CHILDRENS MINISTER

FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH PINEVILLE

PRINCIPAL FUNCTION

The Childrens Minister is responsible for the development and implementation of expanded
programs designed to minister to preschoolers, children, their parents, and their leaders in
carrying out the mission of Christ through the Childrens Ministry of First Baptist Church.

The Childrens Minister will direct the planning, coordinating, operation, and evaluation of a
comprehensive Childrens Ministry which involves members of First Baptist Church and
prospects.

ADMINISTRATIVE SUPERVISOR: Pastor

PROFILE

1. Has a personal commitment and devotion to Christ and His church, and a sense of call to
minister for Christ through a local church.

2. Is a graduate or current student of a Southern Baptist college or seminary.

3. Has a minimum of three (3) years experience in local church Childrens Ministry.

4. Has a high level of commitment to reaching the non-Christian and the unchurched.

5. Has a commitment to educate and nurture children in the Christian faith.

6. Exhibits proven ability to envision, organize, administer, and creatively evaluate and
develop church programs, especially those related to childrens ministry.

7. Has a high level of energy and self-motivation.

8. Communicates effectively through the spoken and written word.

9. Relates well to individuals and groups.

10. Committed to parental involvement in ministry and helping grow F.I.R.S.T. Kids into
F.I.R.S.T. Adults according to the discipleship strategy of First Baptist Church Pineville.
Serve as Church Leader for Milestones 1, 2, and 3.

11. Displays the ability and willingness to work with the Pastor and staff as a team.

PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Ensure a safe and secure environment in the preschool and childrens building through
developing and implementing plans for drop-off, pick-up, and check-in.

2. Review, select and provide appropriate curriculum for Sunday School and missions
activities.

3. Direct the planning, conducting, and evaluation of a program for preschool children
including but not limited to the following:
a. Sunday School
b. Extended Session
c. Mission Friends
d. Preschool Choir (with Music Ministry)

4. Direct the planning, conducting, and evaluation of a comprehensive program for children
including but not limited to the following:
a. Sunday School
b. RAs, GAs
c. Childrens Choir (with Music Ministry)
d. New believer discipleship as well as an ongoing plan of discipleship for children.
e. Upward Basketball/Cheer

5. Keep the preschool and childrens area clean and inviting by regularly updating bulletin
boards, keeping the children and preschool supply closets well-stocked and orderly,
reporting needed repairs, etc.

6. Develop and conduct special events and programs for children: (1) appropriate to their
needs; (2) in addition to the ongoing program organizations of the church; and (3) within
budget and calendar guidelines and areas of assigned responsibility. Such activities might
include fellowships, retreats, mission trips, and personal growth activities. In general,
there should be a minimum of one childrens activity per month during the school year
and a minimum of three childrens activities per month during the summer holidays.
Some of these may combine all children, some may be specifically related to preschool,
elementary, or middle school. Some events may be for boys and others for girls. Annual
events that shall be the responsibility of the Childrens Minister are as follows:
a. Vacation Bible School
b. Summer camp
c. State Convention Events such as RA/GA events, Preteen Invasion, MJam, etc.
d. Children and Youth fundraiser banquet and auction for summer activities (with
Student Minister)
e. Halloween Outreach Night
f. Operation Christmas Child
g. Easter Egg Hunt/Church Picnic

7. Provide Parent/Child Dedication for families with new babies twice a year. Provide
spiritual training and leadership to parents of preschoolers and children through the
Milestone 1 Seminar.

8. Develop, distribute, and update policies and procedures for preschool and childrens
departments.

9. Coordinate an Effective Day School Ministry


a. Lead the Preschool/Day School Committee
b. Work with the director to maintain a joint effort between program and church.
c. Lead Chapel weekly.
d. Provide a consistent program of outreach to Day School families.

10. Assist the Associate Pastor of Education and Administration in the enlistment of
volunteer workers with preschool and children in church program organizations and serve
as staff leader for said workers.

11. Make recommendations to the Nominating Committee, in consultation with the Associate
Pastor of Education and Administration, regarding the needed workers with preschoolers
and children.

12. Develop and conduct, in cooperation with the Associate Pastor of Education and
Administration, an ongoing program of leadership development for volunteer workers
with preschoolers and children. Such programs should be designed to enrich and
undergird the churchs program organizations and children activities.

13. Coordinate the churchs childrens ministry with associational, state, and convention
programs when deemed appropriate.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Day School Director

2. Hire, train, and oversee childcare workers for Sunday night, Wednesday night, and other
church events.

3. Hire, train, and oversee children interns when added to the church staff.

RELATIONSHIPS

Children and Parent Relationships

1. Develop and nurture relationships with FBC parents.

2. Develop and nurture relationships with Day School parents.

3. Nurture relationships with children by greeting them as they arrive for church activities,
attending their games, concerts, plays, etc. as time allows; being present at their schools;
visiting them and their family members in times of birth, death, hospitalization, or other
need.

4. Counsel children as they desire to make their profession of faith.

5. Implement a consistent plan of communication with children and parents via church
publications, texts, email, social media, mail-outs, etc.

6. Be alert through the ministry to children and the Day School to the discovery of families
who need the ministry of First Baptist Church, to make personal visits in homes of
prospective families with children and in other homes as assigned.

Organizational Relationships

1. Direct the collaboration, cooperation, and coordination among the churchs major areas
of ministry to older preschoolers and children including Sunday School, Missions
Organizations, Graded Choirs, Bible Drill, and Upward.

2. In consultation with the Associate Pastor of Education and Administration, prepare an


annual budget to be recommended to the Finance Committee.

3. Review expenditures in areas assigned responsibility and manage budget expenditures in


those areas.

4. Provide adequate promotion of events, programs, and activities related to areas of work.

5. Serve as a member of the Church Council.

6. Serve as ex-officio member of councils and committees assigned to the Childrens


Minister according to the Committee Assignment Schedule and Pastors discretion.

7. Attend other meetings as requested by the Pastor.

Staff Responsibilities

1. Attend staff meetings

2. Maintain an up-to-date calendar related to the Childrens Ministry and coordinate the
childrens ministry with the calendar and emphases of the church.

3. Comply with all established church policies and procedures as well as all applicable
federal and state laws.

4. Participate in outreach visitation.

5. Be a visible representative of the church at schools, civic events, etc. as desired and as
assigned by the Pastor.

6. Participate in hospital ministry. This schedule may be amended at the discretion of the
ministerial staff.

PERSONAL CONSIDERATIONS

1. Maintain a program of personal and professional development.

2. Maintain a program of study of new methods, plans, and projects related to areas of work.

3. Maintain a personal devotional life and spend a reasonable amount of time with family.

4. Function as a Spirit-filled person, exhibiting submission to the Lord, an adherence to


Bible Study and prayer, and a firm dedication to the ministry.

5. Display an attitude of cooperation, friendliness and helpfulness, along with the fruit of
the Spirit named in Galatians 5:22-23.

6. Think and be creative; determine ways for more effective organization and ministry.

DENOMINATIONAL SERVICE

Schedule and perform Associational, State, and Convention responsibilities as time


permits, as approved by the Pastor.

GENERAL MATTERS

1. Participate in the social life of the church as time permits.

2. Assist other staff members with church-wide projects and with other major projects as
time permits.

3. Fulfill other responsibilities as needed and in response to the initiative of the Pastor.
