Jin Shin Jyutsu and Jiro Murai
Jin Shin Jyutsu physio-philosophy is an art which harmonizes the life energy of the body. Jin Shin
Jyutsu was researched and developed by Master Jiro Murai in the early 1900s. After restoring his health
from a terminal illness at age 26, Jiro devoted the rest of his life to studying and understanding the
process that enabled him to regain his health. This was Jiro Murais first glimpse of the keys that he
would refine into the Art of Jin Shin Jyutsu.
Master Murai devoted the rest of his life to the research and development of Jin Shin Jyutsu, gathering
insight from a range of experiences and resources, including the Kojiki (Record of Ancient Things).
The resulting knowledge of Jin Shin Jyutsu was then given to Mary Burmeister, who brought it to the
United States in the 1950s.
Mary Burmeister began teaching the Art to others in the early 1960s, and today there are thousands
of students throughout the United States and around the world.
Jin Shin Jyutsu brings balance to the bodys energy, which promotes optimal health and well-being,
and facilitates our own profound healing capacity. It is a valuable complement to conventional healing
methods, inducing relaxation and reducing the effects of stress.
Jin Shin Jyutsu employs twenty-six Safety Energy Locks along energy pathways that feed life into
our bodies. When one or more of the paths become blocked, the resulting stagnation can disrupt the
local area and eventually disharmonize the complete path of energy flow. Holding these energy locks
in combination can bring balance to mind, body, and spirit.
Learning Jin Shin Jyutsu engages one in self-study, self-help. Through the process of now know myself we recognize the wisdom of
the body, and we learn to interpret the messages provided and utilize them to restore balance.
Jin Shin Jyutsu can be applied as Self-Help and also by a trained practitioner. A Jin Shin Jyutsu session generally lasts about an hour. It
does not involve massage, manipulation of muscles, or use of drugs or substances. It is a gentle art, practiced by placing the fingertips
(over clothing) on designated Safety Energy Locks, to harmonize and restore the energy flow. This facilitates the reduction of tension
and stress which accumulate through normal daily living.
For those of us addressing existing stress or health disharmonies, or for those simply wishing to actively participate in facilitating good
health, harmony and well-being, the Art of Jin Shin Jyutsu is a simple and powerful tool, available to all.
About Mary Burmeister

Mary Burmeister (1918-2008) can be fully credited with bringing Jin Shin Jyutsu to
the West in the 1950s. Her devoted apprenticeship with Jiro Murai and her ensuing
research resulted in broad dissemination of this life-changing Art. Thanks to Mary,
thousands of students worldwide have been exposed to the theoretical and practical
basis of Jin Shin Jyutsu.
Mary practiced what she taught, leaving behind abundant testimonials of how
she lived the smile that she encouraged others to Be. Her office was always busy
with clientele from all corners of the globe, and she worked long hours helping to
harmonize those who came to see her.
Our gratitude to Mary is beyond words. We honor her legacy by continuing to

spread the understanding and practice of Jin Shin Jyutsu throughout the world.

Jin Shin Jyutsu Self-Help Getting to KNOW (Help) MYSELF

As an organization of Jin Shin Jyutsu instructors, we wish to turn the attention of our students, practitioners and clients to the
gift of Jin Shin Jyutsu Self-Help. Self-Help is the birth and core of Jin Shin Jyutsu. Through Self-Help, Jiro Murai first proved the
effectiveness of the Art to himself and from his self-healing, began the journey of its rediscovery. In Self-Help, the student receives
the empowering message through experience that he or she can be self-sufficient.
It was Mary Burmeister who, in years of study and dedication, further condensed the essence of the teachings of the Art into three
simple Self-Help books which, unpretentious and unassuming, provide the student, advanced or neophyte, with the dynamic tools
for self-sufficiency. These books are written from direct experience, they are not intellectual treatises and sometimes confound the
western mind with their simplicity and pensive, slow pace.
In a Self-Help class, the student at once approaches the use and understanding of one or more of these simple, profound books
and through them, the philosophy and the most practical tools of the Art. The tools can then immediately be used for oneself and
family while the philosophy may gently shift ones focus away from the attitudes that keep reproducing the same stresses.
While Self-Help classes are not a prerequisite for attending a five-day basic seminar, we strongly recommend them as a preparation
and introduction. For a list of qualified Self-Help instructors or for a complete listing of Self-Help classes taught by our faculty,

