Final Reflection
In the beginning of this course, I set a few goals for myself to ensure I did as much as possible to
learn from this course. My general goals included managing my time wisely, learning more about history
and improving my study habits. I was able to achieve these goals by starting my assignments in advance
to finish them on time and learned more about history by researching some topics I didnt know about. I
also improved my study habits by trying to understand all the material instead of only reading it. This
course helped me learn a couple of useful attributes such as developing my critical thinking and reading
skills, gaining new insights and observations and learning more morals. By doing the document
interpretations, I learned how to summarize and figure out the main points of a text. The documents we
read also helped me learn more moral lessons as I read what the Indians, African-Americans and others
had to go through. These lessons that Ive learned will help me in other classes as I will need to be able
to think analytically and critically in other subjects as well, especially in English classes. I will also be able
to figure out the main points of a passage, and use the main points to summarize the passage. Learning
how to deduce the main points and summarize will be very useful in other courses and everyday life as
we can use it to write good essays as well as make speeches. In this course, I also learned to interpret
and understand both primary and secondary historical documents from my own point of view. To
understand the entire story, we must know both sides and not be biased. Therefore, the observations
will be from a fair and impartial perspective. This is a lesson that is helpful in multiple aspects of life as
we need to know both sides of a story in order to gain a better understanding and be unbiased. The
documents that Ive read from this course also helped me learn the troubles and horrible situations that
some people had to go through. Slavery was one of the biggest and most common topics during this
entire course. It was surprising what some people did to other humans and how they treated them like
animals. These documents are extremely important as we learn what happened in the past and how to
improve from it. All men are created equal, therefore we must treat everyone equally regardless of their

race, gender, culture, language, religion or social status. These documents showed me how a lot of
people suffered only because of their skin color or race. People should embrace others who are
different from them, instead of degrading them and viewing them as inferior. This course has taught me
various interesting and useful aspects of U.S. history which I would not forget. I will use these skills and
lessons that Ive learned in both my classes and everyday life. I will also continue to improve on my
analytical and critical skills to further improve myself and analyze passages more effectively and quickly.
I also plan to read more about history to understand what major events caused the United States of
