A Christian marriage is "a permanent covenant and sacrament where Christ is at

center," Siegfriedt said. While a civil wedding pronounces the union of husband and wife
before a LEGAL authority, and often family and friends, a Christian wedding celebrates the
union before God.

Sen. Aquilino Pimentel III expressed doubt that the Philippines will follow the move of the
US Supreme Court that allowed same sex marriage in all of its 50 states. Pimentel said policy-
makers would fear the backlash of the Catholic Church, a big influence over state affairs in the
country. The Catholic Church has a strong influence on our moral sense of right or wrong, which
is in our laws. Our laws have Catholic influence, which will be a big opposition on same-sex
marriage.
Common Argument #3: The purpose of marriage is to procreate, and same-sex couples cant have
children.
Your Response: So should we also prohibit straight couples from getting married if theyre
biologically incapable of having kids?
Marriage is a sacred institution.
The word sacred suggests marriage is a solely religious institution. The Office for National
Statistics shows how civil, non-religious marriage made up 68 per cent of all marriages in the UK
during 2010. Let us not forget matrimony existed long before Jehovah was even a word you
werent allowed to say.

DEBATE START!
To our respectable Mr. Sadorra, to my genius colleagues, worthy opponents, ladies and gentlemen,
good day.
Again, In the proposition we have today in whether to legalize same sex marriage or not in the
Philippines. We purely believe that the Philippine SHOULD legalize same sex marriage.
According to my colleague the Deputy Prime Minister we should legalize same sex marriage
because first Improve psychological, physical, and social well-being amongst LGBT people.
Second, it provides economic and business opportunities and lastly it promotes family stability.
This is Government Whip and I will be discussing about the necessity of why the Philippines
should legalize same sex marriage. The Philippines should legalize same sex marriage because
first;
1. FILIPINOS SIMPLY ACCEPTS HOMOSEXUALS
There's presumably just about the same proportion of the population which is homosexual in
the Philippines as there are anywhere else in the world. The only question is whether the ones who
are there acknowledge it and live freely, or hide and pretend. It's good to know that even the
Catholic church's bigoted misunderstanding of human biology has not prevented gay Filipinos
from living in the way which is healthy for them.
In 2013, A survey titled The Global Divide on Homosexuality conducted by the US-based
Pew Research Center showed that 73 percent of adult Filipinos agreed with the statement that
homosexuality should be accepted by society, up by nine percentage points from 2002. Of the
39 countries covered by a global survey, only 17 countries had majorities that accepted
homosexuality, with the Philippines ranking at number 10 among the 17. Despite its religiosity,
the Philippines is one of the countries in the world where the level of public acceptance of
homosexuals is high, according to the results of the survey. The percentage of Filipinos who said
society should not accept gays fell from 33 percent in 2002 to 26 percent this year, it added.
In the Philippines, 78 percent of those aged 18-29 who were interviewed said gays should be
accepted, 71 percent for those aged 30-49, and 68 percent for those 50 years old and above,
according to the survey. The report also showed that of the eight countries surveyed in the Asia-
Pacific region, the Philippines had the second highest acceptance rate next to Australias 79
percent. In the Asia-Pacific region, where views of homosexuality are mostly negative, more than
seven in 10 in Australia and the Philippines say homosexuality should be accepted by society, the
report said.
Again, The Pew Research Center survey was released on June 4, 2015 and showed 73% of the 804
Filipino respondents are of the opinion that homosexuality should be accepted by society. 26%
felt otherwise, and 1% refused to answer.
According to a U.N.-backed study published last year, Cultural and social attitudes towards
LGBT people (in the Philippines) are complex, with signs of acceptance, particularly among the
young.
Indeed, 78 percent of 18- to 29-year-old Filipinos said that homosexuality should be accepted by
society, compared to 68 percent of those over 50.
IT UNDEANIABLE, GAY COUPLE IS A REALITY NOT JUST IN THE PHILIPPINES BUT
ALL OVER THE WORLD SO WHY NOT LEGALIZE SAME SEX MARRIAGE ESPECIALLY
TO THOSE WHO INDEED NEED IT.
According to Danton Remoto a The Philippine Star Journalist, Gay Filipinos will continue to be
born and raised while equality waits. Gay Filipinos will continue to grow up in a society being
bullied and ridiculed while equality waits. Gay Filipinos will continue to grow old and die, alone
or as a couple deprived of legal protections, while equality waits.
2. THERE WILL BE AN INCREASE AMOUNT OF CHILDREN SUCCESSFULLY
ADOPTED.
We all know gay couples cant do reproduction thus the immediate action for those who want
to have kids is to adopt, however most adoption agencies discriminate against gay couples and
