REFRIGERATION AND HVAC

PROJECT I

Due date: May 17, 2016

An air conditioner is used to keep a room at 26C by rejecting the waste heat to the outside air
at 34C. The room is gaining heat through the walls and the windows at a rate of 250 kJ/min
while the heat generated by the computer, TV, and lights amounts to 900 W. 670 W of heat is
also generated by the people in the room. Determine cooling load of the room.
a) Select an appropriate commercial compressor from a domestic or foreign
manufacturer. Add original company datasheet of the compressor to your report. The
datasheet must include technical features of the compressor. Specify the refrigerant
fluid.
b) Select an appropriate capacity of evaporator from a commercial company with
product datasheet which include technical specifications.
c) Select an appropriate capacity of air-cooled condenser from a commercial company
with product datasheet which include technical specifications.

In your report,
- Specify condenser and evaporator pressures
- Specify refrigerant mass flow rate
- Specify power of compressor
- Specify COP of the refrigeration unit
- Plot T-s diagram.
- Sketch refrigeration unit with its components.
