Lesson idea implementation:

I will introduce the lesson by asking students if they know any American symbols. I will wait for students to
respond then ask them why they think American symbols are important. I will then pull up the PowerPoint on
American symbols for students to view and learn about these symbols. Students will be able to visually see the
different symbols that represent America and hear about these symbols as well with the recording. If students
have any questions about the symbols I will be able to pause the slideshow and answer questions. After the
PowerPoint students will draw their favorite American symbols and write about why they chose that symbol.

This lesson will take approximately 30-40 minutes to complete. Students will be assessed on being able to
identify an American symbol. This can be identified with their drawing. Students will be able to choose from
the American symbols that were presented in the PowerPoint or if they know any other American symbols they
can use those as well. Students will also have access to the computer to look up any other American symbols
they would like to learn about under the supervision of the teacher. Students that need support can view the
PowerPoint on the tablets/iPads and write one sentence on why that symbol is their favorite. The PowerPoint
will already be pulled up on the screen and it will be in presentation mode as well. For advanced learners, they
can choose two American symbols to draw and write about. After students have completed the activity they
will have the opportunity to share their work with the class. Their work will be displayed on the document
camera. I will also provide feedback to these students who present to the class. I will also review the symbols
we went over in class again with students.
