Dear Students, Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to 6th grade Earth Science! My name is Katy Coleman and I am delighted to meet
you! (Please fill out and return attached survey ASAP, so I get to know all of my
students and their guardians!)

About Ms. Coleman

This is my 7th year teaching at EMS. I have a B.S. in Biology from Western Illinois
University. Ive worn many hats, including that of a zookeeper, lab technician, and pet hotel
hostess. I switched career paths and went to UNM and earned a M.A. in Education.

Supplies (Please bring ASAP, by Monday August 21st , we will be putting together
notebooks that day)
2 composition books (not spiral notebooks!)
3 rolls of scotch tape refills
Voluntary $10 lab fee (no checks, please. We are a cash only school)

Course Description
This course curriculum is based off of NM PED 6th Grade Science Standards. We will begin
the year learning about matter and energy, then we will cover some geology, meteorology,
astronomy, and finish with oceanography.

Science Composition Notebook: Interactive Notebook (IAN)

The IAN is the main textbook that well add to throughout the year. It is the students
responsibility to bring it to class EVERY DAY. Practice assignments, labs, and notes
will all go into the IAN. Due dates will be clearly communicated. Your child will be bringing
home their IAN next week so that you may go over the directions for the notebook,
explanation of grading, and behavior expectations.

Communication (Always check students EMS Agenda for hw and messages!)

Remind.com (see attached directions) I will use this for sending out reminders
about important dates. It works via email or text.

EisenhowerEarthScienceColeman.Weebly.com. This is my classroom website. I

will post links to important tools plus the weekly agenda.

Synergy Can be accessed to check grades- click on link at Eisenhower.aps.edu
