In Eighth Grade English Language Arts, students continue to develop an appreciation of written
and spoken language that now begins to extend beyond the school setting. They broaden their
reading experiences through the study and analysis of compelling literature while continuing to
develop their own writing styles. They independently apply the steps of the writing process to
produce, revise, and publish informational and literary essays drawn from research. The Georgia
Milestones Assessment System will serve as a measure of what students have accomplished.
Writing
The student will produce a variety of writings such as argumentative, narrative,
expository, and response to literature.
The student will use technology to research topics and to produce various products such
as essays and presentations.
Each semester students will participate in a group project and presentation according to
Project Based Learning guidelines.
Language
The student will learn and apply the rules of Standard English in written and oral
language.

dismissed from the program.
Personal Note:
I believe respect for yourself and others is key to success here at River Trail Middle. All other
school and class rules fall under this category. It is my goal to foster an environment conducive
to learning; therefore, students are expected to follow class, school, and county guidelines for
behavior as found at the beginning of the Agenda. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself
with these guidelines for behavior.
