GRADES 5-6 HOMEWORK POLICY MR.

THOMA
St. Peters Lutheran School, Sturgeon Bay

As Christians, we strive to glorify our Father in heaven with the work we do. Homework will be treated
no differently in this classroom. Each child will be encouraged to do their best at all times and, even when struggling,
they will be urged to keep trying. Our goal will be to see every child experience as much success as possible.

Therefore the following policies will be used to help meet that goal:

1) Assignments will range from written work (some typed) to oral work and group work. Double check all
assignments due for the day before 8:00 AM every morning.

2) Assignments will be given DAILY; students should expect to bring SOME work home.
Parents: Consider it unusual if your child NEVER has homework. Please check in with the teacher.

3) The majority of class work and presentations will receive a letter grade. A few assignments will be done
for credit. This may range from a pass/fail format to simply positive reinforcement for work well done.

4) Memory work will be written or recited orally according to the schedule. Start memory work at least two
days in advance and learn it in segments if needed. Appointments are available to recite ahead.

5) An assignment worksheet is kept DAILY by the student. Write assignments on your worksheet as soon as
the assignment is given. Parents and teacher will monitor the childs organizational skills during the
year. Parents will be given an access code to check on assignments through POWERSCHOOL.

6) Test and project scores as well as quiz grades are more weighted than daily work. Parents will have access
to grades through POWERSCHOOL. Tests and quizzes that receive a perfect score of 100 may make the
student eligible for special recognition or a homework pass.

7) Seven book reports will be required during the year. Three of those will require a written and oral report.
A book report schedule from October to April will be monitored in Google classroom.

8) Late work is unacceptable and will require immediate consequences. Grades will be affected according to
handbook guidelines. Insufficient preparation for class work or memory work can result in the loss of
recess time. All work must be satisfactorily submitted to be considered for promotion to the next grade.

9) In cases of incomplete or unsatisfactory work, students may receive a U on the paper. This means the
work is unacceptable in its present form and must be corrected and resubmitted ASAP.

God-pleasing preparation is the key for us all. With the help of our faithful Savior, both teacher and student can be
faithful to this goal of success and satisfaction.
