What has God put into human beings “hearts”? How can God use human labor?
Ecclesiastes 3:9-15
9 What does the worker gain from his toil?
10 I have seen the burden God has laid on men.
11 He [God] has made everything beautiful in its time.
Also He has put eternity in their hearts,
except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.
12 I know that nothing is better for them than to rejoice, and to do good in their lives,
13 and also that every man should eat and drink and enjoy the good of all his labor--
it is the gift of God.
14 I know that whatever God does, it shall be forever.
Nothing can be added to it, and nothing taken from it.
God does it, that men should fear before Him.
15 That which is has already been, and what is to be has already been;
and God requires an account of what is past.

What does knowing that there will be life after physical death mean personally to you?
Ecclesiastes 12:1-7
1 Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth,
before the difficult days come,
and the years draw near when you say, “I have no pleasure in them”:
2 while the sun and the light, the moon, and the stars are not darkened,
and the clouds do not return after the rain;
3 in the day when the keepers of the house tremble and the strong men bow down;
when the grinders cease because
they are few and
those that look through the windows grow dim;
4 when the doors are shut in the streets, and the sound of grinding is low;
when one rises up at the sound of a bird,
and all the daughters of music are brought low;
also they are afraid of height and of terrors in the way;
5 when the almond tree blossoms, the grasshopper is a burden, and desire fails.
For man goes to his eternal home and the mourners go about the streets.
6 Remember your Creator before
the silver cord is loosed or
the golden bowl is broken, or
the pitcher shattered at the fountain, or
the wheel broken at the well.

1
7 Then
the dust will return to the Earth as it was, and
the spirit will return to God Who gave it.

What were Israel’s forever blessings from God?

(7 items for the future after the Second Coming for believing Jews)
Isaiah 60:15-22
15 “Whereas you have been forsaken and hated so that no one went through you,
I will make you an eternal excellence, a joy of many generations.
16 You shall drink the milk of the Gentiles and milk the breast of kings;
you shall know that I, the Lord,
am your Savior and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.
17 Instead of bronze I will bring gold, instead of iron I will bring silver,
instead of wood, bronze, and instead of stones, iron.
18 I will also make your officers peace, and your magistrates righteousness.
Violence shall no longer be heard in your land,
neither wasting nor destruction within your borders;
you shall call your walls Salvation, and your gates Praise.
19 The sun shall no longer be your light by day,
nor for brightness shall the moon give light to you;
but the Lord will be to you an everlasting light, and your God your glory.
20 Your sun shall no longer go down, nor shall your moon withdraw itself;
for the Lord will be your everlasting light,
and the days of your mourning shall be ended.
21 Also your people shall all be righteous;
they shall inherit the land forever, the branch of My planting,
the work of My hands,
that I may be glorified.
22 A little one shall become a thousand, and a small one a strong nation.
I, the Lord, will hasten it in its time.”

What does it mean “Who inhabits eternity” and “I will not contend forever” mean?
Isaiah 57:13-16
13 When you cry out, “Let your collection of idols deliver you.”
But the wind will carry them all away,
a breath will take them.
But he who puts his trust in Me shall possess the land,
and shall inherit My holy mountain.
14 And One shall say, “Heap it up! Heap it up!
Prepare the way, take the stumbling block out of the way of My people.”
15 For thus says the High and Lofty One
Who inhabits eternity, Whose name is Holy:
“I dwell in the high and holy place,
with him who has a contrite and humble spirit,
to revive the spirit of the humble and
to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
16 For I will not contend forever, nor will I always be angry;
for the spirit would fail before Me, and the souls which I have made.

What are two false hopes about lasting forever? What can’t a rich man do?
Psalms 49:6-14
6 Those who trust in their wealth and boast in the multitude of their riches,
7 none of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him--

2
8
9 for the redemption of their souls
is costly, and it
shall cease forever--
10 that he should continue to live eternally, and not see the Pit.
11 For he sees wise men die; likewise the fool and the senseless person perish,
and leave their wealth to others.
12 Their inner thought is that their houses will last forever,
their dwelling places to all generations;
they call their lands after their own names.
12 Nevertheless man, though in honor, does not remain;
he is like the beasts that perish.
13 This is the way of those who are foolish,
and of their posterity who approve their sayings. Selah
14 Like sheep
they are laid in the grave;
death shall feed on them;
the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and
their beauty shall be consumed in the grave, far from their dwelling.

