Studio 1 Clarifying the Design Problem and Generating Concepts Week 9

Instructions
Write the names of the team members present in the space below. Answer the studio questions directly on this worksheet. Add more rows if
needed. When done, have one person from your team submit this document by attaching it to the assignment submission in Connect.

Design Problem (which challenging task did you pick): Eye Glass Holder

Key Stakeholders and Their Needs

Who are you stakeholders? Rank from most to least influential.

The client-Ken Fraser, the therapist- Emma Smith, Other potential users of the product, The 3D printing company, The designing team-the engineers,

Identify the needs of your main stakeholder. What does your stakeholder need to do with the adaptive device? What are the main functions that
your adaptive device needs to do? Rank from most to least influential need.
What does your device need to do? Why does it need to do this?
Be comfortable to our user In all likelihood, Ken will be using this product quite often therefore the
device must be comfortable in his hand.
Increase functionality of his hand We must make a product that can increase function in Kens hands
because were trying to make his life easier in some way.
Be durable Ken must have a product that wont break because he needs something
thatll last him a long time.
Be light and compact The product should be easy to store when not in use, and should be easy
to put on and take off.
Generating Concepts: Name Your Sketch
Name each one of your sketches both on the sketch and also here. Explain in 3-6 words the main working idea behind each sketch. You can be
creative and expressive with your sketch name. Take a picture of your sketch and make sure you sketch name is visible also on the picture of the
sketch you will submit.

Sketch Name What is the main idea behind this concept?

Eye-Plier A hook will attach to his pinky, and the tail end of the product will be like pliers that
contract and expand according to the front part of the glasses.
Hinge Holder A tool attached to his hand meant to grasp the temples of his glasses specifically. Pliers at
the end of the tool are thin and controlled by his wrist.
Glass holder A strap to attach the tool in his hand which has an open cylindrical end which attaches to a
permanent clip In the glass frame.
The Spectacle Stand A holder that is adapted to fit with the glass. The holder is attached to a band which is put
is fixed to the hand.
Hook Eye A structure that fits to your hand, and the structure has an extension consisting of a hook
that the user guides to the center of the glasses (in between the lenses) to remove/put on
glasses.

Generating Concepts: Physical Model

Name your physical model, explain the main concept and also try to do your challenge task with it. What is your first impression of the design after
you try to simulate the design problem you are trying to address? These trials are not meant to give decisive results but they could help you
improve your design. Take a picture of your models and make sure you also have the name of the physical prototype visible on the picture of your
physical model. (Note: If the model name matches a sketch name, you only need to enter the same information once.)

Hinge Holder A hook on either side of the tool meant Good for taking glasses off, and initially picking up the glasses
