Ent race
Requirements, as well as help registering students and required documentation for
registering.
