EXPORT CONTROLLED SERVICE BULLETIN [3 Rolls-Royce OIL — NEW CENTER SUMP VENT SYSTEM KIT 1. PLANNING INFORMATION A Efectvity (1). Engines [AE 3007C engines, SiNs CAE330001 thru CAES30240. NOTE: The engine serial numbers above are based on current production records and should be used for planning purposes only (2) Spares 28054407, Housing, Mid Span Bearing. 23064843, Tube Assy, Vent — Center Sump to Service Manifold. 23065523, Tube Assy, Vent - Accessory Gearbox to Service Manifold. B. Reason ‘AE 3007 engines have been removed irom service due to oll pressures that exceed the oil pressure limit. This high oll pressure level is caused by center sump carbon seal wear. The oll pressure regulating valve is referenced to the center sump pressure. As the center sump Carbon seals wear, the oll pressure will increase. This bulletin introduces a new center sump aft vent tube (29071681) and a new center sump forward vent tube (23071682) made from -8 size tubing that connects the center sump vent port on the diffuser to the mid-span bearing housing. Tests of the new center sump vent tubes show a possible reduction of upto 4 psi in ol pressure at maximum power. ln aédition, investigation from returned failures show that the mid-span bearing (bearing) can {all from the mid-span bearing housing (housing) if the retaining ring disengages. This can cause damage to the radial quill shaft, accessory gearbox, andlor bevel gears. This service bulletin also introduces a new mid-span bearing housing cover (cover) (28075372) with a bearing retaining feature. When the new cover (23075372) is installed, the bolt goes through the vent opening ofthe housing and is located below the retaining ring and the bearing, The bolt mechanically prevents the bearing rom falling from the housing tthe retaining ring is not engaged with the housing groove. ©. Description This service bulletin gives you the procedure to remove the current center sump to service manifold vent tube (23064843), attaching clamps, and the old accessory gearbox to service manifold vent tube assembly (23065523), the mid-span bearing housing (23054407), cap the fitings, and install the new center sump aft vent tube (23071681) and the new center sump forward vent tube (23071682), new clamps, and the new mid-span bearing housing (29071801) and the new mid-span bearing cover assembly (23075372). This service bulletin supercedes service bulletin AE S007C-79-025. ‘D. Approval Technical aspects are FAA approved. ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS CAUTION: IN ORDER TO REDUCE THE POTENTIAL FOR MULTIPLE-ENGINE IN-FLIGHT SHUTDOWN, POWER LOSS, OR OTHER ANOMALY DUE TO MAINTENANCE ERROR, ROLLS-ROYCE RECOMMENDS THAT OPERATORS AVOID PERFORMING MAINTENANCE ON MULTIPLE ENGINES INSTALLED ON THE SAME AIRCRAFT AT THE SAME TIME. IF IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO AVOID MAINTENANCE ON MORE THAN ONE ENGINE AT THE SAME TIME, ROLLS-ROYCE RECOMMENDS THAT ADDITIONAL CONTROLS ARE APPLIED IN ORDER TO ENSURE THAT MAINTENANCE TASKS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED AS DEFINED. MAINTENANCE GUIDELINES SHOULD BE REVISED, WHERE POSSIBLE, TO PROMOTE THIS RECOMMENDATION. ‘A. Install the new center sump vent tubes. (1) Ifyou require access thru the front of the engine, do the steps that follow; otherwise, goto step 2.4.(2) (a) Remove the fan spinner (Ref. 72-00-21, EM) (b) Remove the fan blades (Ref. 72-00-21, EM) (©) Remove the nose ring splitter (Ref. 72-00-25, EM). (4) Remove the bypass vanes (Ref. 72-00-25, EM). (2) Remove the accessory gearbox to service manifold vent tube assembly. REF. FIG. 1 (a) Disconnect the two fittings of the accessory gearbox to service manifold vent tube assembly (the manifold vent tube) (10) (23065523) from the RH-outer service ‘manifold and the accessory drive gearbox. Remove the manifold vent tube (10). (3) Remove the access cover for the outer bypass duct, as necessary (Ref. 72-73-10, MM). (4) Remove the RH inner duct (Ref. 72-71-10, MM), (6) Remove the lower inner duct (Ref. 72-71-10, MM), (6) Remove the LH inner duct, as necessary (Ref. 72-71-10, MM), (7) Remove the center sump to service manifold vent tube. REF. FIG. 2 (a) Remove the bolt (60) that attaches the clamp (70) and the center sump to service ‘manifold vent tube (the vent tube) (10) (23084843) to the bracket (80). Remove the ‘clamp (70) (23037873-06) from the vent tube (10). (b) Remove the bolt (40) that attaches the clamp (30) and the vent tube (10) to the bracket (50). Remove the clamp (30) (23037873-06) from the vent tube (10). (c) Disconnect the two fittings of the vent tube (10). (b) Install the cap (10) (2303900408) on the fitting of the RH core external engine services manifold assembly (28060307). (6). Use the torque wrench to torque the two caps (10 and 20) to 22.5-26 ft-b (81-34 Nm) (Ret. 70-00-00, MM). (9) Remove the mid-span bearing housing. (a) Remove the accessory drive gearbox (Ref. 72-63-10, MM). (b) Remove the mid-span roller bearing (Ret. 72-25-35, MM). 