ABSTRACT

The use of big book is an act that encourages students to enhance their

understanding to understand the historical events in the subject of history, and also,

it was conducted to improve teachers' pedagogical practices. An action research was

conducted to improve the understanding of students on the topic of Parameswara

adventure from Palembang to Malacca, at the same time, reviewing its effectiveness

in improving the pedagogical practices of teacher. This studies involved 20 students

from the same class of Year 4 Murshid at a school in Kulim, Kedah. Teachers have

been conducting this action research using 4 data collection instruments, namely pre

and post test, questionnaire, observation and reflection on teacher practice evaluation

form. Data analysis showed that students scored marks for a mean of 25% in pre-test

and 80% in the post-test. The result of the survey also showed that students agree

100% that they understand what has been taught by the teacher while using big

books. The findings of the survey also showed that 95% of students agreed that the

story in the book is easy to understand. Observation instruments through structured

checklists showed that 100% of students pay attention during this research being

held. This clearly shows that the use of big book can enhance students' understanding

on the topic of Parameswara adventure from Palembang to Malacca. Not only that,

the practice of reflection instrument teacher evaluation forms show that it can improve

teachers' pedagogical practice through themes suitability rules, the impact on

students and teachers. To further fix this study, teacher suggested that this study be

extended to students in secondary schools and at multimuple school in country to

obtain an accurate and more solid data.
