How many consider it a sin not to read the Bible intentionally
and meditatively?
How many consider it a sin not to teach the bible intentionally
to your children?
THE COMMAND TO READ:
Jos 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy
mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that
thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written
therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and
then thou shalt have good success.

WHEN WE SAY READ, NOT JUST LISTEN. LISTENING IS

GOOD BUT PERSONAL READING IS NEEDED

1. Neh. 8:8 shows us, that The people of old who

were not able to read, listened to the reading and
giving of the sense
2. That is different from listening to a gadget today
3. Listening to the word of God being read
automatically is also good but not the same as
reading with your eyes in a book
4. READING should be personal. Reading IT IN A
 CHURCH SETTING has a different purpose and
effect.

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth;

but thou shalt meditate therein day and night,

that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written

therein:

for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous,

and then thou shalt have good success.

This instruction to Joshua is both an appeal to the will

and to the instinct.

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth;

Why did he say MOUTH?

Because Joshua, when he reads, does not only use his
eyes, he uses his mouth.
(children learn to read when mom reads to them)

Another meaning of:

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth;
It should be the content of your speech.
You should will it, command it to your soul

Another meaning is:

It should be the food of your soul

So what God says to Joshua, Peter says to us

As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the

word, that ye may grow thereby

You want your soul to grow in grace? There is no other

way but to drink milk. Drink the word of God.

Desiring the word is a new instinct imparted by God.

IF YOU ARE A TRUE CHRISTIAN, A SAVED PERSON

ONE UNMISTAKEABLE EFFECT GOD PUTS IN YOUR HEART IS

Your Desire to read the word of God

1Pe 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk

of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

You put the word of God in your mouth

Babies always want something stuck in their mouth
All babies desire milk
All babes in Christ by nature, desire the word of God
God put that desire

2. it shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate
therein day and night,

What you desire to do, you delight to do

You dont just desire, and then dont enjoy when you
have it in front of you.

The scriptures you desire to read, will give you delight as

you read it.

Psa 1:2
(2) But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his
law doth he meditate day and night.

YOU ENJOY IT
you want to keep doing it
you find it hard to stop doing it
just like a buffet meal in a 5 star restaurant

that was the feeling of JOB - JOB 23:12

Job 23:12
(12) Neither have I gone back from the commandment
of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth
more than my necessary food.
What you enjoyed to do is memorable to you
It dwells in your mind and in your heart

ANOTHER WAY TO OBEY thou shalt meditate therein day and

night,

IS TO LET IT DWELL IN YOU

Col 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all
wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in
psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace
in your hearts to the Lord.

To dwell is to reminisce
To let your mind linger about it
Like food that you want to stay in your mouth a little
while, to taste it a little more before you swallow.

God wants you to be guided or directed by God.

The prophets were directed by God using different ways

but the permanent way is thru the scriptures.

If you have read it with desire, with delight, with depth,

and it dwells in your heart,
God directs your life

If you eat the word, it becomes part of you

If you eat Christ, Christ becomes part of you

Lindhlar said - You are what you eat

Derived actually from - Pro 23:7 For as he thinketh in his

heart, so is he:

(difference between food and word food becomes

part of your body and some are waste; but all of the
word stays and becomes part of your system, and
none are wasted)

If the word of God dwells abundantly in your heart, then

every move you make is directed by it. It will be like a
director in a film that says, stop, action, go there, dont
go there, step here, better here than there.

Psa_119:105 NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet,

and a light unto my path.

Pro_6:23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law

is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

(11) Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not
sin against thee.

God wants you to be guided by God because God wants

you to prosper.

for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous,

TO PROSPER IN YOUR DEFENCE OF CHRIST AND THE DOCTRINE

OF CHRIST.

that reproacheth me: for I trust in thy word.

TO PROSPER IN YOUR SELF DEFENCE

What happens to a man who desires the word of God?

Who reads it with delight?
Who lets it dwell in his heart after reading it?
Who reads over and over again with depth?
He is directed by God
He is prosperous in his defence

and then thou shalt have good success.

HOW DO YOU KNOW YOU HAVE GOOD SUCCESS AT THE END OF

YOUR LIFE?