How can religious people get false assurance of having eternal life even from their reading of the
Bible?
John 5:31-47
31 “If I bear witness of Myself, My witness is not true.
32 There is another who bears witness of Me,
and I know that the witness which He witnesses of Me is true.
33 You have sent to John, and he has borne witness to the truth.
34 Yet I do not receive testimony from man,
but I say these things that you may be saved.
35 He was the burning and shining lamp,
and you were willing for a time to rejoice in his light.
36 But I have a greater witness than John's;
for the works which the Father has given Me to finish-- the very works that I do--
bear witness of Me, that the Father has sent Me.
37 And the Father Himself, Who sent Me, has testified of Me.
You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form.
38 But you do not have His word abiding in you,
because whom He sent, Him you do not believe.
39 You search the Scriptures,
for in them you think you have eternal life;
and these are they which testify of Me.
40 But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.
41 I do not receive honor from men.
42 But I know you,
that you do not have the love of God in you.
43 I have come in My Father's name,
and you do not receive Me;
if another comes in his own name,
him you will receive.
44 How can you believe, who receive honor from one another,
and do not seek the honor that comes from the only God?
45 Do not think that I shall accuse you to the Father;
there is one who accuses you--
Moses, in whom you trust.
3
46 For if you believed Moses,
you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me.
47 But if you do not believe his writings,
how will you believe My words?”

What is the most important way to inherit eternal life with God?
Luke 10:25-37
25 And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying,
“Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”
26 He said to him, “What is written in the Law? What is your reading of it?”
27 So he answered and said, “‘You shall love
the Lord your God
with all your heart,
with all your soul,
with all your strength, and
with all your mind,’
and ‘your neighbor as yourself’.”
28 And He said to him,
“You have answered rightly;
do this and you will live.”
29 But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
30 Then Jesus answered and said:
“A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell among thieves,
who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
31 Now by chance a certain priest came down that road.
And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
32 Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the place, came and looked,
and passed by on the other side.
33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was.
And when he saw him, he had compassion.
34 So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine;
and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
35 On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper,
and said to him, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend,
when I come again, I will repay you.’
36 So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?”
37 And he said, “He who showed mercy on him.”
Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”

What two other requirements are for one to be rewarded eternal life in the future?
John 3:1-21
1 There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.
2 This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him,
“Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God,
for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.”
3 Jesus answered and said to him,
“Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again,
he [or she] cannot see the Kingdom of God.”
4 Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old?
Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?”
5 Jesus answered,
“Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the [Holy] Spirit,
he cannot enter the Kingdom of God.

4
6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the [Holy] Spirit is spirit.
7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’
8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it,
but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes.
So is everyone who is born of the [Holy] Spirit.”
9 Nicodemus answered and said to Him, “How can these things be?”
10 Jesus answered and said to him,
“Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things?
11 Most assuredly, I say to you,
We speak what We know and testify what We have seen,
and you do not receive Our witness.
12 If I have told you Earthly things and you do not believe,
how will you believe if I tell you Heavenly things?
13 No one has ascended to Heaven but He who came down from Heaven,
that is, the Son of Man Who is in Heaven.
14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness,
even so must the Son of Man be lifted up,
15 that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world,
but that the world through Him might be saved.
18 He [or she] who believes in Him is not condemned;
but he [or she] who does not believe is condemned already,
because he [or she] has not believed in the Name of the only begotten Son of God.
19 And this is the condemnation, that
the Light has come into the world and
men loved darkness rather than Light,
because their deeds were evil.
20 For everyone practicing evil hates the Light
and does not come to the Light,
lest his deeds should be exposed.
21 But he [or she] who does the truth comes to the Light,
that his [or her] deeds may be clearly seen,
that they have been done in God.”

What was repeated by Jesus and how many times?

John 6:28-71
28 Then they [some of those in the feeding of the 5000 men miracle] said to Him [Jesus],
“What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?”
29 Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.”
30 Therefore they said to Him,
“What sign will You perform then that we may see it and believe You?
What work will You do?
31 Our fathers ate the manna in the desert;
as it is written, ‘He gave them bread from Heaven to eat.’”
32 Then Jesus said to them,
“Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from Heaven,
but My Father gives you the true Bread from Heaven.
33 For The Bread of God is He Who comes down from Heaven
and gives life to the world.”
34 Then they said to Him, “Lord, give us this bread always.”

