From the Dean's Desk
As the Director and Dean, Faculty of Education, Magadh University, I extend a very warm welcome to
the students who are desirous of seeking admission in our University. It has also been our endeavor to provide
continuous updated education in a congenial environment to our students.
With the education system unfolding new possibilities and opportunities, it is inevitable that
education in India will certainly need to do more and deliver better. Since education is the tool of Social
change, the Department of Education & other B. Ed. colleges imparting quality Education in order to create a
knowledge society and global environment. In present educational scenario innovation in classroom
practice is the crying need of hour. We encourage innovation by the classroom practitioners in and outside
the class. Emphasis is to be laid on all round development of student-teachers. A teacher must leave no stone
unturned in growing the students for nation building. The process of teaching-learning should evolve round
the issues of peace, love, harmony and brotherhood which will transform the students of today into ideal
citizens of tomorrow. I am confident that our teachers of tomorrow will definitely achieve meaningfully their
respective goals and reach their destiny.

ABOUT UNIVERSITY
Since the moment of Lord Buddha's Enlightenment under the Bodhi-Tree till the establishment of
st
Magadh University, Bodhgaya on 1 March, 1962, Magadh region of Bihar has envisaged academic
explorations in the forms of "Paraa" and "Aparaa" Vidya. Various Gurukuls, Bauddha Vihars, Shramanas,
Pathshalas, Nalanda and Udantpuri Universities, Maqtabs and English Medium Institutions echo the divinely
lit-academic throbs of Magadh down the ages. It was Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, the then president of India
and great Philosopher, Scholar of Modern age who laid the foundation of this University in August, 1964 as a
homage to Lord Buddha and Buddhism. The renowned historian Dr. K. K.Dutta was the founder Vice-
Chancellor of this University who had dreamt of disseminating the message of Buddhism by launching new
branches of South Asian Studies in the Department of History. The Departments of Philosophy, Pali, Ancient
Indian and Asian Studies as well as Buddhist Studies cater to the need of the vision and consequently this
University captivates the attention of the students and scholars of Buddhist Countries. The enrolment of
Buddhist monks and foreign scholars in the University provides it an International stature.
The Headquarters of MU is housed in an area of 600 acres of land (at 131 mtrs. Altitude; between
Latitude 2441'N & Longitude 8558'E) and its jurisdiction covers the district of Patna, Gaya, Nalanda, Nawada,
Jehanabad, Aurangabad and Arwal in Bihar (between Latitude 2430'N and 2531'NLongitude 8358'E &
865'E). At present there are 44 Constituent Colleges, 100 Affiliated Colleges, 2 Medical Colleges, 4 Engineering
Colleges, 6 Law Colleges and about 70 Teachers' Training Colleges. There are two colleges of this University
have been accredited with Grade 'A' by "NAAC". It is the largest University in Bihar. It imparts teaching up to UG,
PG, Ph.D. levels as well as Post Doctoral Research in the Faculties of Humanities, Social Sciences, Commerce,
Science, Management, Engineering, Law, Education, Medicine and Dental Sciences. Several Vocational and
Professional Courses like M.B.A., M.C.A., MRRDM, Environmental Science, Hotel Hospitality and Tourism
Management, Bio-Technology, Physiotherapy, Journalism and Mass Communication, Academy of Foreign
Languages like French, Chinese, Spanish, Japanese, Korean and German and Cultural Co-operation, Library
Science, Yoga, Women Education, BCA, BBM, OMSP, TTM, ASPSM, Environment & Water Management and
Diploma Courses in 19 subjects etc. have added extra feathers in the glorious cap of the academic pursuits of
this University. This University has also hosted First Bihar Inter University Cultural Festival "Tarang" in 2008
which was inaugurated by Her Excellency the Ex-President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devi Singh Patil on 15th
February, 2008. On 11th February, 2010 - the 3rd Bihar Science Conference was inaugurated by Ex-President of
India Late Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam at Gaya College, Gaya which is a premier constituent unit of MU
headquarters.
Magadh University strongly believes in dynamic progress in establish these different avenues for all-
round development like Media Centre and International Convention Centre, which is proposed.

THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
The Department of Education was established in 2007 with the permission of State Govt. of Bihar &
Chancellor's Secretariat (Raj Bhawan). It has B.Ed. & Ph.D. programmes. The regulation of the programmes
has been prepared and finalised by the statutory bodies of the University and approved by the Inter
University Board (Bihar) and assented to His Excellency the Governor-cum-Chancellor of Universities of
Bihar.
The Department of Education, Magadh University Bodhgaya is imparting teaching-learning and
facilitating research work since its upcoming. The Department is marching ahead in the stewardship of our
Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Md. Ishtiyaque and is well equipped with Hi-tech class rooms, different labs,
Seminar Hall, Conference Room, enriched library with reading room, & ICT lab. contributes to a state of art
infrastructure transforming the department in an international site of facilitating and constructing
knowledge. It aims at producing quality teachers to form a learning society as because quality teachers
imply quality education and the same education determines virtue of life of people in a society. The
Department is committed to quality, excellence and standard in teacher education. We are on the way to be
recognized as the Centre of excellence in teacher education.
Education Department with its exceptional infrastructure and competent faculties will contribute
constructively towards preparing professionally efficient teachers worthy to learn, earn and serve the
society. It is an honest effort for imparting teacher-education in Bihar. To play a decisive role as a teacher in
an emerging India, our teacher-trainees will be strong enough to face the challenges. Above all, we initiate
the teacher trainees to be skillful, competent, responsive, innovative and constructive. Our procedure,
system, pedagogy, faculty and infrastructure are totally geared towards helping the trainees so that they
can achieve their goals of becoming an ideal teacher.

A. M. College, Gaya is a constituent unit of Magadh University, Bodhgaya, estbalished in 1964, a prestigious
educational institution of Magadh University. NCTE has granted formal recognization for conducting B. Ed.
Programme of two years duration with an intake of 100 candidates (two basic unit) from the academic session
2013-14.

A. N. College, Patna
A. N. College, a constituent unit of Magadh University Grade A reaccredited college by NAAC. CPE staus has
been accorded by UGC to this college. It is one of the Premier colleges of the University imparting quality
education. NCTE has granted formal recognition for conducting B.Ed. programme of two years duration with an
intake of 50 candidates (one basic unit) in this college from the academic session 2015-2016.

S. Sinha College, Aurangabad


S. Sinha College, Aurangabad is a constituent unit of Magadh University, Bodhgaya, established in 1944, a
prestigious educational institution of Magadh University. NCTE has granted formal recognization for conducting
B. Ed. Programme of two years duration with an intake of 100 candidates (two basic unit) from the academic
session 2013-14.

CLIMATE
In winter minimum temperature fall also (4-6 C) sometimes and in summer it rises to (40-45C). Hence,
temperature varies for season to season throughout the year. Students of this campus enjoy different seasons
happily.

COMMUNICATION
Magadh University is well communicated to National Highway (12 km.) International Airport (6 km.)
BodhGaya and Gaya Railway Station (16 km). Buses, Taxies, Auto and Horse carts are frequently running to
target places on wide pucca roads. State Government buses are coming into campus. Hostels are well
connected with pucca roads to various departments having walkable distance.

COMMUNITY
Students with different faiths are studying here. There are Hindu, Muslims, Sikh, Christians, Buddhist,
Tribal etc. We encourage students to enquire their faith of the world alongside renowned faculty and other
students. Education at this department is about enquiry, discovery, artistic expression and cultural
enhancement.

SAFETY
Magadh University is a safe place for our students. It is a pedestrian friendly campus that is regularly patrolled
by our campus police department. Emergency medical services and additional police support is on call for
campus support from the city of Gaya at all times.

ON CAMPUS FACILITIES
Library & Reading room
Library is the store house of knowledge. It is the Window to look
the whole world. This library is connected with ultra-model peaceful
reading room having sitting capacity of 50 students. Our student-teachers
avail this opportunities regularly.

