Then the Lord said to Moses, Tell Aaron and his sons to
bless the people of Israel with this special blessing: May
the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on
you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his
favor and give you his peace. (Numbers 6:22-28 NLT)
This convention has stood on the shoulders of faithful men and women who through prayer,
preaching, teaching, giving and a confident hope in Christ have paved a never ending road for
Pastors, Leaders, Teachers and Messengers to continue promoting Christ The King as our Lord,
Savior, Redeemer, Good Shepherd and Conquering King.
BM&E, as we focus on the many spiritual, political, and financial issues, we must also stay
conscious of the struggles many of our churches and members are facing in their own backyards. As
leaders of people, we must not only preach and teach, but we must also meet them where they are.
In Matthew 25:37-45, Jesus shares with us that BETTER MINISTRY FOR EVERYONE requires us
to feed some people, clothe some people and open our churches to people who don't look like us,
smell like or act like us. Therefore, we must take his word and our ministry to those who cannot
come to us. Jesus said, when we do it to them, we do it unto him. Beloved, better ministry means we
strive to leave no one behind.
Beloved, for many, the only hope they have is in Christ!!! In addition, many look to see Christ in us.
Therefore, we are the chosen instruments of hope for many. JESUS said, We are the light of the
world, salt of the earth in other words, we make a difference (Matthew 5:13-16). So as we gather,
let us not forget our focus on making ministry better for everyone. I humbly ask your prayers for
the leadership of this convention, myself included. We also thank our immediate past President Dr.
Homer Jamison for his leadership and love for our convention and to its many delegates, Grace
and Peace to you from Christ our King.
A very big THANK YOU is given to our Vice President At-Large, Rev Dr. Orville K. Littlejohn and
the Messiah Baptist Church Family for your kindness and jubilant hospitality shown to us from the
planning stages of our Session, until now and to our State Director, Sis. Cecelia Dawson for her
due diligence to keep us on track. Thank you again and welcome all delegates to this time of
fellowship, worship, preaching, praying, instruction and business.

CONVENTION HISTORY
Whereas, experience has shown that in unity there is strength and things that seem
impossible to be accomplished by individual effort yield readily to combined strength;
We know that stability of government and enforcing of the law regulating its action
derive their just power form the consent of the governed. It is tyranny to do otherwise
in a Christian organization. Righteousness should be enscribed upon our banner and
the spirit of oneness in all out actions that every action should be fashioned after
that of Jesus Christ, who came not to be served, but to serve. Upon these stated
principles we, pastors and messengers of regular Missionary Baptist Churches have
by these presentations formed ourselves into a Missionary Baptist State
Convention.
(Preamble to the Constitution of the
Baptist, Missionary and Educational State Convention)
The name selected for this new convention was the Michigan State
Convention. However, this name was already in use. The collective decision
was made to name this convention the Baptist, Missionary and Educational
Convention. This name brought with it the purpose and mission which
serves as the conventions foundation.
The Rev. J.S. Williams was elected to serve as the first President of the BM&E
Convention. Other convention officers were: Rev. J.H. Johnson, First Vice
President Rev. S.S. Reed, Second Vice President and Rev. V.S. Gasby,
Recording Secretary.
Two district associations were included in the origin; Michigan District
Baptist Association and New Era Baptist Association. Soon afterwards the
Prospect District Association became a part of this convention.

BAPTIST, MISSIONARY & EDUCATIONAL STATE CONVENTION OF MICHIGAN
Greetings Beloved,
I am incredibly overjoyed to have this opportunity to worship and work with you all another year.
As I contemplate over the landscape of our Baptist, Missionary, and Educational State Convention
legacy, I thank my God for ever remembrance of the great strides we have made together as a body
of baptized believers. We have stepped into our 70th year as a convention. The Lord God has
brought us from a mighty long way.
I recount and recall the days of my youth here in this convention where there was a great focus on
biblical integrity, biblical manhood, and biblical servant hood. As a boy, I was captured by the
structure and the sincerity of the saints. There was an overwhelming willingness to build morale
and momentum with one mutual agenda, the Kingdom of God.
Our laymen have continued to seek after the maturation of men in the local churches. We have
taken much pride in accepting every man, giving him the spiritual and secular tools to succeed and
launching him back into his local assembly, edified and ready to lead with dignity, strength, and
capacity. The opportunity for Kingdom building has not expired. We are still here to make a
difference. It is with these words that I welcome you to the 70th Annual Session of the B. M. & E.
State Convention of Michigan.