5
35 And Jesus said to them, “I am The Bread Of Life.
He [or she] who comes to Me shall never hunger,
and he [or she] who believes in Me shall never thirst.
36 But I said to you that you have seen Me and yet do not believe.
37 All that the Father gives Me will come to Me,
and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out.
38 For I have come down from Heaven, not to do My own will,
but the will of Him Who sent Me.
39 This is the will of the Father Who sent Me,
that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing,
but should raise it up at the Last Day.
40 And this is the will of Him Who sent Me,
that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him
may have everlasting life;
and I will raise him [or her] up at the Last Day."
41 The Jews then complained about Him because He said,
“I am the Bread which came down from Heaven.”
42 And they said, “Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know?
How is it then that He says, ‘I have come down from Heaven’?”
43 Jesus therefore answered and said to them, “Do not murmur among yourselves.
44 No one can come to Me unless the Father Who sent Me draws him [or her];
and I will raise him [or her]; up at the Last Day.
45 It is written in the prophets, ‘And they shall all be taught by God.’
Therefore everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to Me.
46 Not that anyone has seen the Father, except He Who is from God;
He has seen the Father.
47 Most assuredly, I say to you, he [or she] who believes in Me has everlasting life.
48 I am The Bread Of Life.
49 Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and are dead.
50 This is the bread which comes down from Heaven,
that one may eat of it and not die.
51 I am The Living Bread which came down from Heaven.
If anyone eats of this Bread, he [or she] will live forever;
and the bread that I shall give is My flesh,
which I shall give for the life of the world.”
52 The Jews therefore quarreled among themselves, saying,
“How can this Man give us His flesh to eat?”
53 Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you,
unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood,
you have no life in you.
54 Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life,
and I will raise him up at the Last Day.
55 For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed.
56 He [or she] who eats My flesh and drinks My blood
abides in Me, and I in him.
57 As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father,
so he [or she] who feeds on Me will live because of Me.
58 This is The Bread which came down from Heaven--
not as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead.
He [or she] who eats this Bread will live forever.”
59 These things He said in the synagogue as He taught in Capernaum.
60 Therefore many of His disciples, when they heard this, said,
“This is a hard saying; who can understand it?”

6
61 When Jesus knew in Himself that His disciples complained about this,
He said to them, “Does this offend you?
62 What then if you should see the Son of Man ascend where He was before?
63 It is the [Holy] Spirit who gives life;
the flesh profits nothing.
The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.
64 But there are some of you who do not believe.”
For Jesus knew from the beginning
who they were who did not believe, and
who would betray Him.
65 And He said, “Therefore I have said to you
that no one can come to Me
unless it has been granted to him [or her] by My Father.”
66 From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more.
67 Then Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you also want to go away?”
68 But Simon Peter answered Him,
“Lord, to whom shall we go?
You have the words of eternal life.
69 Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
70 Jesus answered them,
“Did I not choose you, the twelve,
and one of you is a devil?”
71 He spoke of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon,
for it was he who would betray Him, being one of the twelve.

What do “eternal salvation”, “eternal redemption”, “through the eternal [Holy] Spirit”, “eternal
inheritance” mean? What was required for human beings to be able to be rewarded eternal life in the
future
Hebrews 5:1-9
1 For every high priest taken from among men is appointed for men in things pertaining to God,
that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins.
2 He can have compassion on those who are ignorant and going astray,
since he himself is also subject to weakness.
3 Because of this he is required as for the people, so also for himself,
to offer sacrifices for sins.
4 And no man takes this honor to himself,
but he who is called by God, just as Aaron was.
5 So also Christ did not glorify Himself to become High Priest,
but it was He Who said to Him:
“You are My Son,
today I have begotten You.”
6 As He also says in another place:
“You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek”;
7 Who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications,
with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death,
and was heard because of His Godly fear,
8 though He was a Son,
yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered.
9 And having been perfected,
He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him.