Classroom
The classrooms of the Department of Education are well specious,
ventilated & air conditioned. There is system for Power-Point
presentation, chalk board & display board in classroom. The necessary
furniture like bench, desk, made up of iron and podium, fans & light etc. are
available in each classroom
LIBRARY ROOM
Conference & Seminar Hall
Conference & Seminar hall are centrally air-conditioned with a seating
capacity of more than 100 persons and are equipped with the latest
gadgets at par with International standards.

ET/ICT Room
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is an umbrella
term that includes all technologies for the manipulation and
communication of information. It deals mainly with the uses of tools and
techniques to enhance the effectiveness of the teaching-learning
process. Educational Technologies (ET) deals mainly with broad
theoretical and classroom oriented issues, including processes, while ICT
in education largely deals with practical aspect of Educational
Technology.
CLASSROOM

Science & Mathematics Education


Resource Center
Science and mathematics are essential components of general
education of an individual. Science and mathematics are not mere
disciplines of study but also a way of life. The process of scientific thinking
based on scientific reasoning, mathematical logic, scientific method of
problem solving and mathematical accuracy and above all the values they
inculcate, cut across various disciplines and are applicable in every walk of
life.
Science and mathematics education at school level has to focus
not only on development of understanding and skills related to these
subjects but also on the development of scientific temperament among the SEMINAR HALL
learners.

Art and Craft Resource Center
A well equipped Arts and Craft Resource Centre is functional for providing opportunities and training to
student teachers for acquiring and enhancing necessary skill in different areas of arts and craft as a prospective
teacher and also as an individual.

Psychology Resource Center


The teachers are expected not only to understand children and how learning occurs but should also be
aware of their inclinations, expectations, perceptions, dispositions, potentialities, acumen etc. Teachers with
such technical know-how and confidence will not only be able to apply the theoretical knowledge to real life
situations but will also be able to use the knowledge of their field and real life experience to construct.
In the view of above opinion Psychology Resource Centre has well equipped psychological test
apparatus such as mirror drawing test, intelligence test, memory test and some paper on personality, teacher
effectiveness test to provide training for student-teachers that how to psychologically identify the individuals.

Health & Physical Education Resource Center


Health education is both contents and a process comprising of desired change in knowledge, attitudes
and practices. Sports and physical training constitutes and essential part of education. Physical development of
the body is required for healthy growth of mental abilities. Regular physical exercises and training and active
participation in various disciplines of sports and games are encouraged under the guidance of trained teacher
and coach Team events teach us to contribute individually towards a common goal and to work for common
cause. But individual events exhorts one to excel all others in the race. Athletics and indoor events like chess and
carrom are a few of such individual events the trainees are encouraged to practice.

Curriculum Laboratory
It is a new introduction in B. Ed. curriculum. Updating the curriculum is the need of the hour. As per new
guidelines of NCT we have updated the said curriculum for two years through curriculum lab. Here, several times
the curriculum of various universities are collected, discussed and created the essential issues to update the existing
curriculum identify the irrelevant issues and delete them shortly. It is a research lab on constructing curriculum.

GUIDELINES FOR ADMISSION
AVAILABILITY OF PROSPECTUS & FORMS
Prospectus can be obtained from Magadh University headquarter, Patna based Branch Office and other
constituent colleges mentioned below on payment of the prescribed price including entrance test fee of Rs. 1,000/-
(Rupees One Thousand) for General & Other Category and Rs. 500/- (Rupees Five Hundred) for SC/ST Category, in
the form of Bank draft issued from any nationalized bank, in favour of "Director, Department of Education, M.U.,
BodhGaya" payable at Bodh-Gaya or through money receipt, to be given at the sale counter of
Department/Colleges/Branch Office.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION
a) The candidate with at least 50% marks either in the Bachelor's Degree and /or in the Master's Degree in
Science/Social Science/Humanity/Commerce, Bachelor's in Engineering or Technology with specialization
in Science and Mathematics with 55% marks or any other qualification/ examination recognised by the
Academic Council of Magadh University equivalent thereto be eligible for admission to the programme.
b) No applicant shall be admitted, who has not applied for the admission within notified time or who, on being
selected for admission, does not get himself admitted within the specified time, except where the delay has
been condoned by the Competent authority.
c) The reservation in seats shall be given as per the rules of the Government of Bihar.
d) Relaxation in the qualifying marks in favour of the reserved categories (SC/ST only) shall be as per the rules
of the State Government.
e) Candidates appearing in the final year examination of Graduation/Post graduation may also apply and
appear in the entrance test. If the candidate fails to produce the original mark-sheet of the qualifying
examination at the time of counselling the claim for admission shall not be entertained in any circumstances.
f) Candidates belong to other than Bihar State shall not be given benefits of reservation policies. They will be treated
as a candidate of general category.
g) Application forms with required documents shall be submitted only through Registered/Speed Post before the Last
date of receipt at Department of Education, Magadh University, Bodhgaya - 824 234. Hence, send the application
well-in-advance so that it shall be received before the Last date. University will not be held responsible for any postal
delay.