Recognition of Local
District, State and National Officers Brother Marlon Nabors
Greetings beloved in the powerful name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Thank God, He is able
to do exceeding abundantly above all that we could ask or think, for His mighty power operates in
us.
We take this opportunity to welcome you to the Baptist Missionary & Educational State Convention
of Michigan 70th Annual Session. It is our prayer this session will enlighten, encourage, energize and
motivate the saints of God to become more effective ambassadors for Christ. Whatever difficulties
we face, God has promised us we are more than conquerors. Remember, God is our refuge and
strength, a very present help in trouble.
We extend our appreciation to the host, Pastor Orville Littlejohn and the Messiah Baptist Church
Family for their superb and superior hospitality. In addition, we extend our gratitude to all who
make up the B. M. & E. State Convention of Michigan. Certainly, acknowledging our powerful and
most efficient President, Dr. Wallace R. Mills and each of you for your attendance, prayers, support
and compassion. May God continue to smile on you? Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord,
and in the power of his might.

HIGHLIGHTS
BAPTIST, MISSIONARY & EDUCATIONAL STATE CONVENTION OF MICHIGAN
It is with a deep sense of humility that I greet you. God has blessed my life through His
people, BM&E. It brings me joy to serve you, who I love and I am convinced that you love
me too. Thank you for your support throughout the years and especially over the past year
as I embarked on a new plane of service as National Baptist Convention, USA Inc., Womans
Auxiliary President.
Thank you to all of our guests who are sharing this week with us. I am sure you will be
blessed as a result of your coming. The women of BM&E have labored hard this year, yet we
have not failed to fellowship with a kindred spirit. We have rejoiced together over
celebrations and victories and we have wept for the discomforts of our sisters and families.
Pray for us as we continue to do His will and His work, His Way.
Thank you pastors for allowing your women to be actively involved in this Womens
Ministry. There is always a need for more workers in the vineyard. We applaud our
Unsung Hero and Sheroes honored at the Annual Parade of Roses Scholarship Luncheon
and celebrate the 2017 Scholarship Recipients.
In Sisterly Love,
Sister Smith

This robust list of firsts complements the existing work and accomplishments of the Youth/Young Adult
Auxiliary. We continue to be on the forefront of relevant programming for Christian youth and young adults
meeting standards of excellence. I am proud of our accomplishments. They have been monumental and
momentous!! I am thankful and excited to be a catalyst for change and renewal. Special thanks are extended to
Presidents Chapman, Jamison and Mills for their extraordinary leadership. I also extend thanks to my Pastor, Rev.
Robert Smith, Jr. for his support and to all of the Pastors of this great convention for supporting this auxiliary with
your financial contributions and trusting me with your youth and young adults. I am exceptionally thankful for
my co-laborers, the Youth & Young Adult Auxiliary staff. They have worked untiringly throughout the years
with me on this spiritual excursion leading our youth and young adults toward the prize of the High calling.
As I leave this post, but not the children, youth and young adults of BME, I pray that this auxiliary will continue
to be full of Gods transforming presence and will shape this world as a generation of believers with a passion
for Jesus Christ! For it was my goal to develop a generation of youth and young adults who are equipped with
tools to witness and minister to this generation and generations to come.
Thank you for this opportunity to serve! I will forever love and cherish my memories as President of BMEs
Youth and Young Adult Auxiliary. May the blessings of our Lord and Savior be upon you.
In Christs Service,
Yvonne Pitts