7
Hebrews 9:11-22
11 But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come,
with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands,
that is, not of this creation.
12 Not with the blood of goats and calves,
but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all,
having obtained eternal redemption.
13 For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer,
sprinkling the unclean,
sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh,
14 how much more shall the blood of Christ,
Who through the eternal [Holy] Spirit offered Himself
without spot to God,
cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
15 And for this reason He is the Mediator of the New Covenant,
by means of death,
for the redemption of the transgressions under the First Covenant,
that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.
16 For where there is a testament,
there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.
17 For a testament is in force after men are dead,
since it has no power at all while the testator lives.
18 Therefore not even the First Covenant was dedicated without blood.
19 For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people
according to the Law,
he took the blood of calves and goats, with water, scarlet wool, and hyssop,
and sprinkled both the Book itself and all the people, saying,
20 “This is the blood of the covenant which God has commanded you.”
21 Then likewise he sprinkled with blood
both the tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry.
22 And according to the Law almost all things are purified with blood,
and without shedding of blood there is no remission.

What was the main reason for many Jews with early Christian teaching? God allows for _________
____________ in believing. What does the word “appointed” and “known to God from eternity
mean?
Acts 13:42-52
42 So when the Jews went out of the synagogue,
the Gentiles begged that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath.
43 Now when the congregation had broken up,
many of the Jews and devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas,
who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.
44 On the next Sabbath almost the whole city came together to hear the word of God.
45 But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy;
and contradicting and blaspheming, they opposed the things spoken by Paul.
46 Then Paul and Barnabas grew bold and said,
“It was necessary that the word of God should be spoken to you first;
but since you reject it, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life,
behold, we turn to the Gentiles.
47 For so the Lord has commanded us:
‘I have set you as a light to the Gentiles,
that you should be for salvation to the ends of the Earth.’”
48 Now when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of the Lord.
And as many as had been appointed to eternal life believed.
8
49 And the word of the Lord was being spread throughout all the region.
50 But the Jews
stirred up the devout and prominent women and the chief men of the city,
raised up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and
expelled them from their region.
51 But they [Paul and Barnabas] shook off the dust from their feet against them,
and came to Iconium.
52 And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.
Acts 15:6-20
6 Now the apostles and elders came together to consider this matter.
7 And when there had been much dispute, Peter rose up and said to them:
“Men and brethren, you know that a good while ago God chose among us,
that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the Gospel and believe.
8 So God, Who knows the heart,
acknowledged them by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He did to us,
9 and made no distinction between us and them,
purifying their hearts by faith.
10 Now therefore, why do you test God
by putting a yoke on the neck of the disciples
which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?
11 But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ
we shall be saved in the same manner as they.”
12 Then all the multitude kept silent
and listened to Barnabas and Paul declaring how many miracles and wonders
God had worked through them among the Gentiles.
13 And after they [Barnabas and Paul ] had become silent, James answered, saying,
“Men and brethren, listen to me:
14 Simon has declared how God at the first visited the Gentiles
to take out of them a people for His name.
15 And with this the words of the prophets agree, just as it is written:
16 ‘After this I will return and will rebuild the tabernacle of David,
which has fallen down;
I will rebuild its ruins, and I will set it up;
17 So that the rest of mankind may seek the Lord,
even all the Gentiles who are called by My name,
says the Lord Who does all these things.’
18 Known to God from eternity are all His works.
19 Therefore I judge that we should not trouble those from among the Gentiles
who are turning to God,
20 but that we write to them to abstain
from things polluted by idols,
from sexual immorality,
from things strangled, and
from blood.”

How do 1 Corinthians 3:9-15 and Ephesians 2:8-10 relate to this passage?

Romans 2:1-16
1 Therefore you are inexcusable, O man, whoever you are who judge,
for in whatever you judge another you condemn yourself;
for you who judge practice the same things.
2 But we know that the judgment of God is according to truth
against those who practice such things.