INSTRUCTION
The application form is required to be filled up by the candidates in CAPITAL LETTERS (except signature
and address) using either ink or ball pen in HIS/HER OWN HAND WRITING. Where information is required to be
filled in boxes, write names in CAPITAL LETTERS, leave one box blank between first and middle name and also
between middle name and last name or initials of names. Your name, Father's name, Mother's name and Date of
Birth in the application form should exactly be the same as mentioned in the High School/Class X certificate. Any
discrepancy, whenever found, may lead to the cancellation of your candidature.
NOTE :
1. Your Application Forms will not be considered if not accompanied by appropriate Certificates &
Documents or received after the last date of submission
2. Incomplete application due to any reason is liable for rejection by the Department of Education, Magadh
University. The department is not responsible for postal delay, if any.
3. A candidate is required to opt any four institutions mentioned below as per their choices. Seat allotment will be

The Prospectus once sold, cannot be returned or changed in any circumstances as it is non-refundable/non-

Important Considerations While Applying For Admission


In no case original documents be sent along with the admission form, only attested copies of the documents
u
should be enclosed. However, at the time of admission the following documents will be required in original,
along with their attested photo copy for verification. Original documents will be returned to the candidate
immediately after verification and comparison.
In case the marks statement is not produced by the candidates at the time of admission the decision of the
u
Magadh University regarding his/her eligibility and admission to the programme shall be final.
The candidate selected for admission must pay the required/prescribed fees, in full at the time of admission
u
(1st Year & 2nd Year ).
There is no provision of exemption of course fee & other charges for any category of candidates.
u
On the reverse side of the Demand Draft, the candidate must write his/her name, admission form no. and
u
the name of the course applied for.
Candidates are advised to retain photo copy of the Demand Draft for their personal use and record.
u
No refund of course fee & other charges is allowed for any reason and in any case.
u
Ensure the correctness of your Mailing address, Pin code, E-mail, Telephone/Mobile No. The University will
u
not accept any responsibility for any postal delay/irregularity or loss in postal transit.
It is the responsibility of the candidates to ascertain whether they possess the requisite qualification for
u
admission. Having been called for the written test/counselling does not necessarily mean acceptance of
the eligibility.
After due date application form shall not be accepted.
u
The admission offered to a candidate who has been provisionally admitted to the B.Ed. programme will
u
stand cancelled if he/she does not submit the original relevant documents to the admission in-charge at the
time of admission.
Admission to B. Ed. programme will however be subject to verification of facts from the original
u
certificates/documents of the candidates. In case of any discrepancy, even at later point of time after
admission, the University reserves all right to cancel the candidate's admission and this decision shall be final.
Anyone who is already in employment (either whole times or part timer or in honorary capacity shall not
u
be admitted to the B.Ed. (Regular) course without taking leave from the employer for full academic
session.

ADMISSION FORM SENT TO :

INTAKE
For one academic session students will be admitted in B.Ed. Regular course based on the performance in the
entrance test, following the norms of reservation of State Government in the following B.Ed. colleges under
Magadh University.