make it incredibly difficult for them to adopt children. Many agencies will only release children
to "married" couples, therefore rejecting stable, loving, homo sexual parents. By legalizing gay
marriage, adoption agencies will be forced to grant the same respect and right to homosexual
couples. Gay marriage will increase the chances for thousands of foster children to gain loving
parents and families.
Did you know that in the United States alone, approximately 100,000 children wait hopefully
for the day when they would be adopted? If children are indeed our future, should we not look for
loving and supportive parents for each child left waiting for adoption? Legalizing same sex
marriage would facilitate the adoption of these LGBT couples, allowing for stable homes for kids
who therefore had none.
Those who oppose LGBT and same sex marriage would argue that gay parents will result in
difficulties for the child, but this has proven to be untrue. Zero data supports this assertion, and
studies from around the world have all supported the opposite conclusion. Heres what a 2013
Australian study comparing gay and straight families concluded: On measures of general health
and family cohesion, children aged 5-17 years with same-sex attracted parents showed a
significantly better score when compared to Australian children from all backgrounds and family
contexts. For all other health measures, there were no statistically significant differences.
Heres an American study from the same year that focused on adopted children: An estimated
16,000 same-sex couples are raising more than 22,000 adopted children in the U.S., and these
findings indicate that these children will likely fare no differently, as a result of their family type,
than those being raised by heterosexual parents.
In short, there are no evidences to support the claim that children with same-sex parents are
worse or I think since his parents are same sex that they probably are worse off doesnt count as
evidence.
Pediatrics released a study in 2010 that the adopted children of lesbian mothers were more
socially and academically competent than children of heterosexual couples. A similar study
published in July of the same year showed that children with gay fathers were as well-adjusted as
their counterparts. In fact, these children often tend to be more understanding and less judgmental
of their peers, leading to a positive, harmonious outlook. Quite often the children left in foster care
and in state homes long for the love and presence of good parents. Gay couples long to shower
their love and leave a legacy in the form of kids.
IMAGINE THE REACTION OF THOSE KIDS LONGING FOR LOVE AND CARE IF
THEY HAVE BEEN ADOPTED. THE RATE OF THOSE ORPHANS WHO WANT LOVE BY
THEIR FAMILIES WILL INCREASE HENCE THE NUMBER OF CHILDREN SEEKING FOR
A STABLE FAMILY WILL DECREASE.
3. THE INCREASE IN RATE OF SAME SEX COUPLEs WHO GO TO OTHER
COUNTRIES, WHERE SAME SEX MARRIAGE IS LEGAL, JUST TO GET
MARRIED
Same sex couples in the Philippines have been deprived to be legally married before the state.
Those couples who want their love to be recognized not just by the state but by the society as well
will have to go to other countries where in, in those countries same sex marriage are allowed. This
marriage will cost a lot for a normal couple especially if you belong to a country which ranked 14
in Poorest Countries in Asia by GDP per capita thats according to Asian Ranking, now what if
same sex marriage is legalized in the Philippines those couple wouldnt have to save and spend a
lot of money just to get married because in their residential country, same sex marriage is before
them.
Last year, in a research conducted by NSCB there has been an increase 28% compared to the
last two years, in which same sex couples chose to go to other countries just to get married.
The money they have to spend just for the transportation will have to cost twice their monthly
salary. But remember that its for the transportation only, they still have to pay for temporary cost
of living and marriage-related fees. Those countries they have to choose from, are countries that
almost all are labeled as 1st and 2nd world countries. There are Netherlands, Belgium, Canada,
Spain, South Africa, Norway, Sweden, Argentina, Portugal, Iceland, Denmark, Brazil, England
and Wales, France, New Zealand, Uruguay, Luxembourg, Scotland, Finland, Ireland and United
States. An example we have is the recent wedding of same sex couple, the celebrities Aiza Seguerra
and Liza Dio.
Atty. Falcis, an astute student of history said that: Without marriage, gay couples are relegated
to 2nd class citizen status. Without marriage, gay couples are dehumanized and stripped off their
dignity. Without marriage, gay couples are left to die without peace of mind. Inequality? Not in
my lifetime.

CONLUSION:
For the last time as the Government whip, this house strongly affirms of the legalization of
same sex marriage in the Philippines because first Filipinos simply accepts homosexuals, second,
there will be an increase amount of children successfully adopted and lastly the increase in rate of
same sex couples who go to other countries, where same sex marriage is legal, just to get married.