9
3 And do you think this,
Oh man, you who judge those practicing such things, and doing the same,
that you will escape the judgment of God?
4 Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering,
not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?
5 But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart
you are treasuring up for yourself
wrath in the day of wrath and
revelation of the righteous judgment of God,
6 Who “will render to each one according to his [or her] deeds”:
7 eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good
seek for glory, honor, and immortality;
8 but to those who are self-seeking
and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness--
indignation and wrath,
9 tribulation and anguish,
on every soul of man who does evil,
of the Jew first and also of the Greek;
10 but glory, honor, and peace to everyone who works what is good,
to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
11 For there is no partiality with God.
12 For as many as have sinned without law will also perish without law,
and as many as have sinned in the Law will be judged by the Law
13 (for not the hearers of the Law are just in the sight of God,
but the doers of the Law will be justified;
14 for when Gentiles, who do not have the Law,
by nature do the things in the Law,
these, although not having the Law,
are a law to themselves,
15 who show the work of the Law written in their hearts,
their conscience also bearing witness,
and between themselves their thoughts
accusing or else excusing them)
16 in the day when God will judge the secrets of men
by Jesus Christ, according to my Gospel.

What is the three-part willingness requirement for gaining eternal life?

Mark 10:17-18
17 Now as He [Jesus Christ] was going out on the road,
18 one came running, knelt before Him, and asked Him,
“Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?”
Matthew 19:17-20
17 So He said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God.
But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”
18 He said to Him, “Which ones?”
Jesus said, “‘you shall not murder’, ‘you shall not commit adultery’, ‘you shall not steal’,
19 ‘you shall not bear false witness’, ‘honor your father and your mother’,
and ‘you shall love your neighbor as yourself’.”
20 The young man said to Him, “All these things I have kept from my youth.
What do I still lack?”

10
Mark 10:21c-31
21 Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him,
“One thing you lack:
Go your way,
sell whatever you have and
give to the poor, and you will have treasure in Heaven; and
come, take up the cross, and
follow Me."
22 But he was sad at this word, and went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.
23 Then Jesus looked around and said to His disciples,
“How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the Kingdom of God!”
24 And the disciples were astonished at His words.
But Jesus answered again and said to them,
“Children, how hard it is for those who trust in riches to enter the Kingdom of God!
25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle
than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God.”
26 And they were greatly astonished, saying among themselves, “Who then can be saved?”
27 But Jesus looked at them and said,
“With men it is impossible, but not with God;
for with God all things are possible.”
28 Then Peter began to say to Him, “See, we have left all and followed You.”
29 So Jesus answered and said,
“Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one
who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother
or wife or children or lands,
for My sake and the Gospel's,
30 who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time--
houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands,
with persecutions--
and in the age to come, eternal life.
31 But many who are first will be last, and the last first.”

How does one love his or her life and loose it for eternal life? How does one hate his or her life in this
world? How does one serve Jesus Christ?
John 12:20-26
20 Now there were certain Greeks among those who came up to worship at the feast.
21 Then they came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying,
“Sir, we wish to see Jesus.”
22 Philip came and told Andrew, and in turn Andrew and Philip told Jesus.
22 But Jesus answered them, saying,
“The hour has come that the Son of Man should be glorified.
24 Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies,
it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.
25 He [or she] who loves his [or her] life will lose it,
and he [or she] who hates his [or her] life in this world will keep it for eternal life.
26 If anyone serves Me, let him [or her] follow Me;
and where I am, there My servant will be also.
If anyone serves Me, him [or her] My Father will honor.”

What is promised for the compassionate unselfish people?
What is promised for the uncompassionate selfish people?
Matthew 25:31-46
31 “When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him,
then He will sit on the throne of His glory.
32 All the nations will be gathered before Him,
and He will separate them one from another,
as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats.
33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left.
34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand,
‘Come, you blessed of My Father,
inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
35 because when
I was hungry and you gave Me food;
I was thirsty and you gave Me drink;
I was a stranger and you took Me in;
36 I was naked and you clothed Me;
I was sick and you visited Me;
I was in prison and you came to Me.’
37 Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord,
when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink?
38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You?
39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’
40 And the King will answer and say to them,
‘Assuredly, I say to you,
inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren,
you did it to Me.’
41 Then He will also say to those on the left hand,
‘Depart from Me, you cursed,
into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:
42 because when
I was hungry and you gave Me no food;
I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink;
43 I was a stranger and you did not take Me in,
[I was] naked and you did not clothe Me,
[I was] sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’
44 Then they also will answer Him, saying,
‘Lord, when did we see
You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison,
and did not minister to You?’
45 Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you,
inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these,
you did not do it to Me.’
46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment,
but the righteous into eternal life.”