1 You can use the slide hammer (local supply) o remove the mid-span bearing housing (100, Fig. 4) from the front frame. (6) Apply the assembly fluid (HF-825) tothe mid-span roller beating (70) (23069576 or 23069586) to keep the rollers against the outer race. (d)_ Install the mid-span roller bearing (70) nto the new mid-span bearing housing (20) (23071801) (©) Install the new retaining ring (80) (AS3217~146) to hold the mid-span roller bearing (60) in position. WABNING: DO NOT GET THE ANTISEIZE COMPOUND ON YOUR SKIN OR BREATHE THE VAPORS. IT IS POISONOUS. IF YOU GET IT ON YOUR ‘SKIN, CLEAN WITH SOAP AND WATER. IF YOU GET IT IN YOUR EYES, FLUSH WITH WATER. GET MEDICAL AID. (Apply the antiseize compound (NSN-165) to the three studs on the front-frame. (9) Apply the assembly fluid (HF-825) to the O-ring (10) (AS3209-135) to retain the ‘O-ring (10) in the mid-span bearing housing (20) (23071801). (h) Install the O-ring (10) on the new mid-span bearing housing assembly (20) (23071801) (Ref. 70-00-00, MM), (Use the assembly fluid (HF-825) to lubricate the O-ring (30) (AS3209-133), (Install the O-ring (30) on the new mid-span bearing housing cover (40) (28078372) (Ref. 70-00-00, MM). (k) Install the new mid-span bearing housing (20) (23071801) into the front-frame assembly at the 6 o'clock position. (Install the three new bushings (50) (23075412) and the three new nuts (60) (6870325-3) that attach the new mid-span bearing cover (40) (23075372), and the mid-span bearing housing (20) (23071801) to the front-frame assembiy. (m) Use the torque wrench to torque the three nuts (60) to 3782 intb (4.2~4.7 Nm) (Ref. 70-00-00, MM). (0). Install the accessory drive gearbox (Ref. 72-63-10, MM). FIG. 5 (a) Put the new center sump aft vent tube (new aft vent tube) (10) (23071681) into position on the diffuser and the compressor case. {b) Connect the fitting of new aft vent tube (10) (23071681) to the diffuser. Tighten the fiting hand tight. (©) Apply the antiseize compound (NSN-165) to the two bolts (30 and 130). (d)_ Install and position the new clamp (140) (28037873-08) on new aft vent tube (10). (@) Install the bolt (130) that attaches the clamp (140) and the new aft vent tube (10) to the bracket (120). (f) Use the torque wrench to torque the bolt (130) to 37-42 in-Ib (4.24.7 Nm) (Ret. 70-00-00, MM). (@) Install and position the new clamp (20) (28037873-08) on new aft vent tube (10). (h) Install the bolt (30) that attaches the clamp (20) and the new aft vent tube (10) to the bracket (40). (Use the torque wrench to torque the bolt (30) to $3742 in-Ib (4.2-4.7 Nm) (Ref. 70-00-00, MM). () Use the torque wrench to torque the fitting of new aft vent tube (10) to 15-25 ft-ib (20-34 Nm) (Ref. 70-00-00, MM). (12) Install the new center sump forward vent tube assembly. REF. FIG. 5 (@) Attach the fitings of the new center sump forward vent tube assembly (the new forward vent tube) (50) (28071682) to the new aft vent tube (10), and to the mid-span bearing cover assembly (23075372). (b) Use the torque wrench to torque the two fittings of new forward vent tube (50) to 36-40 ft-lb (49-54 Nm) (Ref. 70-00-00, MM) (©) Install and position the new clamp (60) (28060016-08) on the new forward vent tube (60). (@)_ Install and position the new clamp (80) (28060015-06) on the pressure oil tube assembly (90) (28060122). (©) Apply the antiseize compound to the two bolts (70). () Install the two boits (70) and the two nuts (100) that attach the two clamps (60 and 80) to the mending plate (110) (MS8552-006). (@)_Use the torque wrench to torque the two nuts (100) to 37-42 in-Ib (4.2-4.7 Nm) (Ref. 70-00-00, MM), (6) Check for 0.100 in (64.51 mm) clearance around the new aft vent tube (10) (23071681) and around the new forward vent tube (50) (23071682). (17) Install the pressure seal cap fitting REF. FIG. 6 (a) Instait the cap (10) (28039004-08) on the fitting of the RH outer service manifold, (b) Use the torque wrench to torque the cap (10 ) to 225-285 tt-Ib (31-34 Nm) (Ret. 70-00-00, MM). (18) if you gained access thru the front of the engine, do the steps that follow; otherwise, go to stop 2.8. (a) Install the bypass vane (Ref. 72-00-25, EM). (b) Install the nose ring spitter (Reef. 72-00-25, EM). (c) Install the fan blades (Ref. 72-00-21, EM). (d)_ Install the fan spinner (Ref. 72-00-21, EM), B. Do the engine leak test (run at maximum take off power for 3 minutes) (Ref. 72-00-00, MM). C. Record compliance with this service bulletin in the applicable section of the engine logbook.