(2) A. M. College, Gaya 100 Students
(3) S. Sinha College, Aurangabad 100 Students
(4) A. N. College, Patna 50 Students

RESERVATION
I) Seats shall be reserved for SC [16%], ST [01%], BC-I [18%], BC-II [12%] & BC Women [03%]. Admission
against these seats will be made provided the candidates has passed the Qualifying Examination and
appeared in the test and secured the qualifying marks in Entrance Examination.
ii) Appearance in the test is mandatory. The reserved category candidates shall have to submit a copy of the
certificate mentioning that the candidate belongs to a particular reserved category from an officer not
below the rank of S.D.O.
iii) There will be 3% seat reserved for physically challenged candidates: Visually Impaired (1%), Hearing
Impaired (1%) & Orthopedically Handicapped (1%). These 3% seats are within the intake limit. Percentage
of disability will be taken into consideration at the time of selection.

CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION
a) Selection of candidates shall be made strictly as per rules of the University/Department. For result visit on
our website : www.mueducation.co.in.
b) The reservation policy of the State Govt. of Bihar (for educational institutions) and the University rules will be
followed.
c) No candidate can claim admission as matter of right.
d) Selected candidates will be informed about their selection through website or by notice board in the Dept.
of Education/Authorised colleges.
e) The candidate will have to produce the selection letter and all the original documents as mentioned above,
along with the Bank Draft of the amount prescribed as fee for the course at the time of admission by the
respective college/department.
f) The University reserves the right to amend the schedule, rules, course structure and fee structure as and
when it seems necessary.

JOINT ENTRANCE TEST


a) University will hold Joint Entrance Test for selection of candidate. Selection for admission shall be made
strictly in order of merit i.e. percentage of marks secured by the candidate at the B. Ed. Joint Entrance Test
held for the purpose.
b) No Candidate will be permitted to appear in the Test without a valid Admit Card. The admit card should be
presented to the invigilators/other authorised officials for verification. The candidate's identity will be
verified in respect of his/her details on the Admit Card. If the identity is in doubt, the candidates may not be
allowed to appear in the Test. The authorities may at their discretion provisionally permit the candidate to
appear in the Test after completing formalities including taking of thumb impression/ several signatures for
further verification. No extra time will be granted for these formalities to be completed.
c) Selection list will be available at our website : www.mueducation.co.in
d) Each Candidate will be required to appear in the Entrance test only at the Centre to which he/she has been allotted.
e) No telephonic enquiry will be entertained in this regard.
f) No change will be made in the test centre allotted to the candidate under any circumstances.
g) Candidates absenting from entrance test will not be considered for admission.

DESCRIPTION OF ENTRANCE TEST


There will be objective type of test for admission in B.Ed. Programme. The test will comprises of 100
questions carrying one mark each. The objective type questions are of multiple choice with four
alternative answers (numbered 1, 2, 3, 4) to each question. Candidates are required to choose the correct
one. For the test, each candidate will be supplied a sealed question booklet (which contains the question)
and OMR answer sheet. The candidate will have to choose the correct answer and shade against the
appropriate choice in the OMR response sheet provided, strictly adhering to the instructions.
No negative marking for wrong answers.

Candidates should carefully go through and strictly adhere to all the instructions given in the OMR
u
Response sheet before they begin.
The candidates should bring their own black ball point pen of good quality. This will not be supplied by the University.
u
Candidates should shade the correct response against each question in the OMR response sheet only with
u
a black ball point pen.
The candidates should sign in the attendance sheet at appropriate places.
u
The Admit card should be preserved and produced for verification at the time of counselling/admission.
u
Violation of any instruction and adoption of any unfair means in the examination hall will make the candidate
u
ineligible for admission.
Use of any electronic devices and even cellular phones are strictly prohibited in the examination hall.
u
Candidates are also strictly forbidden from carrying any textual printed or written, bits of paper, envelope or
any other materials into the examination hall except the Admit Card.
OMR Answer sheet contains one Carbon copy. Candidate is required to submit the original copy at the
u
Examination centre and keep the carbonless copy (2nd Copy) with himself/herself for future reference.

