Harlem Hellfighters

The Harlem Hellfighters were a group of African Americans troops who were fighting during
World War 1. The hellfighters were through many setbacks as well as comebacks during their
time in war and even when it ended. They were treated with such disrespect and even their
loved ones were treated with such disrespect as well. The harlem hellfighters deserved the
respect of everybody with them spending the most amount of time in combat than any other
American Unit spending a total of 191 days in Europe under enemy fire. That didnt stop the
hellfighters from trying to be as valuable as possible even though due to their skin color were
not viewed as valuable. Lt. Europe became the first black officer in the American army to lead
troops in battle. Even in battle their weapons segregated with them having very small fire arms
and limited combat training however that didnt stop them from making good with what they had
and even turning some bad weapons into great weapons. During battle the hellfighters adapted
to fighting with new tricks that they picked up from the french which helped them out in battle a
lot. The end time of battle had the hellfighters make french friends like Ruby Garnett and who
taught it to George Cuffee a very young soldier who was part of the hellfighters. The hellfighters
were the first full regiment to return to the U.S. so they were first honored with a parade.
However this was the only parade that they could participate in as there was a Victory Parade a
few months later for the entire military ,but the hellfighters werent permitted to join this parade.
This being said the hellfighters earned enough respect especially as an African American group
at that time to break through in history and still be talked about to this day.