About the 5-Day Basic Seminar
The 5-Day Basic Seminar is for those who want to study and practice Jin Shin Jyutsu and to apply the Art on themselves and others,
being the testimony of this simple, profound Art of Living, made known to us by Mary Burmeister and Jiro Murai.
Each seminar consists of two parts:
Part 1: the foundation, introduces the dynamic qualities of the 26 Safety Energy Locks, the Trinity Flows, the concepts of Depths
within the body, and the Physio-Philosophy of Jin Shin Jyutsu. Interspersed with lecture are ample periods of hands-on application.
Part 2: (prerequisite: Part 1) introduces the 12 organ flows, listening to pulses, the Special Body Flows and how these contribute
to harmonizing body, mind and spirit.
The 5-Day Basic seminar encompasses much of the vast knowledge of Jin Shin Jyutsu. A personal certificate will be awarded to you
attesting that you have completed your first basic 5-day seminar. After completion of three 5-Day seminars, another certificate of
attendance will be awarded. Your certificate for attending three 5-Day seminars indicates that you are at the beginning of a lifetime
of study in the Art of Jin Shin Jyutsu.
For those students considering practicing Jin Shin Jyutsu professionally, before you start we suggest a minimum of 18 months of
study and practice after your first 5-Day seminar and a minimum completion of three 5-Day seminars. Please check with your local
authorities regarding regulations for practicing Jin Shin Jyutsu professionally in your area.

Please Note: As part of our Instructor Training Program, Jin Shin Jyutsu Instructors may periodically have qualified JSJ Instructor
Trainees present short teachings from the 5-Day Class material. The primary instructor will oversee the presentation.
Kato Text 5-Day Seminar

These 5 day seminars are based on Haruki Kato's Texts. Haruki Kato was a direct disciple of Master Jiro Murai and wrote 2 texts
through the window of his experience with Master Murai. His son Sadaki Kato, a faculty member of the Mary Burmeister Institute
will teach these classes, which include tracing the development of JSJ in Japan, reconstructing some of Master Murai's
lectures, hands on practice and demonstrations.
Prerequisites: Seven of the 5-Day Basic Seminars or, Five 5 day seminars, plus a NKM or JC (Journey continues). At the end of this
seminar the student will receive the Kato Text document of attendance.
All 2017 Kato Text classes are listed under the 5 Day Basic seminar calendar, on pages 8 and10.
Now Know Myself Seminar

The purpose of the Now Know Myself Seminar (NKM) is to further examine the wealth of information in Texts 1 and 2 and offer
some new material. This seminar is co-presented by a panel of instructors, whose number will be determined by the number of
students enrolled. Participants experience hands-on daily, both as practitioners and receivers. The primary objective is to enrich each
individuals understanding of the whys and how tos of this beautiful Art with emphasis on the unique concerns of practitioners. It
is an opportunity to develop Jin Shin Jyutsu concepts and practice in a very profound way.
The Now Know Myself seminar complements the fundamental training for anyone aspiring to become a capable Jin Shin Jyutsu
Student Practitioner.
Prerequisites: Three of the 5-Day Basic Seminars. At the end of this seminar the student will receive the Now Know Myself document of attendance.

Jin Shin Jyutsu for All Beings Class

Jin Shin Jyutsu for All Beings is a new seminar that combines Mary Burmeister's Jin Shin Jyutsu 5-Day Basic Seminar with Adele Leas' class, Jin Shin
Jyutsu for Your Animal Companion, merging Jin Shin Jyutsu Physio-Philosophy for humans and for animals into a single seminar for all beings.
The class is seven days long: Part One, the first four days, will cover Text 1, and Part Two, the next three days, will cover Text 2. This will give
students time to practice with each other as well as on some of the many animal species. On a practical level, this class will focus on how to
work with animals and humans in a way that is supportive, caring, and efficient for both practitioner and client. Class includes body reading,
appropriate hand positions, and methods to adapt flows to accommodate size or other variables presented by creatures great and small.
Jin Shin Jyutsu, Inc., will count this class as attendance at one Jin Shin Jyutsu 5-Day Basic Seminar, with the two additional days counted as
attendance at a Special Topic Class. It will also count as one class credit towards the Jin Shin Jyutsu for Your Animal Companion Certification

