RECTORS REFLECTIONS

I
ts always exciting when we start something new; and there
have been a lot of starting new things in my life over the
past few years. These include moving to a new country; a
new marriage to Mtr. Laurie; learning a new way of driving on INSIDE
the wrong side of the road; and now a new church family to

get to know and serve. So, yes, Im excited about being installed
as the fortieth rector of Christ Church. But, along with Press Release &
excitement, questions come to mind, such as, will I fit in?, am Announcements 2

I up for the job? and hows this going to work? However, I Parish Schedule 3
neednt have been concerned about how will I fit in? as the
generosity of your welcome has made me feel very much at Calendar 4-5

home. I also trust that as God has called me to this job so he has Events 6
equipped me for the task; and that with His help and strength
we will get through both the good and the not so good times in
church life.
During the season of Advent we are reminded that Mary also faced something new. Im sure
she was excited about the birth of her first child; about becoming a mother and starting a family.
But, Im also sure she had similar questions in her mind, will he fit in?, am I up for the job? and
hows this all going to work? We read that Mary pondered these things in her heart, but
ultimately she trusted God that he had equipped her for the task, and trusted Him to help her
through both the good and the bad times that were ahead. Mary sets a wonderful example to
all of us who are starting something new, that with trust in God, we can accomplish the work He
has called us to do.

PRESS RELEASE: DUANESBURG CHURCH WELCOMES NEW RECTOR
F
ather Alistair J. Morrison was instituted as
the 40th Rector of historic Christ Episcopal
Church, Duanesburg, by the Right
Reverend William Love, Bishop of the Albany
Episcopal Diocese, at a special service held on
Sunday, December 3, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. at the
church. Until February 2016, when he emigrated
to the United States, Fr. Alistair was a priest
assigned as a Curate Assistant in Ballyholme
Parish in Bangor, Northern Ireland. In April 2016,
he and Mother Laurie Garramone were married
at St. Johns Episcopal Church in Johnstown, NY
where she is currently the Rector. Prior to his
ordination as priest Alistair worked for many
years as an architect, focusing on architectural
conservation. Fr. Alistair also has an interest in
mens ministry and in 2012, his MTh dissertation,

Model for Engaging Men with God and
Church? was published by the Church of
Ireland. Fr. Alistair had already begun his duties
at the historic church in Duanesburg which was
built in 1793 by the towns founder, James
Duane. The building is one of the oldest
unaltered Episcopal churches in New York State
which has remained in continual use since its
construction. Fr. Alistair has also arrived in time
for the 225th anniversary of Christ Church which
will be celebrated throughout 2018 with special
events and services. The new Rector is looking
forward to his new assignment, indicating that
his first objective is to become acquainted with
not only the parishioners of Christ Church, but
also the long history of the church and the
entire Duanesburg community as well.

CAROLS & LESSONS
SUNDAY, DECEMBER 17TH
As we have done in previous years
we will celebrate a program of
Carols and Lessons at Christ
Church on Sunday, December 17th
at 7 PM. All are invited to attend
this evening of celebration of the
season with favorite Christmas
carols and scripture readings.
Please read the Sunday bulletin to
hear more about the program and
we will announce more details
there and on Facebook.
GREENING OF THE CHUCH
SUNDAY, DECEMBER 17TH
The greening of the church is
scheduled for December 18th
immediately after Sundays service.
Please join in helping to prepare
and decorate the church for the
Christmas season. Many hands
make light work!