How does Jesus Christ insure eternal life for believers?

John 10:22-38
22 Now it was the Feast of Dedication in Jerusalem, and it was winter.
23 And Jesus walked in the temple, in Solomon's porch.
24 Then the Jews surrounded Him and said to Him,
“How long do You keep us in doubt?
If You are the Christ, tell us plainly.”

12
25 Jesus answered them,
“I told you, and you do not believe.
The works that I do in My Father's name,
they bear witness of Me.
26 But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, as I said to you.
27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.
28 And I give them eternal life, and
they shall never perish;
neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.
29 My Father, Who has given them to Me, is greater than all;
and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father's hand.
30 I and My Father are one.”
31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone Him.
32 Jesus answered them,
“Many good works I have shown you from My Father.
For which of those works do you stone Me?"
33 The Jews answered Him, saying,
“For a good work we do not stone You,
but for blasphemy, and
because you, being a man, make yourself God.”
34 Jesus answered them,
“Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, “you are gods”’?
35 If He called them gods, to whom the word of God came
(and the Scripture cannot be broken),
36 do you say of Him whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world,
‘You are blaspheming’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’?
37 If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me;
38 but if I do, though you do not believe Me, believe the works,
that you may know and believe that the Father is in Me, and I in Him.”

How can you absolutely and experientially know that you will have eternal life?
1 John 2:21-27
21 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth,
but because you know it,
and that no lie is of the truth.
22 Who is a liar but he [or she] who denies that Jesus is the Christ?
He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son.
23 Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father either;
he [or she] who acknowledges the Son has the Father also.
24 Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning.
If what you heard from the beginning abides in you,
you also will abide in the Son and in the Father.
25 And this is the promise that He has promised us-- eternal life.
26 These things I have written to you concerning those who try to deceive you.
27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you,
and you do not need that anyone teach you;
but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things,
and is true, and is not a lie,
and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.
1 John 5:10-13 & 20
10 He [or she] who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself [or herself];
he [or she] who does not believe God has made Him a liar,
because he [or she] has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son.

13
11 And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life,
and this life is in His Son.
12 He [or she] who has the Son has life;
he [or she] who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God,
that you may know that you have eternal life,
and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.
20 And we know that the Son Of God has come and has given us an understanding,
that we may know Him who is true;
and we are in Him Who is true,
in His Son Jesus Christ.
This is the true God and eternal life.

What should a Christian do knowing that he or she has eternal life in the future? (6 major things)
Jude 1:20-23
20 But you, beloved,
building yourselves up on your most holy faith,
praying in the Holy Spirit,
21 keep yourselves in the love of God,
looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
22 And on some have compassion,
making a distinction;
23 but others save with fear,
pulling them out of the fire,
hating even the garment defiled by the flesh.

What do you think “the hour” for the special divine glorification of Jesus Christ was and how does
that relate to eternal life for believers of what His death on the Cross did for them?
John 17:1-5
1 Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to Heaven, and said:
Father, the hour has come.
Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You,
2 as You have given Him authority over all flesh,
that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him.
3 And this is eternal life, that they may know
You, the only true God, and
Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
4 I have glorified You on the Earth.
I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.
5 And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself,
with the glory which I had with You before the world was.

What kind of lifestyle will true believers have when living after the Age of Grace in their eternal lives?
Romans 5:18-21
18 Therefore, as through one man's offense judgment came to all men [and women],
resulting in condemnation,
even so through one Man's righteous act the free gift came to all men,
resulting in justification of life.
19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners,
so also by one Man's obedience many will be made righteous.

14
20 Moreover the Law entered that the offense might abound.
But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more,
21 so that as sin reigned in death,
even so grace might reign through righteousness
to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 6:18-23
18 And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.
19 I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh.
For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness,
and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness,
so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness.
20 For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness.
21 What fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed?
For the end of those things is death.
22 But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God,
you have your fruit to holiness,
and the end, everlasting life.
23 For the wages of sin is death,
but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Titus 1:1-3
1 Paul, a bondservant of God and an Apostle of Jesus Christ,
according to
the faith of God's elect and
the acknowledgment of the truth
which accords with Godliness,
2 in hope of eternal life
which God, Who cannot lie,
promised before time began,
3 but has in due time manifested His word through preaching,
which was committed to me according to the commandment of God our Savior;
Titus 3:1-8
1 Remind them
to be subject to rulers and authorities,
to obey, to be ready for every good work,
2 to speak evil of no one,
to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men.
3 For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived,
serving various lusts and pleasures,
living in malice and envy,
hateful and hating one another.
4 But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared,
5 not by works of righteousness which we have done,
but according to His mercy He saved us,
through the washing of regeneration
and renewing of the Holy Spirit,
6 Whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior,
7 that having been justified by His grace
we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
8 This is a faithful saying,
and these things I want you to affirm constantly,
that those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works.
These things are good and profitable to men.