The Sharing Self-Help newsletter is sent out seasonally. Thank you for your very enthusiastic response. We would love to hear
any experiences you've have had since its publication. We may be able to include them in future newsletters or The Main
Central, as appropriate. If you would like to subscribe yourself or for a friend, please see page 23 to sign up.
In-Touch continues to be distributed each quarter and contains news specific to the Phoenix Valley community such as updates
on classes we run at the office. (e.g., Mentoring, Self-Help...), or any job postings for our office. We always welcome feedback
from the community.

The Living the Art Seminar
Mary Burmeister said that in the awareness of the moment (the breath), ones present state of being will become an Art of LIVING.
The purpose of this seminar is to bring us into this awareness through a detailed exploration of Marys three Self-Help Books and
through practicing the Art of Jin Shin Jyutsu Self-Help. This seminar differs from the Self-Help Class in that the meanings of Marys
words and numbers in the books are presented at a deeper level, creating a bridge of information with Texts 1 and 2 from the 5-Day
Basic Seminar. With this background, students are better prepared to study, practice and perhaps teach Self-Help. Time is allotted for
discussion and refinement of communication skills on selected Jin Shin Jyutsu Self-Help topics.
This seminar involves exploring Jin Shin Jyutsu Self-Help in-depth with Mary Burmeisters three Self-Help Books, revealing all that
Mary has included in these extraordinary books, and becoming more familiar with their contents. This class can deepen ones
understanding and daily practice of the self-help materials. A third objective is to improve our ability to share clearly, simply and
safely the Physio-Philosophy and the Self-Help practice with others (family, friends, clients, groups), privately, in a lecture or Self-
Help class.
All Jin Shin Jyutsu students are encouraged to attend this class. Those wishing to be listed as an authorized Self-Help Instructor on
our Practitioner Locator are required to attend this class at least once.
Prerequisite: Completion of three 5-Day Basic Seminars. Upon completion of your third 5-Day Basic Seminar and your Living the
Art Seminar, you will receive your Living the Art certificate of attendance.

Special Topic Classes
Special Topic Classes give the opportunity to look at a specific Jin Shin Jyutsu subject in a more detailed and profound way. It
offers a chance to study and amplify relationships among the many aspects of Jin Shin Jyutsu, with more interaction between the
students and the instructor. The classes address a variety of topics presented by our faculty who bring their individual awareness
to bear with smaller groups worldwide, with a flexible format which can vary in size, number of days and subject matter, e.g.,
Pulses, Body Reading, The Depths, The Methods of Correction, Astrology, Organ Flows, etc.
Prerequisite (unless otherwise stated) is attendance of at least one 5-Day Basic Seminar.

The Scottsdale Mentoring Program
The Scottsdale Mentoring Program provides in-depth, practical study in a small group setting with an instructor. For one
week (5 days, Monday-Friday), a maximum of 9 student practitioners will gather with one faculty member to participate
each day in eight hours of hands-on, discussion and other study activities.
Location: Jin Shin Jyutsu, Inc. Office, Scottsdale, Arizona
Prerequisite: Check under the Mentoring Classes section on our website as individual Instructors have different
class requirements. However, there is always a minimum of 2 years of Jin Shin Jyutsu practice experience required.

About the Expanded 5-Day Basic Seminar (5 by 3)

