To whom it may concern,

Cara Gulick has been a student teacher in my fourth grade class for eight weeks. She was part
of a four-teacher team which included switching classes for Science and Social Studies. The
population included regular and special education students some of whom have learning
disabilities and emotional support diagnosis. There are also ESL students and students with 504
contracts. In addition to teaching Science and Social Studies, Cara has been responsible for
teaching Language Arts and Math.
While Cara has had the experience of teaching the curriculum from district provided materials,
she also created her own lessons based on concepts and skills in the curriculum. She designed
a research and presentation project which included a rubric to replace the district curriculum
for Social Studies. Cara quickly became aware of the students strengths and weaknesses,
therefore being able to plan and group students accordingly.
Cara used direct instruction supported by centers to teach language arts. The students were
always engaged in the centers which included iPads, laptops, and a variety of online resources.
Ms. Gulick also spent eight weeks teaching math. Her lessons were planned with many
opportunities for interactive and small group instruction. She incorporated manipulatives and
other math resources into her lessons. Cara also created various review games using Kahoot.
Ms. Gulick demonstrated very effective classroom management from the beginning of her eight
week experience. She began using strategies already implemented in the classroom, and then
introduced some of her own. The students responded positively to her management style.
Cara maintained appropriate classroom control in all settings which included large group, small
group, partner and independent work.
Cara possesses a positive and enthusiastic personality. She had a great rapport with the
students and the staff she worked with. Cara always maintained a professional demeanor with
her ability to adapt to schedule changes that fit the needs of any situation, her participation in
staff meetings and IEP meetings, and her well planned lessons.
I am confident Ms. Gulick will be an asset to any school district. She is knowledgeable, a team
player, creative, and enthusiastic. I believe she has a strong foundation and will continue to
grow as she begins her teaching career. Please feel free to contact me for more information.
Sincerely,
