Analysis Format

PROBLEM STATEMENT-

The problem is that the Hawaiian Monk Seals have been hunted to the brink of extinction in the late 19th
century. With the Hawaiian monk seals declining since the modern surveying began, biologist predict
this their numbers will dip below 1000 in the next few yrs. Placing them among the worlds most
endangered species.

Purpose/Objective-

My purpose, being an education/public affairs coordinator for a non-profit is to work closely with the
National Marine Fishers Services (NMFS) to support their mission protection the Hawaiian Monk Seal.

Working with the Local communities, stakeholders, and partner agencies to devise a plan to reach the
mass audience/ public that will both educate and enlist aid in protecting the Hawaiian Monk Seal.

To Save the Seals, increase their population and keep tourist at safe distances.

ALTERNATIVE SOLUTIONS-

SOLUTION #1

The first alternative solution in helping these creatures (Hawaiian Monk Seals) is to move them to an
alternative habitat.

PROS.

To remove the seals, would help the fishermen with no more broken nets, or loss of catch,

No more competition with the seals stealing food.

This would help in keeping a safe distance between the locals, population and the seal themselves.

CONS.

Finding a place to move/ hold a large quantity of animals/ Funding

Stress on the seals, may cause them to stop feeding and even lead to death.
SOLUTION #2

Another Solution to increase the declining population of the seals, is to team up with the local Media,
T.V. Radio, Billboards, social media making the public aware of the current crisis.

PRO.

With public awareness the issue can be addressed, Funding can be found, taken off the endangered
species list, sponsors, Endorsements, from celebrities.

CON.

Could also back fire with population, locals wanting to visit, touch the animals, Possible protestors seen
as harmful messing with the natural selection.

RECOMMENDED SOLUTION- The cheapest and most productive to help the seals would be to get ahold
of the media, radio informing the public of the current crisis.

ACTION STEPS-

Explain the current crisis to the public, declining #s of the Hawaiian seals,

Put a safe Zone around the beach, Ocean during feeding, mating seasons,

Sell merchandise that helps save the Hawaiian Monk Seals

Have it make Local news, media, radio, setup a fund me account

Keep the public updated every month with the progress, or any new developments.
