Narrative:
On May 13, 2017 (Saturday) a Basic Bible Seminar was conducted at the Our Lady
of Lourdes Parish with the topic entitled: Conducting Basic Bible Seminar: Methods of
Teaching. The registration started at 7:45AM and should have ended at 8:30AM but due
to various reasons such as the participants from Concepcion being lost in their way to the
parish and other matters, the registration ended at 9:00AM.
The program began with the Celebration of the Enthronement of the Bible, the
opening ceremony for the celebration of the Bible Seminar for nine (9) weeks, led by Father
Ronald Manguera, the Assistant Parish Priest of the Our Lady of Lourdes Parish. After the
ceremony, the Master of Ceremony Sis. Mely Samonte have the Roll Call per parish. It
was noticed that only the St. Isidore the Farmer Parish was not present during the seminar
because they have their town fiesta during the said date. After the Roll Call, the catechists
of the Our Lady of Lourdes Parish welcomed and invited the participants to dance in the
Lulalei song. After having the warm-up song and waking-up the mind, body and spirit
of the participants through praise songs, the program proceeded by the introduction of the
speakers for the seminar.
The first speaker was Sis. Aleta Aquino, she was introduced as a former teacher, a
retired English Supervisor of the English Department of the Tarlac City Schools Division,
a member of the Diocesan Commission on Biblical Apostolate and the coordinator of the
Vicariate of Capas, Tarlac. Her topic was on the introduction of the Basic Bible Seminar,
the people behind the Biblical Apostolate, how it was formed, their Vision and Mission,
the fivefold ministries of the Biblical Pastoral Community of the Church, the strategic plans
and Key Result Areas (KRAs) and conduction of the bible seminar per vicariate and how
it will be passed on from the Vicariate level to the Parish level. Due to the time constrains
of the seminar, the snacks was given while Sis. Aleta Aquino was having her talk on her
topic. After the talk, the speaker and participants had a 10 minutes break for them to
The second speaker was Sis. Teresita Yosuico, a retired principal at the San
Nicolas, a member of the Diocesan Commission on Biblical Apostolate and the coordinator
of the Vicariate of Tarlac City, Tarlac. Her topic was about who a leader-facilitator is, what
makes a person become a leader-facilitator, the essentials of teamwork, how to L.E.A.D.
and what are the functions of a leader, a member and the tasks that each and everyone of
us must do. She concluded her topic by encouraging everyone to finish the nine (9) weeks
of the bible seminar so that we could teach it in our own parishes.
After the topic of Sis. Teresita Yosuico, an open forum was no longer conducted
due to the time constrains of the seminar. At 12:10 noon the participants were led by the
catechists at the back of the parish church where there was the PREX hall where they ate
the lunch prepared by the parishioners of the Our Lady of Lourdes Parish.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, though the seminar did not follow the time on the program prepared,
it still ended in a blissful manner. Many of the participants were encouraged by the talk of
Sis. Aleta Aquino and Sis Teresita Yosuico. With their topics and their talk, it became clear
for the participants the things they must prepare upon having the seminar on their own
parish, like program, the MC, IDs and the food, etc.. The participants also learned the
qualities of a leader-facilitator and the responsibilities that they have been given since they
are now tasked and being prepared to become leader-facilitators of their own parishes.
Most importantly, they learned through the seminar that one does not need to become a
teacher by profession to be able to teach about the bible. The participants were encouraged
to share the knowledge and experiences they will have during this nine (9) weeks of the
bible seminar to the catechists and parishioners of their parishes. Also, as they said it in
this seminar, We could not give what we dont have, in connection with this, for the
documentation of this narrative report a picture with the participants from the different
parishes could not be given since instructions from coordinators was not disseminated on
time for the coordinators of our parish to complete this requirement.
