Name of the lesson- Two Gentlemen of Verona
Author- A.J.Cronin
Key concepts
The story recounts the hard life chosen by two young boys as observed by the author.
the author learns that the hard life was a conscious choice made by the two boys to
collect and save money for the for the treatment of their sister.
The two boys work very hard and do every possible job like distributing newspaper,
polishing shoes, as guides selling fruits and running errands.
They eat less and wear old clothes to save the money to pay the expenses of the hospital.
Thus the boys sacrifice sincerity and devotion to the cause and the maturity they display
in their actions gives a new hope for humanity.

Key concepts.
The poem is a story of a cunning frog and a gullible nightingale.
The wicked frog tried and exhausted an innocent but stupid nightingale to death.
The cunning and crafty frog exploited her magical voice only to collect money.
The simple and unsuspecting nightingale allowed the frog to misguide and ruin her career
and life.

Name of the lesson- Mrs Packletides Tiger


Author- Saki
Key concepts
Mrs. Packletides tiger is a satire describing hunting of a tiger for prestige.
Mrs. Loona bimberton killed a tiger and was praised and got a great fame.
Mrs. Packletide, jealous of her, wanted to do the same to get the fame.
A lot of money was spent and the whole village was involved in the hunt.
Miss Mebbin, a paid companion, sat with her on the platform constructed for the hunt.
A goat with a particular persistent bleat was tied to a tree as bait.
The tiger was spotted and Mrs. Packletide shot it.
The humour was that the goat died because of the shot and the tiger died because of the
noise which led to his heart failure.
Packletide got her share of name and fame but Miss Mebbin blackmailed her and
purchased a cottage and christened it LES FAUVES (wild animals) and in the garden
planted Tiger lilies.
Learning outcome

Identify the purpose behind Mrs. Packletide hunting the tiger.
Explain how jealousy led to killing of harmless animals.
Generalize that most of the hunting of animals takes place for wrong reasons.

Key concepts
Sylvia Plath personifies the mirror in the poem Mirror.
The mirror reflects what it sees.
It has no preconceptions.
It is not cruel but truthful.
It doesnt hide or conceal anything.
It is not a lair like the candles or the moon.
It is not misted by love or dislike.
The woman who stands before it sees what actually she is.
In it she has drowned a young girl.
And in it she rises as a woman growing older every day.

Literature : Name of the lesson- The Letter

Key concepts
The letter is the story of an old father who passes through the agony and pangs of
separation of his married daughter.
Ali got no news of his daughter Miriam who was married to a soldier in punjab for five
years.
The post office became his place of pilrimage.
Even though he never received any letter from Miriam, he would be the first to reach
there.
But with boundless faith and patience, he went to the post office everyday, and returned
home empty-handed.
The long expected letter from Miriam did come but it came too late.
Finally, the letter was laid on Alis grave.
