1. Draw appropriate graphs for Age and Type and comment.

Graphs for Age:

Comment for age: Majority repair time depends on 8 months age. Minority repair time
depends on 1. Extreme value is 18 months.

Graphs for Type:

Comment: Mechanical type of problem is higher than electrical type of problem.

2. Treat TimeCat as dependent variable and perform bivariate
analysis to see whether service time depends on AgeCat and
Type. Use percentage comparison to reach out conclusion
about these associations.

Findings: Whether the item is too old it takes too long time. For example, those items which
ages are too old that takes 82.5%among the new items age. This gives evidence that the
opinion depends on the level of item.

Findings: Whether the problem is Mechanical it takes too long time. For example, those
items which are mechanical, that takes 96.5% among the repair time. This gives evidence that
the opinion short or long time depends on the level of item of electrical or mechanical.

3. Specify null and alternative hypothesis to test statistical significance
of association in (2), perform chi-squared tests and comment.

Whether the item is too old * Repair Time whether short or long

Chi-Square Tests
Value df Asymp. Sig. (2-sided)
Pearson Chi-Square 14.672a 1 .000
Likelihood Ratio 14.094 1 .000
Linear-by-Linear Association 14.643 1 .000
N of Valid Casesb 500

Test of Hypothesis:

0 = There exists no association between repair time and age of the component.

1 = There exists association between repair time and age of the component.

Let

, 0.05

= 0.000

We reject H0.

Thus, we have enough evidence to conclude at 5% level that there exists association between
repair time and age of the component.

So it is significant association.

Test of Hypothesis:
0 = There exists no association between repair time and type of the problem.
1 = There exists some association between repair time and type of the problem.

Let

, 0.05

= 0.000

We reject H0.

Thus, we have enough evidence to conclude at 5% level that there exists some association
between repair time and type of the problem.

4. Fit a linear regression model, where Time is the dependent

variable and Age is independent variable. Write down the fitted
model and comment on the result.

Coefficients
Unstandardized Coefficients Standardized Coefficients

Model B Std. Error Beta t Sig.

1 (Constant) 3.416 .133 25.612 .000

Months since it was sold .115 .016 .312 7.318 .000

a. Dependent Variable: Repair time (hr) needed

,
0 = 3.416
1 = 0.115
Regression Model
= 0 + 1 +
Fitted Model
= 3.416 + 0.115
Interpretation:
If age of product increases by 1 time, then time will increase by 0.115 per hour.

5. Refer to (4). Comment on the statistical significance of Age on
Time.

6. Refer to (4). Predict repair time needed if a component is sold 17

months ago (i.e. Age = 17).

= 3.416 + 0.115
= 3.416 + 0.115 17
= 5.371
