7.1 VIC model Implementation

In the present study, hydrological simulation of a suitable Indian river basin will be carried out
for which a semi distributed hydrological modelling approach has been adopted. VIC is a semi
distributed macroscale hydrological model that calculates statistically the water budget of the
basin within each grid. Hence, to establish the VIC model it is essential to generate a grid map
over the basin and then to prepare database for input parameters.

7.2 Constructing Soil Parameter file

The primary data source to prepare this input is digital soil texture map. Soil texture map will
be rasterised and overlaid with the grid map to extract dominant soil type in each grid. The soil
parameter file will be prepared for run grids only using VIC tool.

7.3 Vegetation Parameter file
The land cover in VIC model can be described using two files:
1. Vegetation library file: describing hydrologically important characteristics of different land
cover types.
2. Vegetation parameter file: contains the spatial variability of land cover and describes the
vegetative composition of each grid cell, and uses the same grid cell numbering as the soil file.
So the LULC map will be required to complete this task.

7.4 Meteorological forcing file

The present study requires the following meteorological variables to force the VIC model:
1. Tmax Daily maximum temperature (C)
2. Tmin Daily minimum temperature (C)
3. Precp Daily precipitation (mm)
