User Guide
1. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
Please be sure your computer and internet connection meet the following requirements
in order to ensure the test performs properly:
Please note that it may be necessary for you to disable pop-up blockers on your system
in order to run the test.
2. POP-UP BLOCKERS
Pop-up windows, or pop-ups, are windows that appear automatically without your
permission. They vary in size but usually don't cover the whole screen. Some pop-ups
open on top of the current Firefox window, while others appear underneath Firefox (pop-
unders).
Firefox
1. Click the Options or Preferences button in the information bar or the icon in
the status bar.
2. Make sure Select Block Pop Up Windows is not checked.
Internet Explorer
3. LOG ON

4. REGISTER
The first step is to choose your Screen Support Language. From the drop
down menu on the top right of the page, choose the appropriate language.
Support languages include: English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Dutch,
Portuguese, Polish, Hungarian, Slovak, Turkish, Korean, Japanese, Simplified
Chinese and Traditional Chinese.
Once you have selected your screen support language, click the orange
Register button on the right side of the landing page.

o Phone (including country code)
o Email Address (to which results are sent)
o 2nd Email Address (to which results are sent)
Completion
o Select or leave blank I agree to receive information about Berlitz
products and services.
o Select the check box button for I agree to the Safe Harbor terms and
conditions.
If you are already registered, enter your username and password on the landing page.
To start a new test, enter the license key in the form below followed by the I Agree and
Continue buttons.
Once you have started the test, you will receive instructions in the language of the test.
The test is a multiple choice test and very intuitive for the user.
8. TEST RESULTS
The last screen of a Berlitz Test of Listening and Reading Skills displays your results
based on:

C1 I can understand extended speech even when it is not clearly structured 88-100
and when relationships are only implied and not signaled explicitly. I can
understand television programs and films without too much effort. I can
understand long and complex factual and literary texts, appreciating
distinctions of style. I can understand specialized articles and longer
technical instructions, even when they do not relate to my field.
Independent B2 I can understand extended speeches and lectures and follow even complex 57-87
User lines of argument provided the topic is reasonably familiar. I can
understand most TV news and current affairs programs. I can understand
the majority of movies in standard dialect. I can read articles and reports
concerned with contemporary problems in which the writers adopt
particular attitudes or viewpoints. I can understand contemporary literary
prose.
B1 I can understand the main points of clear standard speech on familiar 18-56
matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. I can
understand the main point of many radio or TV programs on current affairs
or topics of personal or professional interest when the delivery is relatively
slow and clear. I can understand texts that consist mainly of high frequency
everyday or job-related language. I can understand the description of
events, feelings and wishes in personal letters.
Basic User A2 I can understand phrases and the highest frequency vocabulary related to 1-17
areas of most immediate personal relevance (e.g. very basic personal and
family information, shopping, local area, employment). I can catch the main
point in short, clear, simple messages and announcements. I can read very
short, simple texts. I can find specific, predictable information in simple
everyday material such as advertisements, prospectuses, menus and
timetables and I can understand short simple personal letters.
A1 I can understand familiar words and very basic phrases concerning myself, NA
my family and immediate concrete surroundings when people speak slowly
and clearly. I can understand familiar names, words and very simple
sentences, for example on notices and posters or in catalogues.
