Discussion

In this experiment we need to determine the peak hour factor and traffic volume measurement at a
specific site. Then , we can determined the capacity analysis. The location that we choose for this
experiment is at road near the Sekolah Agama Al-Azhar. We choose this location because the road
has T- junction or 3 way junction and this road is a main road connect to the highway Pasir Gudang
and UITM Pasir Gudang . So there are often movement of vehicle use this road and we can get the
accurate value or amount of the vehicle used this road. We measured the vehicle movement for 1
hour by 15 minutes interval for four time and count the number of vehicle include car, motorcycle,
small van and utility car, bus and big and small lorries that passing the 6 points labelled V2 and V5
which is moving through ,V3 and V9 going left turn, and lastly V4 and V7 going right turn by using the
manual method which is effective and suitable for short count duration.

Based on our data, we has produce six pie chart which indicates the traffic composition for V2 until
V9. From all of the chart , we can discuss that the most vehicle is dominated by private cars and
taxis with a value 72%(V2), 74%(V3),72%(V4),63%(V5),84%(V7) and 75%(V9). Besides that, the
lowest percentage is bus which is 0% at V2,V3,V4 and V5 but V7 and V9 is 2% and 1%. Next , the
lorries is commonly see at pie chart V2,V4,V5 and V9 but for V3 and V7 have the lowest percentage
for the lorries . Moreover, the second frequently user road after the private car is motorcycle as it
was the second on every moment at each pie chart except pie chart V5.

Based on the information, the highest value of the passenger car unit (pcu/hr) is at V2 but the lowest
is at V3 and V7 where they share the same value. Then , the traffic movement trend for through (T)
the movement at V2 is lower than at V5 while for traffic movement (LT)left turn ,V3 dominated at
first 45 minute while for 60 minutes, it went drop drastically. Lastly, for right turn (RT) V4 has higher
movement than at V7.

During this experiment, we have found some error or problem that may influence our obtained data.
Firstly, the lack of skill using of handling apparatus can affect the data. For example, wrongly pressed
the wrong classification of vehicle. Then, when the heavy traffic moment occurred we may
overlooked some vehicle that can disruptive our data. Moreover, some car suddenly changes their
direction when reach near the junction.

The safety precaution while handling this experiment is we must wear the safety jacket to realizing
the driver our presence. Then, we must make sure the stopwatch was set the time taken tally with
the other group so that will be the same time taken for each group. Next, we cannot stand or getting
near the road side because the driver may not noticed the student and can causes the accident.
Conclusion

In this experiment, we have conducted at the intersection near to Seri Mutiara and Sekolah
agama al Azhar. We choose this location because the road has 3 way junction and this road is a
main road connect to the highway Pasir Gudang . So there are often movement of vehicle use this
road from residential to go out to highway and we can get the accurate value or amount of the
vehicle used this road. For objective of this experiment, we need to determine the peak hour factor
of the vehicle at the six movement pattern intersection. Then, we need to determine and analyse
traffic volume during peak hour. Lastly, we need to measure the capacity analysis.

For the first objective, we need to determine the peak hour factor of the vehicle at the six
movement which mean it is v2,v3,v4,v5,v7,v9,. For v2 we get the peak hour factor 0.848, for v3 we
get 0.750. for v4 0.958, for v5 we get 0.872, for v7 0.615 and for the v9 0.912.

For the second objective, we need determine and analyse traffic volume during peak hour.
First we convert the value of vehicle to Pcu per hour refer to the urban area. So that, the total
number of vehicle for v2 is 319 and convert to pcu per hour 379. the total number of vehicle for v3 is
72 and convert to pcu per hour 73.25. the total number of vehicle for v4 is 276 and convert to pcu
per hour 310.5. the total number of vehicle for v5 is 279 and convert to pcu per hour 365.25. the
total number of vehicle for v7 is 64 and convert to pcu per hour 73.25 and the total number of
vehicle for v9 is 310 and convert to pcu per hour 346.75. From the traffic composition, we can
analyse by using the pie chart to know the percentage of vehicle at v2 until the v9. Then, flow of
traffic we can refer the line chart for v2 until v9. For the traffic movement through it is v2 and v5
that showing v2 decrease and v5 increase per hour. For traffic movement left turn is v3 and v9 that
showing decrease in one hour. For the traffic movement right turn is v4 and v7 that v4 is decrease
and v7 increase in one hour

Lastly, we need to measure the traffic capacity analysis. LOS criteria for v9 for is A that
mean the road is little or no delay. For v4 the LOS is B that is short traffic delays and for v7 the LOS is
E that the road very long traffic delays