This class offers an in-depth study of the 5-Day class material over an extended period of time. This new format will focus on the
study of Text 1 and Text 2, five times a year, three days at a time, for a total of fifteen days ...fifteen days to experience the 5-Day
class material through the three layers of body, mind and spirit...fifteen days for the 15s to be in joy and laughter, to dedicate
ourselves to a divine purpose, to wash our hearts with laughter and to simply BE.
The Physio-Philosophy, Physio-Psychology and Physio-Physiology of Jin Shin Jyutsu will be explored with an emphasis on how to
practice and BE this Art, and how to bring this awareness into our practice with hands-on sessions. Being together as a group five
times in a period of at least five months, will allow us to bring a new depth of understanding into our practice and give us more
time for inner experience and sharing with each other. The flows will be experienced in pairs, to replicate being with a client and to
give and receive each of the flows. We will spend time with the flows to discuss and feel the movement of energy through the body
and explore the jumper cable energy. We will have time to refine our way of touching in the state of Being rather than doing. Body
reading and pulse listening will be part of the class. In addition, flows which are not in the Texts will be presented and practiced
(e.g., the Sinus Flow, Special Immune System Flow, the Regeneration Flow, Special Diabetes Flow, amongst others). Discuss, explore,
experience, practice (DEEP-en) your awareness and understanding, exploring the Art of Jin Shin Jyutsu.
PLEASE NOTE: Starting and finishing times for each 3 day unit may vary from course to course. Each student signs up for each
Instructors complete course. Class size will be maximum 20 with one Instructor and 30 with two Instructors. For further information,

3-Day Mentoring Special Topic Classes
This format is a descendant of the 5-Day Mentoring class held in Scottsdale. Now, offered in the students' or the instructors'
hometown, it will provide an intimate setting (maximum of 9 students) with one instructor, exploring the depths, practical
application, and simplicity of Jin Shin Jyutsu. Each student will receive sessions during the 3-day period. The requirements for
these classes are the same as each individual instructor wants for the 5-Day Mentoring. Any differences will be noted.

This special program is designed to deepen the practitioners understanding and awareness of Marys philosophy, which becomes the bridge in
transitioning from theory and technique to practice and application. Each day will begin with meditation followed immediately by hands-on. After a
short break, a presentation will be offered on Marys philosophy-its roots, lineage, traditions and major texts she studied. Then, an interactive discussion
will begin with the basic frames of references: The Answer Sheet, Order of Listening to Pulses, Order of Creation, Lumbar Circle, Depth Qualities. The
program then shifts in the afternoon from theory and lecture to practice and application of the material through pulse listening, body reading and
case study discussion. The daily program ends with the second hands-on.
This Mentoring program is limited to nine students. Students must have at least three 5-Day classes. However, what is more important
than the number of classes is the sincerity of the student. This program is all about the legacy of Master Jiro Murai and Mary Burmeister.
This program is about developing the awareness to be a key holder and gatekeeper.

Mary Burmeister Jin Shin Jyutsu Outreach
The Mary Burmeister-Jin Shin Jyutsu Foundation and Outreach was founded in 2001. The MBJSJO is fiscally sponsored by the United Charitable
which is a registered 501 (C) (3) public charity. The purpose is to expand the work of Mary Burmeister and the art of Jin Shin Jyutsu Physio-Philosophy
through contributions that support medical research; educational development that creates different avenues of presentation including language
translations, implementation of scholarships that base selection on merit, need or minority status; selection of individuals to receive Jin Shin Jyutsu
treatments; financial support for Jin Shin Jyutsu associations, seminars, correspondence courses and outreach programs to developing countries.
The Mary Burmeister-Jin Shin Jyutsu Outreach offers tuition assistance for 5-Day Basic Seminars in the form of partial and full tuition grants to
low income individuals. Since joining with the United Charitable Program in 2011 the MBJSJO has given over 90 grants that total nearly $68,000
in grant funds. Grants have been awarded in the United States in AZ, CA, CO, DC, FL, HI, IA, KS, KY, MA, MI, MO, NC, NJ, NY, OH, OR, TN, TX,
VT, WA and WI. Grants have also been given outside of the US in Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, Egypt, England, Germany,
India, Israel, Latvia, Philippines, South Africa and the Netherlands. In 2015 we awarded $6,000 in grant funds and in 2016 we have awarded
just over $7,000 in grant funds.
The Mary Burmeister-Jin Shin Jyutsu Outreach is giving free educational self-help DVDs to low income individuals, practitioners who work
with low income individuals and organizations that serve low income individuals. The DVD is titled Simply Help Yourself and it shows self-help
exercises for minimizing side effects of conventional medical treatment, information about our fingers and hands, self-help exercises for general
harmony and exercises that can be done with a partner. To receive a Simply Help Yourself DVD, send a written inquiry with information about
yourself, or your organization to the Mary Burmeister-Jin Shin Jyutsu Outreach. Any donor who contributes $60 or more will receive a free copy
of the DVD as a token for their gift.
We are pleased to announce a new grant that we have available for hearing impaired students. Beginning this year and through 2019 we will
award grant funds to students who apply for grant assistance that meet our requirements and have a hearing impairment. The grant pays for
tuition assistance and will provide for a signer in a 5-Day Basic Seminar. We would like to acknowledge and thank Connie Rubin and the Elsie

