CUSTOM IN MALAY WEDDING

Majority as Malay people, want a perfect of Malay wedding their daughter. This is because it is
a part of do a bride proud. Beside that, to celebrate their bridal to join with new family. Usually,
their parents want to follow all the custom in Malay wedding. There are three types custom of
Malay wedding which are merisik, engagement and marriage contract.

The first custom in Malay wedding is merisik. Merisik (to spy) are to find and to observe an
appropriate (female partner). Early stages of male and female arranged. Majority of muslims,
will doing merisik because this is a certain custom in Malay. For example, if those spouses have
another man, we should choice the best future wife. After that, is the process to seen and
approval of parents. The bridegrooms make sure that she does not have another man. Than the
purpose to investigate background of spouse, such as about household, good manners, behavior,
appearance and religious knowledge like the woman does not have another man. Future wife
must have the characteristics like prophet Muhammad s.a.w.

From abi Hurayrah r.a. really prophet Muhammad s.a.w. said choose woman from four things:
their property, their beauty, their descent and their religion.

This hadis explains about when to marry, prophet Muhammad said, choose future wife must
choose the four points. It is a their property, their beauty, their descent and their religion.
Beside that, it is usually done by relative of the man is have religious background. For instance,
we cant become a future wife or future husband if they do not know how to become a good
wife. Future husband will give ring question, rattan sides of the from ring. Usually, male partner

The second of the custom in Malay wedding is engagement. Engagement is period to give
answer. The women are replying by sending a delegation to man for give an answer. The
majority of female partner, give a take much time until marriage. Than, talk about the condition
in respect of dowry and wedding expenses wedding. The family will discuss to select the date of
marriage. For example are parents from the both of family will discuss the suitable date to get
married. In addition, the expenses wedding will decide from female parents. For instance, is the
females parent want RM8000, 00 as expenses wedding, the male partner must accepted. The
ring is sign for women to be fiance. Its also is a part of custom to get engaged. It is sign where
another man cannot disturb her. Engagement ring also as a device league of engaged.

The third of custom in Malay wedding is marriage. Marriage is a lawful relationship between
the two soul of a man and a woman. The purpose of marriage man a woman is called husband
and wife. Marriage contract is a process or wedding ceremony in Islam. The groom sign the
marriage contract and agree to provide the bride with mas kahwin (dowry) like the imam will
shake the bride have to confirm them as legal couples as a husband and wife. The imam will
choose a representative to become a witness the bride. Furthermore, the dyeing ceremony usually
held on stages. The stages is dyeing is held two night before the day directly in the nearest
relative only. After that, small dyeing is held one evening before the day directly or after
cohabitation for special guest from the male and the female side. In the event, the bride shall be
cloth. The wedding dress worn the bride and brought sat or the bed is located in the living room
like after the custom of dyeing is done. The groom will not be staying at the home of the bride,
but will return home or if a group is coming from far away, groom will spend the night at a
house near the home of the friend that usually consists of woman. In addition, the both bride and
groom would sit in from of all wedding guests. Before the wedding ceremony is held, the dais in
front will be completed first. The bride seat on the dais in front of guest and same situation the
people who are the king and queen. There are various customs of marriage in every state. For
instance, in Johor: toll Johor Malay wedding custom. The groom is required to pay a sum of
