operate and solve this problem of water pollution.

Task Seven
ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA

The introduction of impurities into water which adversely affects

humans, animals and aquatic lives is referred to as water pollution.

It is caused mainly by the following:

Fertilizer and Pesticides

Sewage
Domestic influent
Industrial Waste
Oil spills

One consequence of water pollution is solid waste accumulating in canals

and drains contributing to flooding.

In the analysis it was seen that the main factor responsible for contributing
to water pollution is the unsanitary residents which was 50%. However, with
the residents being unsanitary this may lead to the circulation of all kind of
diseases with the area.

The analysis shows that 56% of garbage was not collected according to a
proper schedule. In most cases weather the garbage is placed into plastic bags
or garbage cans or other containers are left for long period outside these
residence, this allows for the scattering of the garbage by dogs and cats
searching for food.

In the analysis 68% of the residence is affected by water pollution monthly

from time to time. This is a major issue which needs to be attended by
residents and the authorities.

13 | P a g e
Task Eight STATEMENT OF FINDINGS

The survey has revealed a number of deficiencies which leads to the

cause of water pollution in the East Ruimveldt drainage canal.

12% said garbage is dumped weekly, while 88% said garbage is

dumped daily. According to the survey the garbage is dumped into
the drainage canal because it is not collected at all.

Cases of dead animals are not collected by the garbage collector

therefore they are thrown into the canal.

In most cases the garbage collectors do not pick up scattered

garbage, so it finds its way into the drainage canal.

Task Nine
RECOMMENDATIONS

The most important recommendations is in order to maintain a healthy

environment in the East Ruimveldt community, each resident, the garbage
collectors and the government must play their role to alleviate many of the
problems caused by water pollution.

In the efforts sign should be placed where garbage disposal should not
take place.

The local government authorities should set up programs to educate the

residents about proper garbage disposal this should happen by
organizing a community meetings and by doing this residence will be
educated on water pollution and the consequences. Hence residence
and authorities will both work together to deal with this problem.

15 | P a g e
IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGY

In order to solve the problem the researcher could:

Help to build signs showing the consequences of water pollution and it

will also indicate to them that it is illegal to dump garbage into the canal.

Also print flyers to distribute to the residence, helping to educate them

about proper garbage disposal.