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION
DISTRIBUTION OF MARKS
The question paper consists of two parts Part - A and Part - B.
Part - A : Consists of 80 questions carrying one mark each. Questions will be asked from General English
comprehension, Logical and Analytical Reasoning, Educational & General awareness and Teaching-
Learning and the school.
Part - B : Consists of 20 questions carrying one mark each. This part is based on subject competence and contains
faculty based questions i.e.
(i) Science faculty (ii) Humanities faculty (iii) Social Science faculty (iv) Commerce faculty
But students are advised to answer only one set of faculty based questions which they have opted. If they answer more
than one set of faculty based questions from part B, their answer sheet will be rejected by the computer.

RESULTS
Admission is based strictly on merit index prepared on the basis of marks obtained in the entrance test
following the reservation policy of the admission. No separate Call Letter will be sent to the successful
candidates. The merit list will available on the website www.mueducation.co.in. Provisional Selection List for
admission will also be available on our Website. No scrutiny/re-evaluation of answer-sheet/Booklet of the test
shall be allowed on any ground as OMR Sheets are evaluated through Computerised Data Processing.

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION


List of finally selected candidates be prepared in order of merit, based on their performance in the Joint
Entrance Test, reservation policy and counselling.

ADMISSION AND SELECTION PROCEDURE


(I) Admission shall be made strictly in order of merit, i.e. percentage of marks secured by the candidate at the
Joint Entrance Test held for the purpose.
(ii) Reservation of seats for the candidates of reserved categories will be as per State Government's rules/ M.U.
rules for admission in other Degree courses. In no case, the percentage of reservation fixed by the State Govt.
will exceed.
(iii) Reservation of seats provided in the general ordinance for admission will be applicable only when candidate
fulfills the minimum requirement.
(iv) If at any stage it is found that candidate has furnished any false information, his/her candidature shall be
cancelled immediately.
(v) The university shall reserve the right to take any decision in all matters of admission.
(vi) No applicant shall be admitted, who in the opinion of the Vice-Chancellor, should not be admitted in the best
interest of the University.

IDENTITY CARD
All students admitted to B.Ed. course of Magadh University will get Identity Card which will be remain valid till
completion of the course.

ATTENDANCE
Students are expected to attend the classes and other activities regularly. A student must have
completed 80% attendance in theory classes & 90% practicum attendance, otherwise he/she will not be
permitted to appear in the B.Ed. final examination. Under unavoidable circumstances the decision of the office
shall be final.

DRESS CODE

UNIFORM
All the students of B. Ed. Programme will have to attend their classes in the Uniform prescribed by the
Department/respective colleges.

DISPUTE, IF ANY
1. In case of any dispute, the decision of the Vice-Chancellor or statutory bodies of Magadh University shall be
final & binding on all parties.
2. For any matter the legal jurisdiction shall lie in Gaya court and / or Patna High Court only.
CHANGE OF ADDRESS
Any change in the address of the candidate enrolled must be communicated to the Department of
Education /respective college immediately.

CURRICULUM
The B.Ed. curriculum shall be designed to integrate the study of subject knowledge, human
development, pedagogical knowledge and communication skills. The programme shall comprise of three
broad curricular areas: Perspectives in Education, Curriculum and Pedagogic Studies and Engagement with
the Field. The courses under each of these curricular areas will be based on a close reading of original
writings, seminar/ term paper presentations and continuous engagement with the field. Transaction of the
courses shall be done using a variety of approaches, such as, case studies, discussions on reflective
journals, observations of children, and interactions with the community in multiple sociocultural
environments.
Information and Communication Technology (ICT), gender studies, yoga education, and disability/
inclusive education shall form an integral part of the B.Ed. curriculum. Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) &
Grade Point Assessment (GPA) will be applied in curriculum transaction.

The working hours is form 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. All students are expected to remain in the respective
colleges/Department from 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. at M.U. BodhGaya campus. The timing may change during summer as
per University guidelines.

