My dream, my hope for the future
is that we evolve into beings that
care about the far distant future.
That we evolve to care not just
about our own species, but also
about the other living creatures
With which we share this planet.
That will be the ultimate definition

Gloria Lamson

Gloria Lamson's art is, in her words "a

Vehicle for exploration". She incorporates
fire, water, earth, chalk, survey tape, twine,
flour and other materials to create
temporary forms in the landscape. Many of
her photographs are the result of
repeated interactions with a site and

the disintegration or alteration of a piece

Diana Thompson
Canadian born artist Diana Thompson poses
questions in her Artist Statement:

Is it possible to do no harm? Is it possible to
consider every single word, to make every
touch matter?

If something lasts only briefly, can it still be
full of meaning?

How do we dissolve the idea of other?
Is living in peace possible?
How can kindness become the base of our
lives?

These are some of the questions I ask
myself, not just in my studio, but every
moment of my life. I want the world to revolve
around compassion, and I want to know if it

Strijdom van der Merwe

Strijdom van der Merwe uses materials he

finds on site. Based in South Africa, his
sculptural forms take shape in relation to the
landscape. It is a process of working with the
natural world, using sand, water, wood and
rocks.

He shapes these elements into
geometrical forms that participate with their
environment, continually changing until their
final inevitable destruction.

The red leave segments are stuck

to the bottom of the yellow linden
leaves with spittle. The whole
thing took less than half an hour,
and I remember that I made it
while I was taking my daughter for
a walk in the pram, so she was
sleeping next to me while I made
it. Then I pushed her about in the
pram for another 30 minutes or
so, and when I came back, the
leaves were still there.