15
What does “lay hold on eternal life” mean?
What does “storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come” mean?
1 Timothy 6:6-21
6 Now Godliness with contentment is great gain.
7 For we brought nothing into this world,
and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
8 And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.
9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare,
and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition.
10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil,
for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness,
and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
11 But you, O man of God,
flee these things and
pursue righteousness, Godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.
12 Fight the good fight of faith,
lay hold on eternal life,
to which you
were also called and
have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
13 I urge you in the sight of God
Who gives life to all things, and
Who witnessed the good confession of Christ Jesus before Pontius Pilate,
14 that you keep this commandment
without spot,
blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ's appearing,
15 which He will manifest in His own time,
He Who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords,
16 Who alone has immortality,
dwelling in unapproachable light,
Whom no man has seen or can see,
to Whom be honor and everlasting power. Amen.
17 Command those who are rich in this present age
not to be haughty,
nor to trust in uncertain riches
but in the living God,
Who gives us richly all things to enjoy.
18 Let them do good,
that they be rich in good works,
ready to give,
willing to share,
19 storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come,
that they may lay hold on eternal life.
20 O Timothy!
Guard what was committed to your trust,
avoiding the profane and idle babblings
and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge--
21 by professing it some have strayed concerning the faith.
Grace be with you. Amen.

16
How does one gather fruit for eternal life?
John 4:27-42
27 And at this point His disciples came and they marveled that He talked with a woman;
yet no one said, “What do You seek?” or, “Why are You talking with her?”
28 The woman then left her waterpot, went her way into the city, and said to the men,
29 “Come, see a Man who told me all things that I ever did. Could this be the Christ?”
30 Then they went out of the city and came to Him.
31 In the meantime His disciples urged Him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.”
32 But He said to them, “I have food to eat of which you do not know.”
33 Therefore the disciples said to one another, “Has anyone brought Him anything to eat?”
34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.”
Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest?’
35 Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields,
for they are already white for harvest!
36 And he [or she] who reaps receives wages and gathers fruit for eternal life,
that both he [or she] who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together.
37 For in this the saying is true: ‘One sows and another reaps.’
38 I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored;
others have labored, and you have entered into their labors.”
39 And many of the Samaritans of that city believed in Him
because of the word of the woman who testified, “He told me all that I ever did.”
40 So when the Samaritans had come to Him, they urged Him to stay with them;
and He stayed there two days.
41 And many more believed because of His own word.
42 Then they said to the woman,
“Now we believe,
not because of what you said,
for we ourselves have heard Him
and we know that this is indeed the Christ,
the Savior of the world.”

What else is to be for eternity? How do you personally relate to this passage of Scripture? Be specific
please.
1 Peter 5:5-11
5 Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders.
Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility,
for “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God,
that He may exalt you in due time,
7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
8 Be sober, be vigilant;
because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion,
seeking whom he may devour.
9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith,
knowing that the same sufferings are experienced
by your brotherhood in the world.
10 But may the God of all grace,
Who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus,
after you have suffered a while,
perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.
11 To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

How does God get glory forever?

How was Jesus Christ perfected forever? (Reread Hebrews 7:28 and the context; think about the
human experience of Jesus.)
How did this study help you understand “eternal” or “eternity” better? Why is it difficult to
understand the eternal life reward for believing the Gospel?