PRACTICE TEACHING
SCHOOL INTERNSHIP
School Internship would be a part of the board curricular area of 'Engagement with the Field' the shall be
designed to lead to development of a broad repertoire of perspectives, professional capacities, teacher
sensibilities and skills. The curriculum of B.Ed. shall provide for sustained engagement with learners and the school
(including engaging in continuous and comprehensive assessment for learning), thereby creating a synergy with
schools in the neighbourhood throughout the year. Student-teachers shall be equipped to cater to diverse needs of
learners in schools. These activities shall be organized for 4 weeks in the first year of the course.
Students are to be actively engaged in teaching for 16 weeks in the final year of the course. They shall be
engaged at two levels, namely, upper primary (classes VI, VIII) and secondary (IX-X), or senior secondary, with at
least 16 weeks in secondary/senior secondary classes. They should be provided opportunities to teach in schools
with systematic supervisory support and feedback from faculty.
Internship in school will be for a minimum duration of 20 weeks for a two-year programme (4 weeks in the
first year, and 16 weeks in the second year as noted above), This should also include, besides practice teaching, an
initial phase of one week for observing a regular classroom with a regular teacher and would also include peer
observations, teacher observations and faculty observations of practice lessons.

ENGAGEMENT WITH THE FIELD/PRACTICUM


The B.Ed. programme shall provide for sustained engagement with the Self, the Child, Community and
School, at different levels and through establishing close connections between different curricular areas. This
curricular area would serve as an important link between the above two broad curricular areas through its three
components:
(a) Tasks and Assignments that run through all the courses.
(b) Schools Internship
(c) Courses on Enhancing Professional Capacities.
The curricular areas of 'Perspectives in Education' and 'Curriculum and Pedagogic Studies' shall offer field
engagement through different tasks and projects with the community, the school, and the child in school and out-
of-school. These tasks and projects would help in substantiating perspectives and theoretical framework studied
in a teacher in a teacher education classroom with field-based experiences. The tasks and projects may include
collaborative partnership with the schools for developing CCE practices, establishing study circles/forums for
professional development of in-service school teachers, or dialoguing with the School Management Committee,
etc. Community- based engagement may also include oral history projects with a community of artisans as part of
'Contemporary India and Education' or 'Pedagogy of Social Science/History'. Likewise, the pedagogy course on
science may include environment-based projects to address concerns of a particular village/city or a community.
Several spcialised courses shall be offered to enhance professional capacities of a student-teacher such
as course on language and communication, drama and art, self development and ICT. A course on critical
understanding of ICTs shall be offered as an important curricular resource, ensuring public ownership of digital
resources, and promoting constructivist approaches that privilege anticipation and co-creation over more access
to ICTs. Courses that would focus on developing the professional and personal self of a teacher will be designed to
integrate theoretical and practical components, transacted through focused workshops with specific inputs on art,
music and drama. These courses shall offer opportunities to study issues of identity, interpersonal relations, adult-
child gaps, personal and social constructs, schools as sites for struggle and social change; understanding and
practicing yoga education, developing social sensitivity and the capacity to listen and emphasize.
Programme Implementation
The institution shall meet the following specific demands of implanting this professional programme of study :
(a) Prepare a calendar for all activities, including school internship. The school internship and other school
contact programmes shall be synchronised with the academic calendar of the school.

(b) Make an arrangement with at least ten schools for the Internship as well as other school-based activities of the
programme. The arrangement shall have the approval of the district education authorities. These schools shall
form basic contact point for all practicum activities and related work during the course of the programme.
(c) Transaction of the Perspectives in Education and Curriculum and Pedagogic Studies courses should be done
using a multiple and variety of approaches such as case studies, problem solving, discussions on reflective
journals in colloquia, observations of children in multiple socio-cultural environments. Interns shall maintain
reflective journals and observation records, which provide opportunities for reflective thinking.
(d) Initiate discourse on education by periodically organising seminars, debates, lectures and discussion groups
for students and faculty.
(e) Organise academic enrichment programmes including interactions with faculty from parent disciplines; and
encourage faculty members to participate in academic pursuits and pursue research, especially in schools.
Provisions of leave shall be made for faulty to undertake research/teaching in universities and schools.
(f) School teachers shall be invited to teacher education institutions for feed back to student-teachers and for
extension/guest lectures and organising colloquium.
(g) These shall be mechanisms and provisions for addressing complaints of students and faculty, and for
grievance redressal.
(h) For school internship, the TEIs and the participating schools shall set up a mutually agreed mechanism for
mentoring, supervising, tracking and assessing the student teachers.

CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Co-Curricular activities are regular feature of B.Ed. Programme. Many different Co-Curricular activities are
organized at regular intervals of time i.e. Preparation of T.L.M., organization of cultural programme, organization of
science exhibition, survey, study tour and improvisation of apparatus etc.

REGISTRATION
All candidates enrolled for B.Ed. course must get themselves registered with Magadh University after depositing
the requisite registration fee. Candidate will not be allowed to appear in the examination without registration with
Magadh University. Those who are already registered with Magadh University need not be reregistered.

EXAMINATION SYSTEM

There are two ladders of examination system previous & final. University will conduct both the examinations. 1

year examination will be conducted after completing the courses of studies prescribed for the 1 year. The final
year examination leading to the award of degree will be held at the end of the 2nd year on the date notified by the University

FINAL EXAMINATION
1. To be permitted to appear in the examination for the Degree of the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) a candidate
must have:
(i) Completed the courses of study prescribed for the B.Ed. Programme.
(ii) Registered with Magadh University as a student.
(iii) Completed 80% attendance in theory classes and 90% in school internship and practicum of the total classes held.
2. The course must be completed in a maximum of three years from the date of admission to the programme.
3. A candidate for Bachelor of Education degree shall be examined in sixteen papers carrying total of 1300 marks.
4. There shall be five core courses carrying 100 marks each (80 marks for Theory & 20 marks for Internal assessment).
5. There shall be four core courses and two pedagogy of school subject carrying 50 marks (40 marks for theory
and 10 marks for Internal assessment) each.

6. There shall be four Enhancing Professional Capacity (EPC) papers carrying 50 marks each, which shall be evaluated internally.
7. There shall be one optional course to be offered in areas such as Vocational/Work Education, Health and Physical
Education, Peace Education, Guidance and Counseling or an additional pedagogy course carrying 50 marks (40
marks for Theory & 10 marks for Internal assessment).

8. There shall be School Internship programme for 250 marks in 2 Year. The marks shall be awarded on the basis of
overall performance of the student-teachers in the school during Internship programme. The institution shall
maintain cumulative record of activities of each student-teacher during Internship programme for the assessment
of overall performance.
9. The written examination in each of the theoretical core papers, pedagogy of School subject &optional papers shall
be of three hours duration.
10. For the evaluation of School Internship programme there shall be provision of one external examination to be
conducted by the University after completion of School Internship programme in 2nd year.
a. The medium of examination of course shall be Hindi/English/Urdu.
b. Courses of study for Bachelor of Education examination shall be the same as prescribed by the Academic
Council of Magadh University.
c. A candidate who have completed the course, fails to appear at the examination or fails to pass the examination
shall be allowed to take subsequent examination on payment of prescribed examination fee without being
required to complete the course again. However, this opportunity shall be given only in one more examination,
within a period not exceeding three years from the date of admission.
d. A candidate shall be allowed to appear in the final examination of Bachelor of Education course only if he/she
clears the 1st Year examination. If he/she fails to clear the 1st Year examination within the stipulated period of
three years from the date of admission he/she will not be allowed to appear in the final examination.

CONDUCTION OF EXAMINATION
(a) The examination shall be conducted by Magadh University which shall also finalise the programme for the
examination and necessary examination fee for its conduct.
(ii) In order to pass Bachelor of Education examination a candidate shall have to obtain at least 45% marks in theory and
50% marks in practicum separately. A candidate not securing the above qualifying marks shall be declared as fail.
(iii) The name of successful candidate shall be arranged in order of merit as follows :

(ii) All student-teachers are required to go for School Internship programme four weeks in first year and sixteen

AWARD OF DEGREE
Those who complete the programme successfully shall be awarded Bachelor of Education degree by
Magadh University, BodhGaya in prescribed format specifying the Class/Division/Grade in which he/she was placed.
