1. Before Starting the Repair Work
Be sure to read the following precautions before starting the repair work.

1.1 Precautions on Flash High Voltage Circuit


After the DC/DC PCB ASSY is removed, be sure to discharge the main capacitor.
(Discharging resistor: 1 k, approx. 5 W.)
First contact the GND terminal of the main capacitor with the discharging resistor. Then contact the
positive terminal of the main capacitor.

CAUTION:
This is a high voltage circuit, so be careful of electric shock.

1.2 List of Tools


The following tools are used for re-assembling during service.

1.3 List of Supplies


The following supplies are used for re-assembling during service.
This product uses a lead-free solder for mounting.
To repair this product, use a lead-free solder.
When you use the Double-sided Tape, choose the SONY T4000 or the No.501F according to the size.

CAUTIONS:
1. For Type D, Type E, and Type F connectors, make sure to set them to
the unlocked state before removing and inserting FPC board. After

moval and insertion by inserting the tweezers into them as required.

2.1 Procedure
The following flowchart shows the disassembly procedure for PowerShot S3 IS.
Reverse the disassembly procedure to reassemble them. The pages to refer to are shown in parentheses ( ).

(1) Press the BAYONET LOCK BUTTON, and rotate the BAYONET UNIT in the direction of the
arrow, and then remove it.

(1) Remove the BATTERY LID SHAFT with a pair of tweezers or similar tool.
CAUTION
Be careful not to drop the BATTERY OPEN SPRING.
(2) Remove the BATTERY OPEN SPRING and the BATTERY LID UNIT.
NOTE (Assembly)
Install the BATTERY OPEN SPRING as shown in the figure, and insert the BATTERY LID SHAFT
from the narrow end.

2.13 OPERATION FPC ASSY, REAR PLATE
(1) Remove the screws h 2.
(2) Disengage the eight dowels, and separate the OPERATION FPC ASSY and the REAR PLATE,
which are fixed together with the OPERATION TAPE, the DOUBLE-SIDED TAPE (6mm 6mm),
and the DOUBLE-SIDED TAPE (8mm 15mm).
NOTE (Assembly)
Attach the OPERATION TAPE, the DOUBLE-SIDED TAPE (6mm 6mm), and the DOUBLE-
SIDED TAPE (8mm 15mm) at the positions shown in the figure.

(1) Disconnect the two connectors and slip off the rib.
(2) Remove the screw g 1 and remove the EMI SHEET.
NOTE (Assembly)
Hook the cables on the rib as shown in the figure.
When tightening the screw, be careful not to catch the lead wires with the screw.
Insert the EMI SHEET into the space (Portion A) between the MAIN PCB ASSY and the MAIN
CHASSIS.
