Engineers Crispin and Myra Torres: Highlights of a Life Journey

A tree is known by its fruitfor a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear
good fruit. For every tree is known by its own.
Such great statement from the Good Book may as well describe the couple, Cris and Myra
Torres. From humble beginnings in 1990 to thriving businesses in construction, real estate and
memorial services, these enterprises are the good fruits from the good tree of Cris and Myra.
More significantly, this productive tree has raised three children who have demonstrated their
parents DNA of Christian faith, hard work and industry, prudence and responsibility.
Myra and Cris met in Mapua Institute of Technology where they both studied and received their
Civil Engineering degrees in 1979 and 1980, respectively. They separately pursued their
individual careers after graduation and passing the Board Exam. Cris first job was with
Engineering Equipment Inc. (EEI), and he later moved on as Field Engineer doing special
projects for Asia Brewery, Bataan Refining Company in Limay, Bataan, and Sea Weeds
Manufacturing in Cebu. Myra joined Freyssinnet Phil. as Cadet Engineer and proved her mettle
in business development when she rose to become Vice-President until she resigned in1994 to
engage full time in the business that she and Cris established.
In 1983, the couple got married, and Cris went overseas to hone his skills, first as structural
designer in Iraq, and later as Cost Control Engineer in Saudi Arabia from 1984 until 1988.
These experiences bode well in the next chapter of the couples professional journey when they
decided in 1988 to embark on an entrepreneurial endeavor, with a modest capital of P20,000
and huge amount of lakas ng loob.
Since then, the couples hard work and perseverance have borne fruits with three on-going
enterprises:
(1) CT Builders, Inc. the company has been building houses, warehouses, fabricating
steel trusses; it has been a long-standing partner for 27 years of Technological Institute
of the Philippines, maintaining its campus facilities in Cubao and Manila, and
constructing gyms and buildings: the most recent projects are two steel frame-structured
7-storey school buildings. The company is credited with a license A with the PCAB
(Phil. Construction Accreditation Board.

(2) La Mirasol Realty and Development Corporation- the company developed MIrasol
Village in Taytay, Rizal, and currently catering/marketing to middle-income families.

(3) Haven of Angels Memorial Chapels and Crematorium located in the uncongested and
cool hills of Antipolo City, along Sumulong Hiway, the facility stands in a one-hectare lot
with excellent amenities and personalized service catering to the AB, and upper-C
income segments of the market. Amidst a quiet and refreshing garden atmosphere that
evokes intimate contemplative mood, a gleaming 4-storey Columbarium rises providing
wonderful overlooking views.
Notwithstanding their busy commitment to their businesses. Cris and Myra have been active
participants in the professional organizations of their industry: memberships include the
following:

1. PICE ( Phil institute of Civil Engineers) ,

2. NAMa (National Association of Mapua Alumni) ,
3. Ce Ense Alumni Association (both Cris and Myra served as President on different
terms)

The good Lord has not only blessed the couples business partnership (Cris is mainly
responsible for the technical aspect, Myra is in finance and administration), but the blessings
have poured into their personal relationship having been married for 33 years, and have raised
3 children- Opalyn, Jason, and Harold. Opalyn, a registered Nurse, helps in managing Haven of
Angels, while Jason and Harold, who graduated with engineering degrees in La Salle University,
are both licensed and engaged as project engineers in CT Builders, Inc. Cris and Myra are
hands-on in guiding and training the three children in managing and operating the thriving
businesses and looking forward to eventually handing over the reins to them in due time.
