1. Before Starting the Repair Work
Be sure to read the following precautions before starting the repair work.
CAUTION:
This is a high voltage circuit, so be careful of electric shock.

1.4 Connectors for FPC Board
This product uses six types of connectors for the FPC board.

CAUTIONS:
1. For Type D, Type E, and Type F connectors, make sure to set them to
the unlocked state before removing and inserting FPC board. After

FPC board is inserted, set them to the locked state.
2. The FPC board is equipped with holes as shown. Use them for re-
moval and insertion by inserting the tweezers into them as required.

2. Disassembly
2.1 Procedure
The following flowchart shows the disassembly procedure for PowerShot S3 IS.
Reverse the disassembly procedure to reassemble them. The pages to refer to are shown in parentheses ( ).

2.2 BAYONET UNIT, BATTERY HOLDER
(1) Press the BAYONET LOCK BUTTON, and rotate the BAYONET UNIT in the direction of the
arrow, and then remove it.
(2) Open the BATTERY LID UNIT and remove the BATTERY HOLDER.

2.3 EYEPIECE COVER
(1) Remove the EYEPIECE COVER.
NOTE (Assembly)
When installing the EYEPIECE COVER, install the EYEPIECE COVER from the left side.

2.4 SIDE COVER UNIT
(1) Remove the screws a 3, b 2.
(2) Open the LCD UNIT and FLASH as shown in the figure.
(3) Disengage the claw, and remove the SIDE COVER UNIT.

2.6 BATTERY LID SHAFT, BATTERY OPEN SPRING, BATTERY LID UNIT
(1) Remove the BATTERY LID SHAFT with a pair of tweezers or similar tool.
CAUTION
Be careful not to drop the BATTERY OPEN SPRING.
(2) Remove the BATTERY OPEN SPRING and the BATTERY LID UNIT.
NOTE (Assembly)
Install the BATTERY OPEN SPRING as shown in the figure, and insert the BATTERY LID SHAFT
from the narrow end.

2.9 CARD LID UNIT, CARD LID SHAFT, CARD OPEN SPRING
(1) Remove the CARD LID SHAFT with a pair of tweezers or similar tool.
CAUTION
Be careful not to drop the CARD OPEN SPRING.
(2) Remove the CARD OPEN SPRING and the CARD LID UNIT.

2.12 OPERATION UNIT

2.13 OPERATION FPC ASSY, REAR PLATE
(1) Remove the screws h 2.
(2) Disengage the eight dowels, and separate the OPERATION FPC ASSY and the REAR PLATE,
which are fixed together with the OPERATION TAPE, the DOUBLE-SIDED TAPE (6mm 6mm),
and the DOUBLE-SIDED TAPE (8mm 15mm).
NOTE (Assembly)
Attach the OPERATION TAPE, the DOUBLE-SIDED TAPE (6mm 6mm), and the DOUBLE-
SIDED TAPE (8mm 15mm) at the positions shown in the figure.

(1) Disconnect the two connectors and slip off the rib.
(2) Remove the screw g 1 and remove the EMI SHEET.
NOTE (Assembly)
Hook the cables on the rib as shown in the figure.
When tightening the screw, be careful not to catch the lead wires with the screw.
Insert the EMI SHEET into the space (Portion A) between the MAIN PCB ASSY and the MAIN
CHASSIS.

(1) Peel off the ELECTRIC INSULATION TAPE (18mm 10mm).