Fourth Part:
Directions: Think about what “eternal life” means by looking at some verses which have the phrase
“everlasting life” in them. Write down why you think I bolded certain words and
phrases. Also write why you think that the phrase “everlasting life” easier to
understand than the phrase “eternal life

Romans 6:22-23--
“But now
having been set free from sin, and
having become slaves of God,
you have your fruit to holiness,
and the end, everlasting life.
For the wages of sin is death,
but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Daniel 12:1-4--
“‘And at that time
shall Michael stand up
the great prince who stands for the children of your people;
and there shall be a time of trouble,
such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time.
And at that time
your people shall be delivered,
every one that shall be found written in the book.
And many of them who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake,
some to everlasting life, and
some to shame and everlasting contempt.
And they who be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament;
and they who turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.
But you, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end:
many shall run to and fro, and
knowledge shall be increased.’”

23
Matthew 19:28-30--
“And Jesus said unto them [His close disciples],
‘Verily I say unto you, that you who have followed Me,
in the regeneration when the Son Of Man shall sit in the throne of His glory,
you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
And every one that has forsaken
houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother,
or wife, or children, or lands
for My name's sake,
shall receive an hundredfold, and
shall inherit everlasting life.
But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.”
John 3:16 & 36--
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whosoever believes in Him
should not perish,
but have everlasting life….
He [or she] who believes on the Son
has everlasting life; and
he [or she] who believes not the Son
shall not see life,
but the wrath of God abides on him [or her].”
John 4:13-14--
“Jesus answered and said unto her,
‘Whosoever drinks of this water shall thirst again.
But whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him [or her]
shall never thirst;
but the water that I shall give him [or her]
shall be in him [or her] a well of water springing up
into everlasting life.’”
John 5:21-24--
“‘For as the Father raises up the dead, and quickens them,
even so the Son quickens whom He will.
For the Father judges no man,
but has committed all judgment unto the Son.
That all men [and women] should honor the Son,
even as they honor the Father.
He [or she] that honors not the Son
honors not the Father which has sent Him.
Verily, verily, I say unto you,
he [or she] who
hears my Word, and
believes on Him Who sent me,
has everlasting life and
shall not come into condemnation, but
is passed from death unto life.’”
John 6:26-29 & 40-51--
“Jesus answered them and said,
‘Verily, verily, I say unto you, you seek Me,
not because you saw the miracles,
but because you did eat of the loaves and were filled.

24
Labor not for the meat which perishes,
but for that meat which endures unto everlasting life,
which the Son Of Man shall give unto you
for Him hath God the Father sealed.’
Then said they unto Him,
‘What shall we do so that we might work the works of God?’
Jesus answered and said unto them,
‘This is the work of God, that you believe on Him Whom He has sent.’….
‘And this is the will of Him that sent Me,
that every one who
sees the Son, and
believes on Him,
may have everlasting life;
and I will raise him [or her] up at the Last Day.’ ….
And they said,
‘Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know?
How is it then that He says, ‘I have come down from Heaven’?’
Jesus therefore answered and said to them,
‘Do not murmur among yourselves.
No one can come to Me
unless the Father Who sent Me draws him [or her];
and I will raise him [or her] up at the Last Day.
It is written in the prophets, ‘And they shall all be taught by God.’
Therefore everyone who has heard and learned from the Father
comes to Me.
Not that anyone has seen the Father, except He Who is from God;
He has seen the Father.
Most assuredly, I say to you, he [or she] who believes in Me has everlasting life.
I am The Bread Of Life.
Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and are dead.
This is the bread which comes down from Heaven,
that one may eat of it and not die.
I am The Living Bread which came down from Heaven.
If anyone eats of this Bread, he [or she] will live forever;
and the bread that I shall give is My flesh,
which I shall give for the life of the world.’”
Galatians 6:7-10--
“Be not deceived;
God is not mocked:
for whatsoever a man [or woman] sows,
that shall he [or she] also reap.
For he [or she] that sows to his [or her] flesh
shall of the flesh reap corruption;
but he [or she] that sows to the Holy Spirit
shall of the Holy Spirit reap life everlasting.
And let us not be weary in well doing
for in due season we shall reap,
if we faint not.
As we have therefore opportunity,
let us do good unto all men [and women],
especially unto them who are of the household of faith.”

1 Timothy 1:15-16--
“This is a faithful saying,
and worthy of all acceptation,
that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.
Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy,
that in me first Jesus Christ might show forth all longsuffering,
for a pattern to them
who should hereafter believe on Him
to life everlasting.”
