EQ: How do mental cognition, muscle memory, and dexterity affect ones precision when s/he
is required to use fine motor skills to complete a task?

I. Essential Question:

In your response, you need to include the following:

Explain what mental cognition is and how ones precision can be directly affected if one is
mentally impaired.

Explain what muscle memory is and how it may affect ones precision in completing a task.

Explain how dexterity may affect ones precision in completing a task.

Original:

Mental cognition, muscle memory, and dexterity affect ones precision when
required to use fine motor skills to complete a task. Mental cognition is a form of you
recognizing and understanding yourself doing something, using the nervous system.
Ones precision, if mentally impaired, can be affected directly because they dont have as
much thought and understanding in what they are doing, which will lead to not being as
precise in activities using mental cognition. Muscle memory is an exercise of your
muscles remember doing a common motion or activity. Muscle memory can affect
someones precision if they have not done the exercise, and their muscles are not used
to the activity. If your muscles do recognize the exercise, you will be more precise.
Dexterity is exercising skills, especially in the hands. There are many variables that can
prevent yourself from having a low and high dexterity, including an injury or long nails.

II. Lab Application:

1a. Identify which task you demonstrated the most precision in when completing using your
dominant hand and support your response using data and video evidence.
I demonstrated the most precision in drawing shapes. I used the same method in drawing
my shapes, except the second time I tried to retrace cleaner. I scored the highest in my
groups drawing 13, then 16.

2a. Identify which task you demonstrated the least precision in when completing using your
dominant hand and support your response using data and video evidence.
I showed the least amount of precision in the 6-Pyramid cup stacking activity. I used
different methods each time I stacked and cleaned up my pyramid. I also scored the
lowest in my group.
