TOPS 0-05 Product Stewardship


1 Scope
Yara is committed to Product Stewardship ensuring that fertilizers and their raw materials,
additives and intermediate products are processed and manufactured, handled, stored,
distributed and used in a safe way with regard to health, occupational and public safety,
environment, and security. This standard describes necessary activities to comply with Yaras
Product Stewardship commitments and to meet the companys Product Stewardship policy
and programs established by Fertilizers Europe (FE) and the International Fertilizer
Manufacturers Association (IFA).

2 Responsibility
Each Yara unit management is responsible for compliance with the standard.
Yara HESQ assists and supports the units in their Product Stewardship activities, as well as
setting goals and reviewing the results and performance.
Operating in non-compliance with this standard requires the approval of Yara Management.
Non-Conformity shall be managed with the TOPS Non-Conformity Handling Tool.

3 Definitions

The definitions given in TOPS 0-00 apply.

4 Requirements
Product Stewardship ensures that proper care is taken along the whole fertilizer value chain
from product development and purchase of raw materials, during production and storage, and
in the distribution network right up to the end delivery and use on the farm. It addresses
product safety, environmental issues and safe food production, and security against theft and
misuse.
Yaras Product Stewardship policy is included in the Yara HESQ policy.
European Upstream and Downstream units as well as European Supply & Trade units
operating with sourcing and logistics shall comply with the Fertilizers Europe Product
Stewardship Program, including certification requirements as defined by Fertilizers Europe.
Non-European Upstream, Downstream and Supply & Trade units shall comply with the IFA
Protect & Sustain (P&S) program. A unit should be certified if a certificate is pursued by Yara
or segment management or if it promotes Yara business.
Units in the Industrial segment shall comply with the Product Stewardship management
requirements to the level it is applicable for their operations. Certification requirement does
not apply.
Additionally, local programs are applied when relevant, like the Fertilizer Industry Assurance
Scheme (FIAS) program in the UK.
Practices and procedures needed to comply with the Fertilizers Europe and IFA Product
Stewardship requirements shall be implemented via the Yara Steering System and/or local
management systems.
Each Yara unit shall:
-Communicate Yara's Product Stewardship policy internally and externally.
-Integrate Product Stewardship into the units management system supported by
procedures and specifications as appropriate.
- Operate in accordance with these principles and establish goals and action plans for
improvements when applicable.
- Review the operations regularly, and as a minimum in accordance with Fertilizers
Europe / IFA auditing practice.
Yara HESQ shall:
- Assist the units in Product Stewardship activities.
- Assist the units in evaluating and responding to regulatory requirements within the
field of Product Stewardship.
- Establish Product Stewardship requirements for the units by providing Yara Steering
System documents for key areas and developing performance measures for Product
Stewardship
- Support the units in authoring legally required product safety information such as
Safety Data Sheets
- Initiate product safety, environment, quality and security related research and
development as agreed with Yara management.
- Monitor and review Yaras activities on Product Stewardship on regular basis.
- Coordinate Product Stewardship certification activities for Yara units
