Ex no: 7 FLOW ANALYSIS IN A PIPE

Date:

Determine the pressure drop in a pipe line for a length of 100m and diameter of
0.1m. whose friction factor(f)=.025,density()=1000kg/m3,viscosity()=1.78*e-5
and with the velocity of 5m/s.

Aim:

To determine the pressure drop of the given pipe

Software required:

ANSYS software

Procedure:

1. Click the preference in main menu and choose ANSYS fluid>ok.

2. Open preprocessor in main menu

a. Element type>add/edit/delete>click add > select Flotran CFD>3d Fluid

116> click ok.
b. Element type>options>pressure DOF>ok>conductance>mp with
mu>additional length.
c. Real constant>>pipe diameter >0.1.
d. Material properties>material models>CFD>density=1000.
e. Material properties>material models>CFD>viscosity=1.78e-5.
f. Material properties>material models>acoustics>boundary admittance=.025.
g. Modeling>create nodes>in active CS> for 1st node give x=0, y=0.for 2nd
node give x=100,y=0.
h. Modeling>create>elements>auto numbered>thru nodes>select 1st & 2nd
node.
3. Open solution in main menu

a. Define loads>apply>fluid CFD>flow>on nodes.

b. Pick the1st node and give 39.25.
c. Define loads>apply>fluid CFD>pressure>on nodes.
d. Pick the 2nd node and give 0.
e. Solve >current LS.

4. Open the general post proc in main menu

a. Plot result>contour plot> nodal solution>DOF solution>pressure.

5. Tool bar

a. Plot control>style>color>reverse video.

b. Plot control>capture image.
Pressure drop:

Result:

Thus the pressure drop for the given pipe was founded using ANSYS
software
