OUTCOME AT YEAR END: REFLECTIONS AND IMPLICATIONS

Professional Goal #1

Reflecting on this goal I believe I was successful in incorporating multiple mediums in order to
maximize student engagement. This variety of mediums included videos, textbooks, primary
resources, and online news articles. One example specifically in which I incorporated this goal
into my classroom was through the Spot and Respond activity feature in Related Issue 1. This
activity required students to evaluate 2 different articles written about the same event, and
answer various questions based on how the author attempted to portray this event. This not only
helped teach students about the key concepts of those articles, but it was also an opportunity
to discuss confirmation bias and the necessity of critical thinking abilities in todays digital world.

Professional Goal #2

Being involved in extra-curricular activities has given me an excellent opportunity to interact with
students who I otherwise wouldnt get to in my day to day plans. More specifically, coaching the
8/9 B Boys Volleyball team was a great way to coach students and see them experience
success in the gym that they may not have in the classroom. Likewise, being able to improve my
coaching practice by working with experienced coaches was a very valuable experience that
has helped me grow professionally and personally.

Professional Goal #3

Working with my colleague to create an engaging inquiry project regarding an area of

education of Im passionate about was a highly beneficial learning opportunity. I believe that
this project has taught me a lot about the necessity of closing activities, and formative
assessment as a whole, in order to benefit student learning. In the future, I hope to take an
active role in including meaningful closing activities in my daily lesson plans because this project
has shown me the power and benefits that they can have in classrooms across multiple
disciplines.