Students interested in Nursing CEUs and Acupuncture CEUs or PDA points as well as Asian Bodywork Therapy PDA points: Notify the organizer
2 weeks before the first day of class. A small fee will be charged for administering most continuing education programs and letters of verification.
Nurses and Acupuncturists: Bring your license number to class. All paperwork for all continuing education programs is to be filled out, and
together with fees (if applicable), given to the organizer before the end of class. Fees are made payable to Jin Shin Jyutsu, Inc. Karen Moore, and

NURSING CEUs: Jin Shin Jyutsu, Inc. is an approved provider for California Board of Registered Nursing Provider #CEP 12032. Approved classes:

No Special Topic Classes or Mentoring Classes are approved at this time.

NCCAOM PDA points (National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine): PDA points are offered to
Acupuncturists and Asian Bodywork Therapists for the 5-Day Basic Seminar parts 1 and 2, the 5-Day Kato Text Training, the
Special Topic Class: The Art of Being a Practitioner and the Living the Art Seminar Approved Provider #ACHB-238. There is no
charge to the applicant for this service.
MASSAGE THERAPY CE Hours: Jin Shin Jyutsu, Inc. is approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage &
Bodywork (NCBTMB) as a continuing education Approved Provider #285604-00. These CE Hours can only be issued for massage
therapists who are certified by NCBTMB. A $10 fee per class is charged for this documentation. Massage therapists who are not
certified by NCBTMB can request a Letter of Verification.
LETTERS OF VERIFICATION: We can provide a letter of verification of attendance stating class hours, to any student attending
class ($15 each request). We cannot guarantee that your licensing agency will recognize Jin Shin Jyutsu class hours.
ABMP Membership Insurance

Jin Shin Jyutsu, Inc., is a member of Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals' Affinity Membership
Program. This allows us to offer a $24 discount to our community for any level of membership with ABMP. The
rates quoted below are the discounted rates for 2017.
Students who have completed a minimum of 105 hours of Jin Shin Jyutsu training and have received their
certificate are eligible for ABMP membership, including insurance. The annual discounted Practitioner level

In addition to a Basic Seminar, the application form below may be used for any of the classes offered. Please clearly specify
the title, instructor, and date of the seminar desired. For information about a specific class, please contact the organizer listed
on the schedule for that class. Class organizers are also Jin Shin Jyutsu students and practitioners.
Early registration is greatly appreciated as it assists the organizers in determining classroom size. We encourage payment in full,
four (4) weeks prior to class.
Early Bird (EB) rates are now offered in various countries for the 5-Day Basic Seminar, Living the Art Seminar, Special Topic Classes,
and the Now Know Myself Seminar. Please check the TUITIONS section of our website. Terms and conditions of Early Bird (EB)
rates: Must be paid in full at least 60 days in advance of class.

REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICY: Should a student need to cancel, a deposit is refundable until 30 days prior to the seminar. Any additional

The Scottsdale Office is offering both a U.S. and International listing service for those Jin Shin Jyutsu students who have taken a
minimum of 3 five-day classes (with the passage of a minimum of 18 months since attending their first class), who will continue
deepening their understanding by attending Jin Shin Jyutsu classes on an ongoing basis. These listings replace our practitioner lists
at the office. This makes it easy to look up Jin Shin Jyutsu contacts anywhere in the U.S. or Internationally, many of whom offer
Self-Help classes. Refer to our website www.jsjinc.net > Find a Practitioner. To list yourself, please sign up on the website. The
new applicant fee is $26 per year. Renewal fees for existing listings are $20 per year when the original listing expires. Postcards
