Crosshead is running in a reciprocating linear movement between upper and lower guide and

must have an upper clearance between 0.015 to 0.025inch

All mud pumps are oil lubricated and There are three types of lubrication

1- Gravity (where oil is circulated by means of splashing of the main pull gear to an oil traps that
distribute oil to all pump components).this is a poor method in case of low Stroke per minute SPM

2-internal lube oil pump (a small pump is coupled directly with the main gear inside the mud pump
sunk and pumps oil from the pump sunk to a manifold which supplies all bearings and crossheads
with oil) (most pumps in ECDC).
