Lesson idea implementation:
For this health lesson I will introduce the project by starting a conversation about what the students believe
is a balanced mean is. I will display the five food groups up on the board with the MyPlate icon of a plate
divided up into the five food groups. On the board I create five columns. I will call on individual students to
write examples under each food group. Once the class has come up with a large variety of food items we will
move on to the students individual assignment. The students will create a diagram of the five food groups.
The diagram will be created within Inspiration. The diagram will center around the child with five branches
coming off of it. Each food group will have three branches coming off of each food group with examples. The
examples the students put on to their diagram will be foods they would eat in their every day lives. This
projects helps the students to make conscious decisions on what all they eat during the day. The diagram will
take the students around 30 minutes to complete.
The students will print their work and turn it in to be graded on their understanding of what foods fit in each
group. If one wanted to continue the lesson and move it into higher level of learning. The students can be
assigned to go home and take pictures recording their meal of a week. The goal is to record their meals
